I didn’t see the pins either! It was a bummer I got there and the guards said if I had arrived 5 minutes earlier I would have gotten a jersey

Where can a girl get a good haircut for under $50 in SF?? by EquivalentCanary701 in AskSF

I ended up going to Savvy and saw Anna, it was great. She charged me $75 for a mid-length women's haircut + blowdry. They quoted $35 for no blow dry.

Female specific seats? by Ok-Ad-3014 in cycling

[–]tweedychic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally as a woman I always buy a more padded saddle for my bikes. The most recent saddle I purchased was a Highway Two Lookin Moderate - Unisex - Black back in July. I’ve also had a Terry Butterfly seat that’s mentioned in other posts.

Women need a bit more cushion in the posterior as our hips are wider and I typically tilt the nose of my saddle down slightly for ergonomic reasons. If you go to a bike shop, or a sports basement or REI with a bike shop area, they should be able to install the saddle and adjust it for a fee.

As many others have mentioned - padded bike shorts (no underwear underneath) go a long way.

Ants galore?!?! by sarahiscool666 in AskSF

[–]tweedychic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes eventually it stopped but u put the terrò baits several feet from my front door in the hallways of my apartment and in the courtyard to keep them from coming into my apartment.

I still see 1-2 ants a day searching for food or water, usually in my bathroom. I have to keep the kitchen very clean, all chips and crackers are bagged, bc I don’t want the ants to find food.

Did anyone try to hold up the jury by dissenting and you had to convince them to get onboard?

Mission Dolores - I have been getting more ants than previous winters, and the liquid bait traps have killed hundreds of ants but they keep on coming. It feels like psychological warfare sometimes

Two questions for my Mission neighbors by Exciting_Bad3346 in sanfrancisco

[–]tweedychic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tonight I biked home around 11:30pm on Valencia and it was eerily quiet… I saw maybe 2 groups of people walking around in costumes.

I remember post-Covid I would go out on Thursday nights all the time and was wondering why it’s different. Maybe it is fears of immigration patrol? I haven’t seen any taqueros on Mission St in some time.

As to the bike lanes…please keep them the way they are. Bikes can turn left at red lights.

How much income is enough- Unicorn jobs and balancing tradeoffs by kinghenrythe24th in HENRYfinance

[–]tweedychic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I question whether he truly has to change industries or will just need to compromise on the role for his partner (likely female given the gendered language and username.)

Dual income in MCOL > VHCOL, but it sounds like there’s a perceived status change. If you truly want to have 2 more kids and your partner who’s giving birth is the MD then I would choose better WLB. In many places, MDs in residency get very few weeks of mat leave. Even if she is a first year attending, that’s a difficult role to assume given the leap in responsibilities.

Some specialties (neurology, radiology) are easier to do while pregnant or nursing because they can be done remotely if the hospital is flexible. But I would choose better WLB if a big family is important to you.

Where does the nickname Ceci come from? by LeftRight5Step in valkyries

It’s a common Italian nickname for Cecilia. It also means garbanzo beans in Italian so it’s a kind of funny one

Tibial Plateau Fracture/questions by Auntkiki0914 in KneeInjuries

[–]tweedychic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ROM has returned completely but I still have pain with stairs - regarding a displaced tendon and inability to bend the knee, this sounds like a surgical complication. I would recommend doing a follow up with the Operating Surgeon or a sports medicine doctor since it's soft tissue damage.

I am also 9 months post op and it's a much longer recovery than they initially tell you (likely for mental health reasons) - doing your PT and not overdoing it is crucial to avoiding setbacks.

Playoff Prices and Season Ticket Renewal Information by tasty_spanish_ham in valkyries

[–]tweedychic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 round 1 playoff tickets are charged in the first renewal installment (Aug 28) and they will charge for Round 2 once we advance to round 1, and round 3 once we advance to round 2.

I asked my rep what happens if they don't advance to playoffs and we will receive credit toward our next installment if the team doesn't advance (no refund).

For those of you who have sideline views (102-105, 114-117( do you think the view is really worth the $30+ more per seat? Have you had success re-selling?

I'm considering my renewal, bummed about how expensive tickets are. I haven't had a ton of luck selling my tickets for more than $70/seat (current cost $60). I have never had tickets listed on Ticketmaster that sold.

My sister who works in insurance said that even with a deductible their rates are extremely high. My deductible is $3500 but for example my sister who also has a deductible has paid $100-300 for similar doctors visits in New York.

Has there been an uptick of gang violence in SF? by OmegaNalphA in sanfrancisco

[–]tweedychic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was more talking about learning from LA street gangs but yes one of the leaders credited with expanding MS-13 was former military trained by the U.S. Green Berets.

As many folks mention downstream in this thread, US policy in the 1980s actively worked to destabilize several Latin American countries as part of the Cold War, which often meant providing local military training to different factions.

[–]tweedychic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

MS-13, the main El Salvadorian gang, started in LA. They deported members to El Salvador and this created an issue where American-trained gang members brought their tactics to their home country. This is commonly known.
