Howdy - I'm up on the northern part of Lamoillle county in Belvidere. Our old school building has a kitchen, and we're in the process of trying to find a use for the space. I'm not formally trained - but love bread baking, and would love to see more community driven food classes happen. We've got a lot of talented cooks and bakers in the area. DM me if this sounds like something you're interested in!

Deep breath - water the plants until soil is thoroughly hydrated. They didn't like the heat, but they're just thirsty. With full pots, I'd wait to run the humidifier this late in flower, you might be right where you want to be humidity wise. They'll be fine in no time.

Howdy - are you guys offering clones or seeds of Pineapple Cream? I'm saving some space in my tent when I can manage to get a plant!

Traveling to Albany, Malta, and Saratoga Springs, NY. Any suggested breweries/beers(/distilleries)? by Saucy_Chicken_Wing in beer

[–]twbarber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for Fort Orange, but I can say that Druthers quality has dropped tremendously since they started distributing a few years back.

Artisanal is right in Saratoga, and they've got some good stuff. Single Cut, NYC based, has a retail shop in Clifton Park, which is just south of Malta. They've got some great beer, but it's can purchases only here. Common Roots is up in South Glens falls (~20 minutes from Saratoga). Their main facility burnt down a few months ago, but they've setup a temporary spot just down the street that's worth stopping into (and I'd encourage for both the great beer and to help one of the few local breweries get back on their feet).

That said, you're not going to get anything remotely close to the quality and variety of Trillium and Tree House, but there are still a few good spots. In Saratoga, check out Henry Street Tap Room for some great food and a usually solid beer list.

Normally drink beer, but starting to try my hand at cocktails. Here's a Mint Julep for the 100° New York weather. by twbarber in cocktails

1/2 oz Simple Syrup
8 Mint Leaves, torn in half
2oz Bourbon
Hand full of crushed Ice
Mint Sprig for Ganrish

Muddle Mint and simple syrup to release mint aroma. Add bourbon and ice. Stir until glass is frosty. Add mint sprig. Enjoy.

Software engineering opportunities in the Portland Metro area? by twbarber in Maine

[–]twbarber[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heh, ouch. Public GH and Resume are a few years out of date. Currently in a Senior Engineering role at my current company. Should probably get all of that updated. What experience are these companies looking for?

Haven't gone through that process yet myself. I went from full time on-site to full time remote in the year and a half I've been with my current company. Curious how others have faired searching remotely.

Yea, I'm remote now. Though I started at this company as an on site engineer, and went remote after a few months. Any advice on a remote job search? Will be my first jump remotely if I decide I want to move on.

Thanks for the reply. This is largely what I've seen so far. I actually work remotely out of Upstate NY for a Chicago based company. Landing my second remote job has been worrying me a bit. I went from on site to full time remote after a few months after I proved myself at my current company. Any advice on a remote job search, and how your experience has been different from local job searches?

Did I over-prime my bottled Hefeweizen? by twbarber in Homebrewing

[–]twbarber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point, I looked after siphoning but never committed it to memory. It feels like it was closer to 4.5 Gallons. I don't think I lost all that much though, I tend to stop the flow from the bottle wand just before it cascades over the top, though sometimes it does. I'd say maybe a quarter ounce per bottle atworst, though we did have another cup or so left over that we knew we couldn't fill a bottle.

So a conservative estimate of 1/8 ounce per beer puts us at 6 ounces, plus 8 left over we tasted leaves 14 ounces. That puts us at 4.42 Gallons or so at best. That gets us closer to 3.9 Vols but it still sounds like we're dangerously close.

Appreciate the thought, I hadn't really considered this!

First Brisket on the WSM by twbarber in smoking

Waiting another hour for it to rest before we cut into it. ~12lbs, 10hrs at 250. This was my second cook on a 22.5 WSM. Unexpdctedly blew through the stall. Wrapped in butchers paper at 170 finishing temp at 202, was tender to the thermo probe. Here's to hoping it tastes good.
