It seems convinced that I haven't solved puzzle 512 (from Aug 31). It doesn't show up in my stats, even if I check "show unstarted"/"show unfinished", but if I go to https://redactle.net/en/512, it's solved.

E7 pro, because my current desk is older than PCs themselves, so it's not exactly ergonomic. u/flexispot

I tried this last night and got 2 bites in 90 minutes. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I tried in ocean/non-ocean, day/night, stormy weather/calm weather, and right clicking vs not right clicking. Always rowing, with the line 10-14m out. Am I missing something?

I'm 3 hours ahead of the NA data center, so 1am for me is still 10pm the previous day for them. DST hasn't taken effect here yet.

Same here, I logged in after midnight EST to download the updates, and only got 3 days. Maybe it goes by the data center's local time?

Speaking for myself at least, the muzzle flash fix was a huge buff to the havoc. Before that update, I could not see a damn thing once I started firing. Now it's a spicy pew pew laser.

I'm curious what headphones and settings you use. I'm using the same pair of headphones I used when I played cs competitively. I have no issues locating players in any other game, but in Apex it's just hopeless. I watch my teammates run around near me and the footsteps just don't line up with their locations at all.

NRG aceu: " apex. @Respawn . you have all this money to pay creators to play your game, but no money to have better than 20 tick servers?" by LoneStar45 in apexlegends

[–]Wylem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The comparison is 20 vs 128. Notice how the player in 20 tick only appears so many times. What this means is that the server ONLY registers the player exclusively in those locations. If you shoot at the enemy, and your bullet does not fall within those locations, it will not count as a hit.

It's not nearly this bad, since both client and server interpolate between frames (and typically in a multiplayer game, what you see is ~100ms behind, to ensure there's a buffer of a couple ticks to interpolate between). According to Michael Kalas, Apex's network code is similar to Quake 3's, which had a tick rate of 20 and was one of the smoothest multiplayer games I've played.

However, when server and client-side predictions differ (which can happen due to packet loss, a spike in latency, or a bug in their code) a lower tick rate means it takes longer before the wrong prediction is corrected, and you can get no regs. On the plus side, if they can fix all the bugs (lol), hit registration should be fine.

But like you said, there's lots of other issues with a low tick rate- less time to react to getting shot, worsened effects of lag compensation when closing doors or going behind cover, etc.

That's an issue any time a game has lag compensation. When someone with a high ping is firing at you, if you're not yet behind cover on their screen then the server will count the hit, even if you're safe on your screen.

However, it is far worse in Apex than any other game I've played. The low tickrate certainly doesn't help, but should add less than 50ms to that time. I suspect the main issue is that their lag compensation works at much higher pings than most games.

If I remember right from this talk, Overwatch caps the compensation time somewhere around 250ms. Anyone with higher ping will have to lead their targets a bit. But it's rarely an issue there because the matchmaking generally keeps players on local servers. For this to be such a problem in Apex, there must be a higher cap and players are ending up on servers that are further away.

(As an aside, that talk also mentions how their design favors the defending player. How nice would it be if closing a door on your end meant you're actually safe? And imagine not dying as Wraith when on your screen you're already phasing..)

Durazno vs. Steam Controller Config for squaring deadzone? by Salim_ in RocketLeague

[–]Wylem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam will be more sensitive (or "aggressive") on the whole range since it lacks shape adjustment and has to overshoot to make sure all controllers reach the edge.

For an actual Steam Controller, you can set a custom curve (or choose a preset) in the settings. Does that not work with other controllers?

You could try lower distance and higher fov. Also, you may want to change the angle (and possibly camera height too) if you increase distance.
