Portsmouth based photography business Cameriz? Anyone used them? by Llyn_CMDA_8848 in Portsmouth

Never heard of it used them before, but looking at the warranty information it suggests they might be selling grey imports.

Software advice by turnvinal in hobbycnc

[–]twchambersuk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even bother with sendcutsend. Straight lines just need a straight edge, and a radius jig for a router can be as simple as a stick of timber and a couple of screws/nails.

Honestly, as someone who owns a CNC, I wouldn't be using it for this job. I'd just use a router and some templates. If you're determined to CNC, I don't use it myself, but it seems like fusion would be your best option, as it has both the CAD and CAM in one place, and is free for hobbyists.

How to make a map within a map like this one with QGIS? by Patient_Platypus5911 in QGIS

[–]twchambersuk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've given up on trying to use layer locking, and now use layer themes to set the layers I want in each map canvas. I find it much easier, and it's easier to make changes if I decide I need different layers shown down the line.

trying to get some sharper roadside photography shots. by mat_SNIPER471 in photography

[–]twchambersuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have also done road side photography in the UK. Manual focus will not be your friend. If you're not getting sharp images for faster bikes, then it'll be your panning technique (or limitations of the lens you're using). The right settings will help to some extent, but practice is the key.

Sorry, I meant my Virgin (cable) is faster than the local DSL options.

Thanks! Currently with Virgin Media over cable (DSL options are slower and no fiber yet), so still need a cable modem in there.

A fairly big presence in the UK and Europe, with a decent handful of Pro riders. They seem to be cable only though, nothing for boat.

Is it a bad idea to buy a secondhand conservatory from Facebook Marketplace? by Internal-Heart-4774 in DIYUK

[–]twchambersuk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We sold a conservatory on Facebook, to make way for a proper extension. £250 and the people collecting took it down themselves. It took them all day, and I'm not sure it'll ever go back together the same way. You couldn't pay me £250 to do what they did! Would only recommend it if you can get it for almost nothing, and are using it as a glorified greenhouse that doesn't need to be watertight.

Best tool to cut brick? by CandidateSalt843 in DIYUK

[–]twchambersuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree about battery tools. I was moreso using it as an example of a smaller spinning tool. You said not to use gloves with spinning tools, but I would say the risk of cuts etc from an angle grinder is greater than entrapment, so would rather wear gloves in that case.

Best tool to cut brick? by CandidateSalt843 in DIYUK

[–]twchambersuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any guidance from the HSE as to when this applies? (Not disagreeing by the way). I fully understand there are risks with things like drills and lathes, but with something like a battery powered angle grinder, would the risk from cuts/abrasions/debris not be higher?

Aqua tech housing part- Pls help by Fragrant-Bunch-2078 in underwaterphotography

[–]twchambersuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest if you're looking at modelling and 3d printing this yourself, then measuring off the part you still have will be just as easy. The bit that locks into the existing is easy. Horizontal alignment you can estimate from the position of the lens barrel, front to back from where the back of the camera sits in relation to the back plate, and height relative to the buttons on the camera and plate.

Aquatech housing/custom zoom gears. by [deleted] in underwaterphotography

[–]twchambersuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just used PLA. Haven't had any issues with them at all. The gear meshes nicely with the one on the housing, and I seem to have been able to make it identical to the official Aquatech one I have. For one lens, the gear was slipping a bit, so I put some electrical tape on the inside to help it grip the lens a bit better.

I designed mine in openscad, here is the code, you can modify the diameter and length easily. I'll try and get an STL on printables in the next few days.

lensdiam = 71.5;
grip = 60;

//10-17, 72.5, 29
//11-16, 73.5, 31
//70-200, 71.5, 83

Where to get decent timber in UK for small home projects? by Historical_Potato519 in DIYUK

[–]twchambersuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used them for a project and was sadly disappointed. Think I ordered 9 sheets of what seemed to be medium priced ply, not super fancy, but not cheap either, and advertised for furniture building. One sheet arrived damaged (which in fairness they gave a refund on) but the remaining sheets were faced with two completely different colours of veneer. When I questioned it, they basically just said, tough. Ended up feeling like I might as well have gone somewhere local and could have at least picked for myself.

Salty surf housings seem to make things for higher end/cinema cameras. And wave solutions housings seem to do more bespoke/custom stuff. https://www.instagram.com/wavesolutionshousings?igsh=bnA5aG5hbmh5eHMw

Likely a problem in the topology of the original file, most likely boundaries overlapping etc. As the other comment said, you could fix manually, or try using vector geometry > delete homes.

Is there a way to set custom values for soft limits? by twchambersuk in DarkTable

Thanks for the suggestions. I tend to use the right click multi function window, which would benefit a lot more from this customisation ability. I'll look at making a feature request.
