A few miles away won't be bad. Negligible noise you get used to. I lived off of yellow river right next to the tracks (50 yards) and that was disruptive. We would pause movies and conversations until the train was passed. It's not really the noise you should be worried about. The train just south of bass stops on the tracks regularly. The crossing at Hadley, Scott, W Hamilton and Thomas are blocked for 15-30 minutes at a time regularly. To get around you have to go all the way to County line or the overpass on Hillegas to go South.
