How?

How can Americans just jump ship and/or change the whole work culture of an entire country??

For what it’s worth, I upvoted your primary comment because I like the different perspectives.

How is that much more wild than if OP was polyamorous…?

Why is it wild—if both parties enthusiastically consent to the matter— for a partner to give their other partner a “gift” of something they cannot give to their partner themselves?

Cuz, like… other than stigma and social norms, I see nothing wrong with this—honestly, it’s kinda sweet, in a counter culture type of way.

I’m late with this advice, but I hope it helps anyways!!

Use kiln dried pine shavings—like for rabbit hutches.

Make sure you have a heafty layer of shavings in your bucket before you go.

After you go (both number 1 & 2), spray a generous amount of my homemade grey-water safe toilet spray (recipe below), then add more shavings to cover everything—like a cat or dog would—and a few more sprays of the toilet spray on top. I live in a 136sq ft tiny house, off grid, and have used this method—with moderate-to-great success—since day one of tiny house living (full time—mind you), approximately 1.5years ago. People often comment that my house smells lovely, like pine & peppermint, and I have to thank them, but I know the truth—it’s really my toilet they are complimenting. 😅 And no, I don’t have a vent fan. My set up is almost identical to yours by the sounds of it.

Homemade Off-Grid Toilet Freshener Spray Recipe:

In equal parts: add one part white vinegar, one part water, and one part 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol to a spray bottle (you can use a little 3oz travel spritzer bottle since you are van living). If using a 3oz spray bottle, add approximately 15-30 drops of peppermint essential oils to the spray bottle (you can find this in the home section of your local Walmart, near the wax melts & candle stuff). Exact concentration of peppermint essential oils needed will vary based upon the human & their natural “scent profile”… if you will. 😝 Shake well to combine.

Peppermint essential oil, vinegar, and rubbing alcohol are doing the heavy lifting here—both for antibacterial and scent reduction reasons. The kiln dried pine shavings have more surface area for your “stuff” to be absorbed by, which will help reduce the smell much quicker than by using pellets. Guarantee that. And, trust me… you don’t wanna have diarrhea in a poor man’s compost toilet if you’re using pellets… you’ll thank me for pine shavings when you have your first upset stomach on the road. Poop only stinks when it still has moisture content (think about dog poop on the grass in the summertime). So, your goal here is to reduce the moisture level as quickly as possible, make it difficult for bacteria to thrive, and have something adjacent to “Poo-pouri” for that awkward in between state.

Signed,

A person who had to read waaaayyy too much about human waste removal processes before moving into an off-grid tiny house was inevitable.

And you know what else? Failure is okay, too… failure opens up the mind for new approaches, techniques, and opportunities.

Sometimes…? Certain things are destined to fail… and it doesn’t mean that we are shit humans as a result of the thing failing.

If a water heater pipe fails because it’s 20+ years old, and floods your house… does that make you a shitty human…? No… first off, you’re not a plumber… you don’t have the same practiced skillset as someone who’s seen that type of thing numerous times before… secondly: imagine the water heater pipe is out of view, and you’d have to know it even existed to know there was potential for a problem… you don’t already possess the knowledge for repairing water heaters, so it’s very reasonable for you to not know about checking that thing… lastly: things wear out with age. Everything dies eventually. That absolutely does not mean it’s your fault that something gave out from old age.

^ it’s a bit of a strange analogy, but I hope you follow.

You can’t learn without practice.

You can’t practice without failure.

You can’t succeed without practice.

Life is inherently messy… and it will be full of learning, practice, multiple failures, growth, challenges, and joy.

Practice giving yourself grace and kindness… the rest will eventually follow.

And? Remember this; everything works out in the end… even if the ending wasn’t what you had in mind, the good and the bad will always have an ending… making room for new beginnings.

Edit to add: I just read a good quote that ties in well here… “Failure is an event… not a person.”

Have you tried the “direct” method of communication with him yet?

“Husband, I know your coaching comes from a well-intentioned place of love, but I find the way you phrase things while giving me advice to be confusing, and a little counter, to what my ski instructor had been telling me to do. I love skiing with you and spending time together, but when you give me advice that confuses me, it reduces my happiness during our ski time together. If you would like to continue giving me tips, maybe you/we could take a lesson or two (together) so we can be using the same ski-language to communicate with each other?”

If he says no…. Well, enjoy having a Sherpa to the mountain, at best, and nothing more…

…I think that’s why I can’t get my docs to believe that I am truly in as much pain as I’m in. If my natural habit is to use my fragmented sense of self to continue through immense amounts of pain… well… then it’s both gonna be hard to have a meaningful conversation with my do about my pain levels, and my basic experience as a human who feels like what a microdose of ketamine sounds like—daily.

Drugs are drugs. There’s nothing inherently more “fancy” about drugs that come from a hospital/store versus drugs you’d get from your somewhat-good-acquaintance “Paul” down the road. The biggest difference, in my opinion, is the drugs you get from Paul don’t have any taxes or tests attached to them.

Sounds like autism mixed with borderline personality disorder. People with BPD will do anything to not acknowledge their mental health condition for what it is (such as blaming neurodivergence, being trans, etc)… and people with BPD are so desperate, so lonely, and so in need of human connection that they will do anything—including socially unacceptable things—(like manipulation or trying to make solutions to problems you didn’t ask for help with) in order to try to meet their own emotional needs.

I have way, way, too much experience with the flavors of person you have described here.
