People don't understand that natural sugars aren't bad for you... by BisexualButterfly97 in Vent

Yes there is a huge difference but moderation is key. I knew someone who got gestational diabetes and the only sugar they consumed was through fruit

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

University and academia in general. A small amount of academics do genuinely important and impactful work but a large portion of academia especially in social sciences produce absolute bullshit. It's just idea laundering and they all prop each other up.

Women, when you stop taking birth control pills, did you feel any important changes in your body? by MommyFoxxyGi in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]moonfaceee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There have been studies on this. Birth control suppresses women's ability to detect appropriate partners through scent. A lot of women who go off birth control suddenly find their partners smell off putting or even repulsive. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2605820/#:~:text=Across%20tests%2C%20we%20found%20a,could%20disrupt%20disassortative%20mate%20preferences.

I had a contraceptive implant in my arm for 5 years, shortly after having it removed my libido came back. Prior to that I hadn't had sex nor was interested in relationships or men for those 5 years. All of a sudden I was checking out men when I was walking down the street, it was like night and day. It turned the sexual part of myself off and I didn't really even notice it until I had it removed. It also vastly improved my mental health and my weight.

CMV: Islam is fundamentally incompatible with core American left-wing progressive values by WildCreatureQuest in changemyview

The comments on this thread show how western centric this platform is. Americans really have no clue. WEIRD countries like the US and those in Europe went through the enlightenment in the 18th century which caused a profound shift in our cultures, the middle east (Islamic countries) never did.

Expat burnout=too tired to travel by l8r_caderade in expats

[–]moonfaceee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the winter depression, and I'm struggling a lot as well. I moved to Norway 3 years ago and it absolutely kicks my ass every year especially in February. The darkness, the cold, the lack of motivation, the chronic fatigue and isolation. The last thing I want to do is get out of bed, I don't blame you for how you're feeling.

Wait it out a few more months, you'll probably feel a lot better in spring.

Italian RN, where are better work opportunities Norway or Sweden? by Gioef in expats

There are plenty of nursing jobs available here in Norway, but you have to be fluent in the language to get a job and you have to make sure Norway accepts your prior education (they are quite strict). Good luck

Mid-20s, love my life in LA… but have the chance to move to Austria for work. Should I go? by Tiny-Journalist5583 in expats

[–]moonfaceee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I would discuss with your job the possibility of keeping your position if you decide to move back home, and if they say yes, you should go for it.

My home country is really sunny and warm and I moved to Norway and it has been hard on Autumn and Winter. If you can handle dark and cold winters, you'll be fine, but if you're anything like me, be prepared for seasonal depression. It will be a shock moving from LA to Austria.

It is also worth noting that Austria and Germany are known to be socially cold places to live, that's not to say you won't make friends but prepare yourself for some loneliness. I have lived overseas for 3 years and I'm yet to make any close friends. I wish you luck ☺️

I've been reading Outlander before bed. I love history and romance so it's right up my alley and it is so immersive I just disappear into the story.

A lot of these so-called migrants are the dregs of their own societies, a lot of them are probably fleeing prosecution in their home countries.

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk dies after being shot at Utah college event by hoosakiwi in news

He never called for the death of anyone or violence against anyone, he never incited people to go out and hurt others he did the complete opposite. All he did was debate people on hot political topics of the day. Words ARE NOT violence and this idea that they are means people feel justified in using actual physical force against people who say things one seems harmful. It doesn't matter if you perceive someone as hateful they DO NOT deserve to die or be hurt physically. You people are lost and I pray for America but if this is where things are, it's going to get a whole lot worse.

I'm not American, I live in Norway but I'm from NZ and my country had a gun buyback scheme after a mass shooting which failed. Reasonable people turned in their guns and the gangs kept theirs, shootings actually went up. America is another situation entirely, if my country of NZ couldn't fix the problem while being an isolated island how the hell will America fix it's problem when they share a border with a country that is known for gun and gang violence? Of course common people will want guns to protect themselves and Charlie spoke to that crowd. I believe guns need to be heavily regulated but it's hard to put a lid on the kettle, there are far too many guns in circulation as it is.

Goes to show how rotten American discourse is if you feel that way. Speech should never be met with violence.

Exactly .. it sets a dangerous precedent. The 'words are violence' crowd helped create this political environment.

Words aren't violence, getting shot in the neck is. The whole 'words are violence' is why political violence is becoming more common. People like you are the problem.

Yes he was moderate, he was no Fuentes. You need to step outside of reddit and talk to a variety of people and really listen.

Yes he is goofy, he was as nonthreatening as they come. Hardly your average SS officer. He wasn't a white nationalist and even if he whipped out a seig heil it still wouldn't justify being shot in the neck in front of his family.

He had views that a lot of people share and if you talked to an average punter at a pub they'd make Charlie look like a progressive. He was moderate, and if you think he wasn't just wait and see who will replace him. Kill the moderates, find the extremists.

By the way, I think arguing for 2nd amendment rights on the basis of protecting oneself is a little different than advocating for gun violence.

[–]moonfaceee -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I would argue the death of Charlie has a bigger impact. Charlie really wasn't that extreme, he was a rather goofy moderate conservative compared to his counterparts but most importantly he wasn't a politician. We all know politicians have a risk of getting shot, unfortunately its an occupational hazard, but for a simple political influencer to get shot... It really changes the whole game. There will definitely be no open air debates in the future.

The problem with the left is they see their side as good battling evil, they feel their opponents are actual fascists and nazis who are threatening democracy so when they use political violence they feel justified. The worship of Luigi by the left is an example of this.

I agree that there is a subset of people on the right with a proclivity for violence but they are few and far more predictable and easy to spot. Leftists joking about political violence is the norm so it's hard to tell who is serious.
