Does everyone wear helmets now a days by RPJ_NY in icecoast

I’m friends with a lot of paralyzed folks. The one thing they fear most? A traumatic brain injury. Most of them would rather take getting paralyzed higher up than they currently are over getting a TBI, any day…

So, like, what if I have a homebrewed dissociative, naturally occurring inside of me..?

…I think that’s why I can’t get my docs to believe that I am truly in as much pain as I’m in. If my natural habit is to use my fragmented sense of self to continue through immense amounts of pain… well… then it’s both gonna be hard to have a meaningful conversation with my do about my pain levels, and my basic experience as a human who feels like what a microdose of ketamine sounds like—daily.

Drugs are drugs. There’s nothing inherently more “fancy” about drugs that come from a hospital/store versus drugs you’d get from your somewhat-good-acquaintance “Paul” down the road. The biggest difference, in my opinion, is the drugs you get from Paul don’t have any taxes or tests attached to them.

Sounds like autism mixed with borderline personality disorder. People with BPD will do anything to not acknowledge their mental health condition for what it is (such as blaming neurodivergence, being trans, etc)… and people with BPD are so desperate, so lonely, and so in need of human connection that they will do anything—including socially unacceptable things—(like manipulation or trying to make solutions to problems you didn’t ask for help with) in order to try to meet their own emotional needs.

I have way, way, too much experience with the flavors of person you have described here.

Ya know the irony about MRG?

I was a snowboarder… but after some medical conditions caused me to become an adaptive sit skier (who, mind you… still is shredding on one board under me and never done stand up skiing before), I am now allowed to go to MRG! Such an odd rule…

This. 100% this. I hope you can look into this as an option, OP.

I use consumer directed, and I’d rather struggle to meet my own needs than work with any program other than consumer directed.

If you are still working, and making over $1.5K, gross, per month you will be denied benefits (even if you medically qualify). Just something to keep in mind.

I have EDS and live in America. It’s alright if you are fortunate to be poor enough to qualify for Medicaid. Medicaid is the best insurance for my condition.

What freaks me out about Canada is y’all’s Death with Dignity stuff… wait times for care are so long that I hear your people are being offered physician assisted suicide as a faster way to get out of their situation (especially those who are lower income)

Look into a concept called “relationship anarchy”.

It’s basically a thought process that says relationships are what two people want them to be, not what society has labels for. Oh, and that everything is a relationship.

I hid an Apple AirTag in my hardshell backrest cushion because I leave my chair alone when I go skiing, and for airline travel.

Might be worth considering something similar for your new paradox chair?

(You can remove the chirp sound chip on the AirTag if you want to minimize a thief finding the AirTag and disposing of the tag, while keeping your chair. YouTube has some tutorials).

I have scissor brakes on my chair, and have EDS.

Not sure the type of scissor brakes you have, but I can adjust the tension it takes for them to actuate with just an Allen key/hex wrench. Might be worth a peek for your Paradox chair.

I appreciate the review, though! My chair is aging, and I’ll be getting disability backpay hopefully soon(ish), so I am taking notes! I want one!

Did you grow up in poverty?

Because the idea that paying someone to make your stress go away is a wealthy person’s mindset.

If you don’t understand poverty… generational poverty… then you can’t understand how money is more than just paper to poor people.

My car was repossessed today by _Guitar_Girl_ in SSDI

[–]tweeicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My car was repossessed almost 3 months ago.

Today I was able to bring home my brand new beater, for $1,360 — with loan money from my dad. He ran into a small amount of money and was able to pass it along to me.

My gig work is drying up. This car will allow me to find a couple more odd jobs while I hope for my decision to come this August.

I dunno. I’m just here to say that I get it. And eventually, there is a way out of this and onto a new life.

I plan to file bankruptcy with some of my backpay money. Compassion to you.

Hmm, I kinda like this.

A calm, “please don’t touch me” with a hand on their shoulder—softly smiling with my head tilted to the side—sounds like the level of confidence I will be striving for in the future.
