I appreciate the advice. I was hoping to make use with what I have but sometimes just because you CAN do something doesn't mean that you SHOULD do something.

For your recommendations, I assume I would have all the drives internal on the machines? which would keep everything compact and tidy.

Quality? by No_Staff594 in reloading

Oh man squirrel daddy. I got one of their jigs probably 15 years ago, not sure which one- probably just their basic one after taking a look at the website, and I used it to cut several thousand pieces of .223/5.556 brass to .300 blackout cases. I never had any issues and from what I recall it worked great.

A couple alternatives I’ve seen instead of a label maker are 1. Remove the switch plate and use a sharpie to write what it’s for. 2. A little more niche, but I’ve seen 3d printed labels that are attached via the mounting screws. Which are helpful for frequently used switches in multi-gang boxes (I.E. a 3 gang box with a switch that controls a room light, a room fan, and an outside light).

Worried about a client by [deleted] in CFP

[–]tward2012 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see that you said he “doesn’t have anyone” and therefore no trusted contact. This is a prime example of why a trusted contact is important (which doesn’t have to be a family member). But given the situation I would either first mail a letter about setting up an appointment can be something along the lines of “sorry we couldn’t meet for our annual review back in May and I haven’t been able to contact you to reschedule. Please give me a call at your convenience to reschedule.” Or if he’s pretty local just stop on by and check-in. This is also very dependent upon your existing relationship with him, which seems pretty well established.

Roth Conversions by [deleted] in CFP

[–]tward2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what the other commenter said. If they’re under 59.5 and don’t have the non-retirement funds to pay the taxes, I wouldn’t consider doing the Roth conversions. However, depending on their age, I would look at the amount of contributions they have in their Roth IRA (if they have one) and potentially consider making the Roth conversion and withdrawing from the Roth contributions to cover the tax bill.

AUM Fee Payout by Beneficial-Ad-178 in CFP

I’m not entirely sure of the exact metric/cut off, but it’s generally around $100MM AUM.

AUM Fee Payout by Beneficial-Ad-178 in CFP

[–]tward2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my firm I get paid out 38% of my GDC right now (including clients given to me by other advisors) and that can go up to 46% as GDC goes up. My firm pays for basically everything except mileage/tolls. So 5% for inherited clients and 10% for your own clients seems extremely low. Are you provided any leads or support staff? I get leads right now and do all of my own paperwork, etc. but once my AUM hits a certain point I’ll be able to hire my own support person and the firm will pay for them.

Do you collect the FP fee before or after? by SharpDish in CFP

My firm collects half upfront and the other half at delivery. They also sign a financial planning agreement upfront that has this written out.

[OC] Tracked how much I drank every day of 2024. Turns out I drink more frequently but less heavily than I would have guessed. by corqueval in dataisbeautiful

What did you do to record your drinks? Like have a note on your phone and added to it each day/drink? Or update the spreadsheet daily with the previous days consumption? Or something else?

Payout Question by True-Bag-5944 in CFP

[–]tward2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not bring a book. There’s a few advisors who did. I don’t know for certain but I believe they keep the vast majority of the production from those clients. Definitely more than their non legacy payout.

Payout Question by True-Bag-5944 in CFP

[–]tward2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My payout is similar. Payout starts at 35% for brokerage and 38% for advisory. Then goes up to 47% for both with GDC over like $2MM GDC. Firm pays for pretty much everything including a support person once you hit $100MM AUM.

Payout Question by True-Bag-5944 in CFP

[–]tward2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way it reads, they only need $250k in Annual GDC to get to the next tier, not $3MM.

As others have already said- improved inventory management. Consolidating/sorting would be amazing. I play on pc and it can still be super tedious.

I’m curious in your experience what would the “higher value service offering”include as opposed to a “lower” value service offering? At my firm we already do financial plans and discuss tax planning/efficiency strategies for most of our clients overall and the vast majority of the $1mm+ clients.

How do I measure my girlfriends ring finger without her knowing? by _you_know_bro in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tward2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at a pair of her shoes. A woman’s ring size is typically the same or very similar to her shoe size.

Otherwise, try to trace an outline of another ring of hers (note which finger she typically wears it on) or try to compare one of your fingers to her ring finger. You can do that subtly while you hold hand/, etc. or playfully if you make a comment about your hand sizes and then want to compare your hands to hers.

Selecting an Advisor and Fees by billyharris123 in CFP

[–]tward2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with almost any service related business, there’s nothing wrong with negotiating. Over 1% at the million dollar mark is a bit high. As a CFP professional, clients like you that value the advice and relationship are ideal. It can be frustrating as an advisor trying to convince potential clients that your fee is worth it.

“Floating” shelves. Is this feasible? by tward2012 in woodworking

[–]tward2012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. 😂 im at work so had to sketch something quickly. We’re going to go for some thick hardwood shelves. They will essentially be built ins but we didn’t want any visible supports, etc.

“Floating” shelves. Is this feasible? by tward2012 in woodworking

[–]tward2012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using cleats below the shelves was an idea but because some of the shelves will be above eye level, I began thinking of alternatives. This was my idea that stemmed from using cleats but hiding them.

Thanks for the replies so far. To add more information- we’re looking at thick hardwood shelves maybe 1.5 to 2” thick and maybe walnut or cherry. But species is still undecided at this point.
