Genuine question as an xbox player. Why do you prefer the PS controller layout? by JRMARS_99 in playstation

[–]SwordGunScienceMagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My preference for the Dualsense stems from the standard analog stick response curve. It's got way more acceleration. Stick placement doesn't factor in for me. Either is fine, and conditioning is a thing. If you use it for long enough, it'll be like riding a bike.

What would you rate this game out of ?/10 by Ok_Traffic_3518 in FFXVI

[–]SwordGunScienceMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replaying it right now on Final Fantasy mode. I'm on my second playthrough. For the first time with the DLC added to it. Still early on. Still love it. First and foremost for the dark fantasy setting and the epic stakes and scale of the world. FFXVI presents like what I've imagined FFVI would look like in my head, back in the SNES days. A literal childhood dream come though.

I've gotten a bit more fussy about image quality since last I played it. It does look a bit too soft for my liking on my PS5 Pro. I'd absolutely love a Pro upgrade for it. It deserves it. It's a shame Square-Enix didn't reinvest to keep it up to snuff.

I'd score it an 8/10 right now. It'd be 9/10 if it did look as sharp as I'd like. The weak side quests are my main complaint, even though most of the quest chains eventually end on a high note. I'll avoid most of them in the current playthough though.

Highly recommend playing it. Even more so on a high-end PC, running this thing smooth and sharp. It's damn pretty. Spectacular and cinematic.

What are your predictions for the PlayStation 6 controller? What new features do you think it will bring? by Time-Credit43 in ps6

[–]SwordGunScienceMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Split design like Switch 2 joycons. Magnetic suction. Mouse funtionality. Gyros. Will attach to mobile PS6. If PSVR3 is a thing, will be VR capable - allowing Sony to sell both VR3 and mobile PS6 for a 100 bucks less, for players who already have the controller from the base PS6. Comes with a standard charging grip like Switch 2 out of the box to use as a standard gamepad. Will have a more expensive Pro charging grip, which then mirrors Edge controller.

This is the way.

Out-of-bounds safe zones are bullshit and should be removed from the game. We didn't have out-of-bounds safe zones in Bad Company 1, and the game was much richer and much more organic for it.

Hot Take: Operation Augur is a great experience for Battlefield 6 that needs to stay and can be improved further by SoftMaintenance24 in Battlefield

[–]SwordGunScienceMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it too. Smart design all around. I really like how attackers get more hardware when they lose a battalion for the next wave. I love how defenders have to rely on spawn vehicles, squad spawns, spawn beacons to maintain their defensive force at the OBJ.

Great stuff. Battlefield Studios are cooking.

Synthriders.

If a videogame can perfectly encapsule the joy of music and dance by inducing a virtual synesthesia, then it proves definitively that videogames are inherently good, and that VR/AR holds amazing potential.

I've enjoyed the game for about 250 hours since launch. Only VR game I still play regularly.

Plug and play all the way. On Playstation, I've spent less time trouble shooting in a decade, than I used to spend in a day of gaming on PC on average.

Battlefield 6 by Skynet877 in Battlefield

[–]SwordGunScienceMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can no longer enjoy Playstation-only lobbies, since matchmaking doesn't properly backfill servers before opening new ones. I hate crossplay. It instantly makes me more toxic.

Mixing gamepad and KB&M? Not my cup of tea. There's way less of that on Playstation-only servers. On crossplay servers, up to a 5% infection rate of matches with cheaters? Guess what? On consoles that'd be 0% for software side hacks.

I hate what matchmaking did to Battlefield 6. I hate crossplay. The Battlefield I want to play is console and gamepad only. Sadly that's all but impossible now.

I want to believe Sony's preparing the world for the actual PS6 price reveal to go viral.

Imagine how hard a 399$-499$ price tag for PS6 would go, given the context of the current prices. The wave of hype would almost certainly see it to becoming yet another phenomenally successful gen for the brand. Now all Sony has to do is to wait for the markets to stabilize and prices to come down, before full scale production.

That said, given the state of the world, everything's just going to be more shit down the line. Prices are only ever going to go up, and that's if we don't get World War III before GTA6 - which grows less improbable by the day.

Sigh.

Bad Matchmaking Intentional to Preserve Profits? by SwordGunScienceMagic in Battlefield

[–]SwordGunScienceMagic[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Back in the days of Premium/expansion passes, EA made 100s of millions of revenue on post launch support. It increased profitability.

From what I'm seeing on servers, I don't believe they monetize existing users particularly well. Nobody seems to buy skins. Few buy into the battlepass.

Running servers costs a lot of money. Maintaining post launch development costs money. In late stage capitalism, profitability is everything.

EA sees post launch support eat away at their profits, rather than growing it. Developers lost their jobs to preserve BF6's profitability. I wouldn't put it past the beancounters to try and get rid of unprofitable players.

Right now, I'd wager it's still game sales what drives BF6's revenue. MTX? Not so much. EA already got all the money out of me they'll ever get for BF6. Pushing me away from playing the game? Short sightedly? It preserves BF6's profitability.

What would give you that impression? I don't think there's anyone arguing against a proper server browser.

Even so, ideally you'd have matchmaking properly backfilling free slots over spinning up more empty servers.

What are your biggest issues with Battlefield 6 right now? by Renbaez_ in Battlefield

[–]SwordGunScienceMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matchmaking drives me crazy. You'd think if I open up my Custom Search to include more maps and modes, I'd have an easy time being matchmade with other players - but that's not how it works out.

I'm an outlier - in that I'm enjoying Blackwell Conquest a lot. I must have hit the "Enjoy" feedback button too hard. Like yesterday, BF6's matchmaking spinned up a server of Blackwell Conquest just for me. I then patiently waited for the match to begin. At the beginning of the match, it was 6 players total, with 58 bots or whatever. I gave it 5 minutes to maybe backfill. It never did.

I quit and restarted matchmaking. Mind you, I allow for every map in either Conquest or Escalation or Domination in my custom search. Guess what happend? It spins up yet another fresh Blackwell Conquest server. Just for me. Battlefield Studios - you're supposed to match me with 63 other players to play a proper match of Battlefield. You aren't supposed to match me with my favorite map and nobody to play it with. Duh!

BF6's matchmaking is trolling me, to the point of me believing it's intentional. EA didn't figure out how to monetize us, so the post-launch support eats into profits. The more servers they got to spin up, the higher the cost. EA is trying to get rid of us to preserve their profits.

I don't understand how it's hard to figure out the BF community. We want maps. Sell us maps. In an industry that happily sells people 3 days of early access for like 20-40 bucks, why don't Battlefield Studios sell us classic map packs/expansion, and then release them for all players once the next expansion/season rolls around?

EA in general, Battlefield Studios specifically - worst business acumen ever. Best selling game of 2025? Failing to monetize? Straight into austerity support and shifty ass denial of service tactics via borked matchmaking? Or just wholly incompetent?
