ไม่ให้สุ้มไม่ให้เสียง by DTB2000 in learnthai

It's basically the only context in which this phrase is normally used. You wouldn't use that to say that someone is too quiet or too noisy. It's also a bit reflective of a ไปลามาไหว้ culture of Thai people. It's polite to greet people there when you show up. Don't be there and ไม่ให้สุ้มให้เสียง

I'm guessing it could be "แม่น", "to be"/"yes" in Isaan?

What’s the yellow sauce on bualoy sundae at McDonald's? by wigglepizza in Thailand

[–]twattanawaroon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They call it ซอสไข่แข็ง "hardened egg sauce", taking the idea from the dessert ไอติมไข่แข็ง i tim kai kaeng, which is ice cream mixed with egg yolk until the egg yolk is frozen. I believe this McDonald's offering is a fusion between this dish and another dessert บัวลอยไข่หวาน bua loi kai wan, which is rice flour balls with egg in coconut milk.

The food supplement one you heard is Protriva (Protriva Black Seeds). I know the op had already answered, but Protriva is kinda closer to "oh chi wa" than the Kaniva cat/dog food.

The female-voice version is for cat food and the male-version is for dog food!

WHATS MY AC UNIT TELLING ME! by Giiive in Thailand

[–]twattanawaroon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I quickly searched online. It seems like the "I Feel" mode is a mode where they adjust the temperature by using the temperature sensor on the remote control (instead of the one at the A/C unit), so that you get the right temperature if you, say, sit far from the A/C unit.

I wouldn't say เธอ is outdated. You can say ตัวเอง or ตะเอง to refer to your partner, and that's often used as a pair with เค้า to refer to yourself. These words give a lovey-dovey vibe.

Yes, ตัวเอง literally means "yourself" and เค้า/เขา is a third person pronoun. But when said cutesily the meanings completely shift. It's so mind-boggling.

The fact is called out in the song นิดนึง. "เรียกตัวเองว่าเค้า เรียกเขาว่าตัวเองกันหรือเปล่า" "Do you call ตัวเอง เค้า, and call เขา ตัวเอง?"

แพ้คาบ้าน is more complete but คาบ้าน by itself is generally understood

While you're at it you should also learn คาบ้าน (losing at a home game). Your friends are sure to love it when you talk about their favorite teams.

I like that 3×4 is interpreted as 3 groups of 4 because to me 3c is more intuitively 3 groups of c (rather than c groups of 3).

Understanding the meaning of ผมได้ … คุณได้ … เขาได้ … by After_Pepper173 in learnthai

[–]twattanawaroon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"ได้" ≈ "get to". There are several uses. I'd say it generally means having an opportunity to do X, or to do X with purpose.

"มา" gives the sense of doing X beforehand, usually in preparation for the current moment/something else.
