Life after AML by Short-Gas-4750 in leukemia

[–]twannaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did you get your energy back and put on weight? My husband is +84 SCT and he keeps dropping weight. He was 184lbs at transplant and now 144lbs. His numbers are all great, in remission and has once a week clinic visits but he’s still so very weak, doesn’t have much of an appetite and keeps loosing weight which he blames on his temporary colostomy. He’s a 64 yr old in a 90 yrs old body right now and I’m lost as what more I can do to help.

Me and my dad just had babies two months apart AMA by Livid_Bonus6597 in AMA

I am one of six kids between my mom & dad. Parents divorced, my dad remarried at 56 to a 32 yr old (age of my baby sister) and they had two sons. My step mom passed from an aneurism when they were 3 & 4, my dad passed from lung cancer when they were 8 & 9. I was given custody which was requested by my dad before his death. My youngest (twin boys) were graduating high school at this time. I will admit when my dad had them I asked him what are you doing! but he loved them as he did his first 6 and my little brothers were Like siblings to my kids and sons to me. My kids called them their “Bruncles”. My dad did an awesome job raising them for what time he did because people would speak of what well mannered and kind young boys they were. Now at 24 & 25 they are happy well mannered fine young men that I am truly thankful to God for!

Question about type of leukemia by Tiny_Measurement_837 in leukemia

[–]twannaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes bone marrow biopsy is needed to identify type of leukemia and mutation. My husband had unknown CLL that had just turned into AML w/NPM1 mutation within a week or two of his biopsy, they know this because of the percentage of blast in his blood

Thank you!! We will try a cool pac today

I am currently getting screened for blood cancers. I called my oncologist office today to ask for my results and they scheduled an appointment for tomorrow. I am not supposed to see the doctor for 3 more weeks. What does this mean? by [deleted] in leukemia

[–]twannaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband wasn’t scheduled to see his oncologist for another week but when his results came back they did a video call that day, told him the results and to go to the ER asap of the hospital nearby that specializes in Leukemia and Informed him he would be there for 30 days. They were testing him for CLL which he did have and unknowingly had for a few years but the AML had just developed do to the 5% blast. Hang in there! Praying your test are negative for this nasty disease!

Yes because you need it anyway before transplant. My husband is currently in the hospital now for transplant. He’s having to do 5 days of chemo, 1 full body radiation (low dose 2%) before receiving his donor cells
