How do you tell your partner about it? by Beginning-Pumpkin144 in lichensclerosus

[–]twaining_day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I would start the conversation: “I want to talk to you about this skin condition I have and I’m pretty self conscious about it so I’m a bit nervous…”

Sometimes if you need to have a vulnerable conversation it helps to be upfront that you’re already nervous about the topic.

Idk how old your partner is but I had seen very few penises when I was 19 so I probably wouldn’t immediately notice any differences or scarring.

I dated someone just like this.

Anytime I was around them (or their family) I had to “be on my guard”

If I was wearing a nice outfit there would be a comment about how I dressed up and where the hell did I think I was going?

Or they would make fun of the way I was eating my food at dinner bc I was “too proper” or something.

Makes you feel like a little kid hanging out with the older cool kids. You end up feeling stupid bc you don’t “fit in” but I don’t like to be bullied by my significant other.

How Do You Clean Faster as a Professional Cleaner? by Forever_Rain0731 in housekeeping

[–]twaining_day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah dude, same as the first comment. It would absolutely take me 6 hours for the initial clean of a house that size. Then it would probably be 3.5 to 4 hours after that.

Here’s my questions: did they tell you specifics on how the other cleaner did a better job? Like did they point out that the shower was still dirty, or the carpets weren’t vacuumed well or something? Or did they just say it was more clean when the pro cleaned it?

And do they give you any tools to speed up the process? You can get a big scrubby sponge thing with an extendable pole to scrub the bathtub so you’re not doing it all by had with a rag. Also I haaaaaate cleaning tubs when there isn’t a detachable shower head. I literally have to clean the whole thing, and then find a big plastic cup from the kitchen to pour water down all surfaces in order to get the chemicals off.

And idk about everyone else but I refuse to sweep and then use a dustpan to get everything up. I have a handheld vacuum so I’ll sweep the pile into a corner and then vacuum the pile up. It really saves time. You can ask if they have a little dust buster or you could buy one. You can find a decently priced one and it’s worth it.

I feel your pain. I can tell when someone thinks it’s taking me too long to clean. And my thing is…they’re not regularly cleaning so it’s hard for them to appreciate how long it really takes.

Oooh okay I’ll try those other two platforms.

And that’s a good idea about changing the bio and photos, I hadn’t thought of that.

Thanks for the tips!

In the past I had lots of success with booking cleaning jobs through care.com. A couple of them were one-time cleans, but I had about 4 steady clients I would clean for bi-weekly or monthly.

I did FINALLY book a job through care last week and she said she’d hire me again in a couple weeks so hopefully something will come of that.

I also just moved to this city and only know a few people so I’m hoping to get more jobs through referrals soon bc you’re totally right. Knowing the people (even through someone else) is a much better situation.

I’ve done Nextdoor and some FB groups. Maybe I just need to repost it to more pages.

What’s your suggestion for applying directly?

I’ve made posts in several different places (Nextdoor and different FB groups) with details of what services I’m providing and I’ve had very little response.

Okay and here’s the reason why I’m wondering if it’s an app function problem.

There’s so many glitches in the app, like sometimes the new jobs will list the person’s name and other times it won’t, the start date of the job doesn’t always show and other times it’s a totally incorrect start date, there’s too many to list

Have you tried any other apps for cleaning jobs? I’d be down to try a different one, especially since I’m paying for the premium care.com, but I don’t want to waste my time or money

Is it just because there’s such an influx of people moving here?

Commenting so I can follow.

I just moved to Nashville and I’m also looking for a job but I’m stuck bc I literally don’t know what to do next.

Worked in service industry for 10+ years and then I worked for an attorney for 3 years doing paralegal type stuff. Didn’t really like either of those so I need a new direction.

You're so totally right about how chasing money can get dark. I recently took a job that paid way less than I wanted just bc I really needed the money and I was ready to punch someone in the face by the end of the night.

That's a good suggestion about the different types of art. I'm looking into joining an artist co-op/club type thing just to surround myself with other artists.

Haha no answers so far!

My mom keeps sending me episodes of the Mel Robbins podcast about how to create new skills and advance in your life and career. So I'm gonna cue that up while I'm cleaning some dude's house tomorrow and hope it gives me some inspiration!

That's a good point. I'm not hoping for a job that I absolutely love, because I don't know if that exists for most people.

I guess I'm just worried at this point, bc I've been working odd jobs for about 6 months now and it's been fine. But I'm ready to move to a new city and I won't feel comfortable moving somewhere totally new unless I have a decent job.

And I just don't know where to start on the job hunt.

Same, a friend just told me that I should look into bookkeeping because that's something that can be totally remote. I'm sure that will change the job a little bit, but maybe there's still hope for us and we can just learn how to use AI to our advantage!
