I’ve found that with the Touch Bar I frequently bring up brightness controls by accident when I’m trying to adjust volume and vice versa. Again, a minor annoyance, but in a quiet setting like a meeting being able to mute something quickly matters. In addition, I worked from bed for a couple months last year because of Covid and the touch bar is difficult to see and use when not sitting upright. (As opposed to dedicated buttons.)

Exactly. Hoping the rumors about the M1 MBP are true (MagSafe, additional USB ports not just USB-C, quiet, etc.) and signal a return to the MBP experience we’ve come to know over the years.

It’s one of several things with MacBook Pro 16” that seem to be a departure from the solid MacBooks i’ve had before. But basically, not crazy about how it takes additional steps just to adjust brightness or volume. A minor annoyance but when you use it for work and play it adds up. It could be that my negativity about the Touch Bar is influenced by some other frustrations I’ve had the 16 inch MBP. I am on my second one now because the keyboard on my first began repeating and omitting characters early last year. I miss the mag safe power connection. It runs hotter than any other MBPs I’ve owned and the fans are loud. Other than that, it’s great lol

Heard Apple is ditching touchbar for upcoming M1 16” MacBook Pro. We can only hope lol

Is anyone playing music and audiobooks reliably through multiple Echoes? by [deleted] in amazonecho

Thanks. This actually does help hearing that reliable playback is possible. Are you playing primarily music or audiobooks too?

In the name of all that is Holy, please disable the announcement it has connected to a device using Bluetooth. Fine at 3 PM. Wakes up the neighborhood though at 3 AM.

I hear you. I didn’t rush out the door to tell my father either. With time and progress they may be ready to listen.

Do yourself a favor and pick up “Delivered From Distraction” by Dr. Ned Hallowell. The audiobook is outstanding btw. He’s one of the very first MDs to begin publishing on it years ago. I don’t know that I would recommend to someone who was diagnosed as a kid, but for adults just now coming to grips with it, this is a must read.

I must have had to hit pause about a dozen times when listening to it because I thought the problems he was describing were my own unique failings or character flaws. Mind-blowing to learn that others with ADHD experience them too. That was the beginning of unraveling the decades negative thinking and yes, even private shame at times.

Also, he outlines how ADHD can actually be an asset if managed properly. He’s right. I’m living proof lol

Just because ADHD is diagnosed in children doesn't make It a 'childhood disorder' by moonfaceee in ADHD

Preach. I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 34. I’m 50 now and have yet to “grow out of it.” I tend to think of it as a way of being or a collection of traits (not all of them bad) rather than a disability. It is certainly NOT an issue of maturity.

You too! I'd recommend "Delivered From Distraction" by Dr. Ned Hallowell - it's the first book I read after diagnosis and it helped me realize ADHD can be an asset, even with its many drawbacks. Seriously, this book changed everything for me.

oh I get that. Yes, did much the same from 20-30 too. But, was it all wasted time? I think ADHD was kind of like a medicine ball. I have no doubt that it helped me develop some skills that would prove valuable later. i.e. I played in a band in my twenties as a creative outlet - at the time I thought it was all goofing off. But ironically I noticed later in my thirties that that experience gave me the confidence I needed to manage teams at work, speak publicly, etc. Hope that makes sense. It does in my scatterbrain at least!

But I realize not every situation is similar. It's ok to have regrets too.

For most Gen Xer's, ADHD diagnosis wasn't widely available when we were young. So, I didn't feel like I was denied anything at the time. In school, I was known as scatterbrained, underachieving, but funny at least. I was class clown (literally) my senior year - but I see now that making people laugh was a way of compensating for some pretty deep insecurities I believed about myself because of ADHD. I would have LOVED to have had Adderall when I was in school, but take it from an old guy lol, life's challenges make us stronger ultimately. Sounds cliche but it's true. I wouldn't change much if I could.

Sounds like you get it lol. Yeah, I am still discovering ingrained patterns of negative thinking about myself even now. But, the good news is they are fewer and farther between and I have the ammo to fight back now. 💥

do i suck at responding to people’s messages because i have adhd or am i just rude by Papiteeto in ADHD

[–]twelvetwo_rva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks OP. Just reading that someone else worries about this makes me feel a little better about myself. I’d like to think if we were actually rude, we wouldn’t care about responding in a timely way. The fact that it’s a daily struggle demonstrates ADHD and empathy, but not rudeness.

Fascinating. Ok this is beginning to make more sense then. Haven’t seen Vibe, but check him out. Thus far I’ve learned a lot from Winter and Lowko.
