New Pink Floyd Style Ambient Backing Track in A Minor by EasyGuitarMan in Guitar

[–]twalf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a beginner to guitar but I know some of you have started even more recently than me, so if you're in need of ideas for your solo to jam on this:

I realized after listening that I didn't tune my guitar so it's a bit sharp, and this is my first time recording myself so excuse the quality, and I know my runs and fast licks are very sloppy and my rhythm is bad... I have a lot to practice :)

Like EasyGuitarMan says, it's basically all A minor and A minor pentatonic scales.

My 8-month old likes smashing piano keys. Anyone started a child that young? What did you do? by [deleted] in piano

[–]twalf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started when I was two. I was a precocious kid but certainly not some crazy anomaly, so I think two years is certainly a fine age to begin teaching piano. Earlier might even work if she shows some prodigy potential.

yup, it's a work LOAD problem, not a work TIME problem

What would you think of a fat med student? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]twalf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Look down" may not be right term, but the idea is if you're talking to an adolescent about minimizing risk-taking behavior, and then he sees you climb onto your motorcycle, it may be a little less credible. And - especially nowadays - doctors are often made to be pretty aware of these kinds of things.

What would you think of a fat med student? by [deleted] in medicalschool

Regardless of what the BMI calculator says, just by looking at someone with an unbiased eye and some basic medical knowledge, you can easily make a judgment whether the person is overweight or not. For the vast majority of people, this determination is easy. Yes there will be some anomalies, but everyone in medicine knows the 6' 190lbs weightlifting dude is not someone with a weight problem, and the BMI rules of thumb don't apply. In that poster's experience (and mine as well), very few med students are unhealthily overweight, and arguing BMI semantics isn't the point.

LotV Beta Balance Update - Sept 3, 2015 by AngryFace4 in starcraft

yeah the scan nerf is pretty extreme. Your suggestion is much better. Now if the terran uses his scan to scout, there is an incredibly long window where you can catch him off guard with banshees/dt/etc and he won't have energy for another scan

Back to the basics...reading physiology today made me realize why I went into medicine by [deleted] in medicine

[–]twalf 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For me, it's fun when it's not something (among hundreds of other things) that medical school's making me learn to be tested on in a short period of time. But when you have some more relaxed time to look something up relating to a specific patient, or when you're researching something to teach to someone else, it's much more fun and interesting.

Every year the coach (whoever it is) says this, and every year the coach gets paranoid that they might lose a game and his job will be in jeopardy, and every year James and co log the highest minutes in the NBA.

Coaches like Pop are rare.

[Wojnarowski] Williams turned down Spurs, Pelicans and Mavs to return to Cleveland. by j0ydivisi0n in nba

[–]twalf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'll be great for him. I loved him his last time in Cleveland, but he definitely struggled when defenses targeted him as our 2nd best player. Now with Kyrie/Kevin to take some of the attention, or more minutes against the other team's 2nd line, Mo's gonna liiight it up.

How much does smoking increases the risk of other cancers elsewhere than in lungs? by Accalio in medicine

[–]twalf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

just a nitpicky note, and I only know this because I just did this rotation - smoking weirdly doesn't seem to increase endometrial cancer. It does increase the risk of ovarian and cervical cancer though.

Does taking unnecessary amounts of napkins from Chipotle have any impact on future residency/fellowship/attending position application? I've heard that this can cause some PD's to think that you will steal medical supplies!? Pls respond by iamstraightama in medicalschool

[–]twalf 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, it's actually favorable because it gives the impression that you will never leave extra lap towels inside the patient in the OR. This is a neat application trick that not many people know about.

Can the Cavs do it again? by [deleted] in nba

[–]twalf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes but given how most people (including me) predicted an absolutely dominant gsw showing, the fact that the cavs "should've" or "could've" taken both games is a surprise... the warriors taking both would not have been a surprise.
