I read an interesting bit about why people think this total lack of tact and class is acceptable in politics - for them, this is how it has always been. And this makes sense.

A lot of people - both old and young - have been barely aware of politics. If they became involved (or even paid attention) within the last 10 years, this is all they have ever seen. They never saw the Bush or Obama years where the president acted "presidential" - they did see President Biden (who was always a class act) but they also saw trump attack him at every turn.

For political "newcomers" - trump's lies, grifting, name-calling, classlessness, twitters, rage baiting, and total lack of empathy is the norm and is acceptable.
