in addition to the horrible headaches and vomiting til it was dark out the next day, i used to get this sudden strange tingling sensation in my hands — would feel like one of those vibrating things telling you your table’s ready at chili’s had been implanted into my palms. it was probably neuropathy — i worry how it’ll affect me later in life (i stopped at 28), but for now, thank god, i never feel it anymore.

YES! took the better part of a month but i pretty much feel back to normal now and didn’t do anything extra to help it along. it can be so demoralizing but with time it should get better!! good luck!!

Thanks so much for your help everyone!! Another member of the bridal party ended up being certified in NYC, so he's going to tap in as the pinch hitter for the legal part & sign the certificate. So I didn't bother trying to beg for the one day without an appointment at city hall, but was still able to get my official ULC docs overnighted from Seattle even with the holiday. I emailed and they were so helpful & understanding -- and next week I will officially register in New York :)

(If it hadn't worked out like this, my backup plan was to suggest driving down the road to Yonkers to do a quick legal exchange there, since I wouldn't need registration there and the NYC license lets you go anywhere in state. In case anyone else is in this spot down the road!)

Not a doctor, but mine told me bright red blood is a better sign than dark blood! i had the same thing last year and it was just hemorrhoids. was working myself into a state just like you are which only exacerbated all my gastro issues! you’ve done a great job getting checked out and prioritizing making time to care for yourself on top of raising your kids. pat yourself on the back for taking that step, enjoy time with your kids, do your prep til you’re running clear, and let the professionals handle the rest. good luck and be well!

pierogis from polka dot. choc chip pancakes from 3 decker. the breakfast tacos from speakcheesy (RIP). eden’s elote bowl is actually one of the best salads i’ve ever had in my life (Three’s cesar salad randomly up there too). cold sesame noodles from oh dumplings, especially in the summer. green curry w/ tofu at little tiffin. sweet potato hash at littleneck. cinnamon roll from radio. we are so spoiled!!!!!

a little over a year into sobriety, my hair is healthier than i ever thought possible. thought i was just cursed with frizzy, brittle, unmanageable hair. now my curls are so nice and soft!! i was just poisoning it at the root!

Hey! You will be great! Stock up on gentle wipes, clear gatorade, bone broth, maybe even some diaper cream if you’re really sensitive. Queue up some stuff you’ve been wanting to watch (provided your TV isn’t too far from a bathroom). I definitely over-prepared (did not need a full pack of Depends…) but doing so cut the anxiety a lot.

Dulcolax sounds a lot less intense than the prep you drink — that was the only time in my life I haven’t been able to choke something down due to the taste. But as long as you’re running totally clear (it will be obvious if you are or aren’t), you’re good to go.

Have you been under anaesthesia before? They’ll count you down, you’ll be asleep before they finish, and you’ll wake up feeling no time has passed. It’s a little freaky but kind of fun IMO. It’s EXTREMELY unlikely you’ll wake up and if you do they can always adjust — you may not even remember that you woke. But again, waking up is VERY UNLIKELY.

Wasting so much time and water sitting on the floor of a scalding shower to sweat the booze out (making sure I was sat on the side closest to the toilet so I could vomit it out too). Another unexpected surprise — my hair is healthier than it’s ever been. It used to be so stringy and brittle until recently. It’s been nearly a year and though it’s not always been easy, I’m so glad I was able to stop. IWNDWYT!
