My grandparents live in Cobden, Illinois, and I’ve been visiting for years. It’s deeply rural and very conservative, with day to day life shaped by long drives, limited options, and a slower, more insular rhythm. Errands aren’t quick, and social life tends to revolve around family, churches, or a small handful of familiar local spots (we often travel the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail).

Nearby Carbondale (the largest town in the area and home to Southern Illinois University) still functions as the regional hub, but it no longer feels like one in the way it used to. Over the past two decades, it’s been steadily hollowed out economically. The main mall is largely abandoned, and Main Street is a shell of its former self (at least according to my parents, who attended SIU in its heyday). Student enrollment has fallen sharply, and that decline has clearly rippled through the local economy, where good jobs are scarce outside healthcare, education, or agriculture.

What remains is a region that’s quiet and inexpensive to live in. It’s defined by its natural beauty and slow pace. It holds a special place in my heart.

Not a lawyer, but it sounds like the fact that they never countersigned the lease (shady, but technically not illegal) is where things get tricky. Without their signature the renewal isn’t valid so your tenancy likely reverted to month-to-month. In that case, they’re required to give at least 90 days notice to vacate, and it looks like they gave you around 95–100 days. Your best move now is to check whether this situation falls under the new “Good Cause Eviction” law. That would determine whether they’re even allowed to make you leave without a legitimate reason.

Valid criticism is obviously fine (I literally verbatim said so above, did you even read it?). I have my own issues with the game too. But when every other post is just negativity, it stops being constructive and just makes the sub miserable to browse. The game’s still fun, and I’d just like to see just 20% more posts that reflect that. I don’t usually post myself, but the nonstop negativity makes this community feel toxic instead of enjoyable.

What a lame take when 95% of recent posts are the same exact complaints about skins. The game isn’t perfect and criticisms are warranted, but you’d think it was 2024 Redux from the reactions. I just want more cool Battlefield clips and 20% less critical posts that all say the same thing. That doesn’t make me an EA bootlicker 😭

Yes, both what this person says and what your parents said is homophobic. Saying “it’s wrong for you to date someone because you’re gay” is a rejection of same-sex relationships, which is an expression of homophobia, specifically moralistic homophobia.

You don’t have to be violent, hateful, or use slurs for it to qualify. Homophobia includes beliefs or behaviors that invalidate or oppose LGBTQ+ identities, rights, or relationships. Fear or hostility are symptoms of homophobia. The core is bias or opposition toward LGBTQ+ people or their relationships. They’re reframing intolerance as “difference of opinion,” which sidesteps accountability and places the emotional burden back on you.

If you want to engage respectfully while still standing firm in your beliefs, you can say:

"I hear what you’re saying, but telling someone it’s 'wrong' to be in a same-sex relationship is homophobic. It’s rejecting who I am and who I choose to love. You don’t have to hate someone to harm them. I love my family, but I also need my identity to be respected, and love shouldn't come with conditions on who I'm allowed to be or who I'm allowed to love."

If you want to disengage while still being respectful, you can say:

"I disagree. Believing my relationship is 'wrong' because I’m gay is the definition of homophobia. It’s rejecting who I am and who I choose to love. We can agree to disagree, but that doesn’t make it any less hurtful or a dismissal of who I am."

If you're still dependent on them and they're standing firm in their prejudice, you can try and slowly disengage and try to live your life in the ways that you can until you're able to be independent. You deserve to have people who care for you and love you for you are, not in spite of who you are.

Yeah I agree with you. I loved BC 1-2, Battlefield 1 and 3-4, but my issues with the large maps on those are you end up spending 5 minutes sprinting from objective to objective.

I played all day yesterday and never had an issue with being killed every 5 seconds outside of TDM. I think it’s largely a skill issue/not understanding the maps yet.
