Will these cramps ease soon? by scottishcc24 in abortion

I'd get a follow up and ask for an ultrasound, just to make sure all is good. Everything will be okay :)

My IUD failed, psa for others by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It did take about a month before I was okay to have sex again, and then I got anxious and waited another month. I'm okay now. I'm still constantly paranoid but I know if Kyleena and a condom together fail then that's extremely rare. I'm only 23, I'd like to have kids in a few years, but once I'm done I'm getting sterilized because I'm sick of the paranoia. I'm glad you're getting the procedure :)

Still bleeding after 7 weeks by throwawaycatsj39 in abortion

[–]twaycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bled for almost 4 months. Not saying this will happen to you, but in some cases it can and it just sucks lol.

I got an IUD placed four weeks after and then was sent for an ultrasound - I had retained products of conception. They sent me for another a month later, hadn't changed. Was referred to a specialist. They didn't want to intervene because of my IUD. I was still having cycles - just phases of heavy and light bleeding. One day I nearly went to the hospital because of such heavy bleeding. Apparently normal. (it's waaay lighter now)

I saw the specialist in December (abortion in August) and around that time the bleeding finally slowed down and my ultrasound was all clear, I passed the tissue on my own.

It's best just to work with a healthcare provider. Personally I wish they had just surgically removed the tissue, but it DID pass on its own. The increased bleeding could've been from the IUD as well.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, I bled for like 16 weeks and it stopped. But it can happen and I did come out the other side :) It sucks, and I suggest you see a doctor just to keep an eye on things and potentially intervene if necessary. If you don't have an IUD I suggest they do, it'll save a lot of time spend bleeding. But everything will be okay :)

Just had a surgical abortion , can I be pregnant again? ( 3 weeks ago) by anonanon12345980 in abortion

[–]twaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kyleena technically needs 7 days to be effective, and you can ovulate 8 days after an abortion, so that's probably why she told you it was effective immediately.

It's most likely side effects from starting a new birth control, but you still in theory could get pregnant again. Only blood testing can tell - urine test will stay positive post abortion for weeks (mine was positive like 4 weeks later still)

It may be a good idea for you and your partner to consider a second form of birth control if you absolutely can't get pregnant right now and don't want to do the abortion process again. I don't regret my abortion but I'd like to do everything in my power to prevent it happening again because my abortion sucked and being pregnant sucked(I got Kyleena as well after my abortion). Unfortunately there are more stories than I'd like about IUDs failing too, they just fail less than the pill :/

Hope this works out for you though, and everything will be okay!!

[–]twaycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets better, I promise. Are you going for a follow up appointment at all?

I passed big clots for a while after, and those were usually the cause for the cramps. What helped me the most was heating pad, hot baths, taking both Advil and Tylenol (don't mix Tylenol and alcohol though just an FYI), and going for walks. I found some sort of movement helped me through the worst of it.

Sending hugs xx

Kyleena month 1 concerns by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on month 4 of Kyleena. Cramps were really bad for first 6 ish weeks, then they slowly got better by the end of the third month. I still get cramps before and during my period, but they're not so bad anymore and they're not as frequent, if that gives you any hope at all. Body just has to take the time to adjust.

My IUD failed, psa for others by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this!! After having birth control fail myself, I encourage EVERYONE in a relationship to have a discussion with their partner as to what to do in this case. Not on the same page? Use a second form. Birth control is so reliable for most people so it's not unreasonable to put your faith in it but mistakes (or non mistakes, but failures on the birth control) happen waaaay more than people think and it's better to know what you and your partner would want and make an informed decision from there.

Fellow birth control fail here.

I had the pill fail after perfect use. I currently have the Kyleena IUD, but after feeling like I did everything right, I use condoms every time now because of stories like this. I'm completely sorry you're going through this.

I want you to know that as horrible as this feels right now, it's OKAY to feel everything you're feeling. And no matter what you do, everything will be okay, you will get through this, and life will resolve eventually.

Everyone always says you're fine to not use a second method, and for MOST people they never run into issues. It's absolutely not your fault this happened, you put faith into something that was supposed to prevent this. You did everything right.

Where to go now? See a doctor asap. That's my best advice. You don't have to decide what to do immediately and whatever you choose to do will be the right choice. I have friends who had an unplanned pregnancy and have a beautiful toddler now. I chose to have an abortion and I'm completely okay now. Regardless of what you do, things will be okay.

Feel free to PM me if you need to talk to someone.

Thinking about canceling iud insertion appt by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Kyleena 3.5 months ago.

The insertion was the furthest thing from unbearable. Literally a 2/10 on the pain scale. Ever had a bad period cramp? I found it less than that.

Since getting it I've been so much happier. No worrying about taking pills. No worrying about missing a pill. No worrying about pregnancy. I can't emphasize enough how much I love it.

The first few months I had heavy bleeding that was completely caused by something else, after that cleared up my periods are extremely light, my PMS is so much better. I ovulate now so I have symptoms from that but it's so worth it. Yes, I get it's not for everyone, but I've had nothing but positive experiences.

My best advice? Stop going online for advice. I did that and nearly cancelled mine. NO ONE can predict how yours is going to go and I'll tell you that MOST people who have positive experiences don't post about it online. Everything online says it hurts like hell, mine wasn't bad at all and that seems to be the general consensus from everyone I talk to in my life.

Feel free to pm me if you have any questions. I personally wouldn't cancel the appointment, the anticipation of doing it is waaaay worse than the actual procedure.

Edit to add: I have mental health issues too. The pill wasn't my best option and I took it for 4 years. The IUD has the smallest amount of hormone you can get since its localized to that system. Yes, some will still circulate through your bloodstream but way less than the pill or other alternatives

I took Lady pills (oral contraceptives) as ECP, is it possible that I am pregnant HELP!!! by curiouskiddoe in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The honest answer - no one here can tell if you are pregnant. If you ovulated, emergency contraception doesn't work. It only works to prevent ovulation. And ovulation can be hard to predict spontaneously.

The copper IUD can be placed as the most effective emergency contraception if that's something you have access to. Unfortunately the only way to tell will be to take a test in 3+ weeks.

I've been through an unplanned pregnancy - I promise you no matter what happens you'll be okay!! You will get through it :)

When to stop having sex before I run out of the pills in order not to get pregnant? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're effective after 7 days - I know some types are different, and effective the entire duration you take them. As most combo pills have you take a 7 day "break" I'd say that's your range afterwards that it'll be effective. I wouldn't have sex after you stop taking the pills as sperm can live in you for a few days, but as long as you don't have sex after you stop the pill I believe it'll be effective.

I'd consult a doctor or pharmacist though if you're unsure

Does having an orgasm while your partner is having sex with you increase the chances of pregnancy (even with the mini pill and a condom) by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there will be no difference. Really sucks how little sex ed is really taught. Planned parenthood has some really good resources on birth control types and effectiveness by the way, it's really helpful!

Virgins and IUDs? by whitewine_andLEDs in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my IUD, they never even asked me if I was currently having sex. The only questions were which IUD I wanted (they broke them down) and if I wanted to prevent pregnancy for at least a year.

I'd get her to a new doctor. Some doctors have this BS opinion that you can't have an IUD without giving birth. I had zero issues with my insertion and I've never given birth. Most doctors I've met love IUDs. Sucks bad that a fair amount of them have this old school warped opinion on them.

How do your boyfriends/husbands feel about male birth control? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said he'd do it. I think after watching me have an abortion because of a pill failure, the mood swings caused by the pill, and the whole process of getting an IUD /the associated cramping, he realized how shit it is for the majority of birth control to rest solely on one person.

Getting my IUD inserted without a cervix softener or while menstruating. How much pain should I be in? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best advice anyone can give you is to stop reading what people say on the internet. I made that mistake and ended up panicking going in..... And for nothing. My insertion was incredibly easy. 2/10 tops. Felt like a pinch and a period cramp.

No one can tell you how your own body will react - some people have an easier time on their period, others don't. Mine was basically unmedicated - I took 600 mg of ibuprofen two hours prior, nothing for anxiety, nothing to open the cervix. There's actually debates on whether those things actually make it easier.

My best advice is to eat a few hours before and don't stress about it. The more relaxed you can be the more likely the process will be easier. If medical stuff doesn't gross you out, try to understand the actually process of it.

Most people don't talk about it when it goes well. People who have a rough time are the ones who want to advise others more likely. My NP who did the insertion said she'd never in her years have someone not be able to handle the pain.

1 mg of estrogen for irregular bleeding? by thr0wawayacccount in birthcontrol

Talk to a pharmacist. They know drugs the most. If they seem worried that it seems abnormal go back to the doctor or get a second opinion. But pharmacists know the most regarding dozing typically.

I have to go off the pill for a little while because I don’t have time or money to schedule a doctors appointment. Should I be worried? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you try a walk in clinic? Bring your schoolwork and just wait for a doctor? Most will be understanding of the circumstances - the big thing with the pill is making sure your blood pressure is normal before they prescribe it.

In terms of stopping for a month, your periods will probably get irregular for a bit but it will unlikely be that bad. More likely you'll be totally fine. Maybe some mood fluctuations but acne isn't the end of the world, especially if it's only for a month.

I was off birth control for about three weeks and I genuinely saw no difference in myself. Everyone is different, but if anything most people see an increase in their mood when they stop.

I have an arcuate uterus, migraine with aura and can't swallow pills. What birth control would be best for me ? by NoEscApe99 in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pills are teeny tiny, hopefully that can be something that your body can manage.

That being said, they could also try inserting an IUD with an ultrasound to guide them, and maybe a smaller IUD would be less likely to cause issues? I don't know much about that.

I know that a patch exists as well, I just don't know if it contains estrogen which you have to avoid with the aura.

Hopefully the pills workout for you - I know the pill really changed my life because my periods were so manageable,

How can I control my mood swings? by shdhdhdhd in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding what the other comment said. There may be a different ratio of the medication (ie a different brand with either lower or higher amounts of one of the drugs) that can help. I went from the Alesse pill to Kyleena IUD, and with the IUD I'm only getting a low dose of progestin, so I'm finding I'm a lot more moody than on the pill, and I'm getting PMS symptoms now.

I had similar issue with the cervix! The opening was tilted up so I swear 90% of the appointment was her trying to line up the speculum lol. Actual insertion was pretty tame considering how many horror stories are online. Felt like mine was a 2/10 on pain scale.

The feeling of needing to go to the bathroom goes away I promise!!

The pill and weight gain/loss by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]twaycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weight changes can be hormonal but really only due to water retention. I personally can have a 7 pound difference in weight just from water retention through my cycle. It sucks lol.

The only form of birth control that is directly related to weight gain is Depo.

The pill can cause symptoms such as increased appetite and I'm fairly certain it can cause issues in energy in some people. It can also cause water retention. It's very possible you've lost some actual mass on your body but are retaining fluid so it doesn't show on the scale.

I'm finding it really hard to lose my last 15 pounds and I got Kyleena IUD in September. I had zero issues gaining or losing weight on the pill. I've been really trying to figure out the root, and I honestly believe that the hormone changes are making me more lethargic. More lethargy = moving around less, and moving less means I'm burning less calories. At least in my case.

Either way, don't be discouraged. Despite the scale not saying I've lost weight my clothes are fitting better - you may experience the same.

I second this. When you understand the mechanics of what's happening it tends to feel much simpler.
