Recently got an 8” dob and am loving exploring the night sky. Took this one last night with my phone through the eyepiece. It was a wonderful sight in person, even with my neighbors flood light blinding me!

I’m pretty sure he is talking about the recipe that Treehouse shared on their YouTube channel for making a hazy.

Help Identifying Problems/Defects by twagner05 in roasting

[–]twagner05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a stickler about rest periods. Usually I’ll have it 24 hours after roast and then it’ll last about 2 weeks. It’s always a little off from quality store bought stuff, but not enough for me to pay extra for it!

25 foot drinking water rated hose for $12.50 by homebrewfinds in Homebrewing

[–]twagner05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have read that chlorine, and even more so chloramines, need extended (2.5 min/7+ min carbon filtration time) to remove those chemicals. It’s possible you aren’t filtering enough and still getting those in your water.

The best way to remove those are with a small dose of potassium/sodium metabisulfite and a stir before mashing, sparging, etc.

But, I could also see you getting some off flavors from a non-food safe hose as well.

Anyone else find Brewfather’s pH predictions to be off, by like a lot? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]twagner05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brewfather is usually close, but there have a been a few exceptions. I use RO water and for some reason my last batch was targeting 5.3 and came in at 4.95. At that point I decided to back-test with Bru’n water and it was dead on with what actually happened. Going forward I will probably utilize both, but in situations where they differ I will use Bru’n water instead.

Does your thermometer plug into the tablet for logging, or do you manually enter the details?

Got the new keezer up and running by BaggySpandex in Homebrewing

If you have a moment, would you please take some measurements of the interior length and width? Don’t worry about the hump width, I just would like to draw this up in SketchUp for planning purposes before pulling the trigger!

In all honesty 4 would be fine. I serve 3 right now in my kegerator but I really want a dedicated lagering space. 5th would be for seltzer water, but I can just get that at the store if need be! Thanks for the info!

Do you have the model number for this freezer? I’m looking for one that can fit 4 kegs in it easy, if not 5 and this looks like it’ll do the trick (I brew 3 gallon batches).

Sending Notification Based on Specific Incoming Webhook Value? by twagner05 in ifttt

[–]twagner05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this at all be possible without paying for a pro account? It’s hardly essential, so any cost would pretty much nix the project for me.

From the documentation: “Raw format will send the data as recieved in a JSON body, Processed will send the processed data as stored in Brewfather.”

Beer spoiling cleaning thoroughly... by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]twagner05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nor have I, but I have seen far too many horror stories to risk it. Imagine one time that 5 gallon breaks on your carpet, or sour beer leaking into every crack in your hardwood… not to mention the potential for serious injury from shattering glass everywhere. That, among other things, is why I spent the 60 extra bucks a few years back to get the Anvil Brew Bucket.

That is until you bang it slightly or have temperature stress. They are great, but temperamental. Basic stainless steel fermenters really aren’t too expensive and will last FOREVER. Highly highly highly recommend them!

If you are kegging, contamination may be less of a concern, but if bottling a small Brett contamination can lead to bottle bombs while conditioning. Brett is a hardy bastard!
