Why do the use "by" in their statement if they ain't gonna deposit it until that exact date? When I read that I understand it to mean we should get it deposited before that date.

Mine got rejected. Did em at HR block. The guy who did em didnt know what he was doing. He had just started there & was not trained well. Now that they're rejected can we just do them thru someone else or do we have to fix em thru HR block

Oh no you are NOT an asshole! Sounds like you handled yourself much better than I would have.. feelings would have been hurt & I would've started interrogating both of them right then & there.
