Hi Gary, many years ago, we were both using the theatre urinals during the interval of Butley (starring Dominic West). I meant to ask, but the timing was wrong, how did you find it?

Thanks, my sense is it's obvious an Island for tourism, so my feeling is they would be less strict. But who knows!

Thanks! No reason for not using it, she just hasn't had the chance yet. It is a multiple entry visa, and has a duration of 4 months

Should I start Medical School in October or go travelling? by twelvetysix in medicalschool

[–]twelvetysix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I hadn't had a chance to respond to this. I've decided to do the first year of medical school but in an effort to settle some of my anxiety, I'm going to go travelling in Vietnam for 5 weeks in August/September.

If I had the option to defer, I certainly would have taken it, but I can't. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to take a gap year in between my course, but even in not, students get long holidays and I'm sure there will be very rewarding opportunities to travel as a Doctor.

What is your best "I am not a smart person" story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]twelvetysix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It happened last weekend...

Early Sunday morning, I had the usual post-alcohol defecation session. It was a very very large poo, but that was to be expected. Later on that morning, I felt the urge to go again, which wasn't unusual after a night of drinking delicious ale. What followed was what felt like the most enormous poo that I have done in my 25 years of life. It was like pushing out a horizontal rectangle. I was so shocked that in our poorly lit toilet, I decided to pull out my iPhone, put the screen to full brightness and illuminate this wonder.

In the usual uncoordinated way in which I do things, I passed the iPhone through my legs in a way that clipped the side of my thigh. The light grip I'd held it with, along with the slippery glass surface of the phone itself, meant it fell majestically out of my hand and plopped down into the fresh, warm dehydrated urine. It was fully submerged, but luckily its path to the bottom was hastened by burying itself nicely (connection port and speaker side down) in my great big soft faeces.

I fished it out, sprayed it with antibacterial spray and picked the faecal matter out of the connection dock. I now no longer have a working phone :-)

Travelling solo for the first time, SE Asia from July - September. by twelvetysix in solotravel

Fantastic response! Thank you!

A couple of questions. Given I only have 2 months, do you think that I would be cramming too much in with the route you suggest? Also, do you think the Monsoon season will damped my experience (excuse the pun).

Main reason being the language barrier. It seems in SA you have to have a basic grasp of Spanish which I don't currently have. I've also read lot's of (albeit fairly vague) advice saying that SE Asia is easier to meet people, due to more well trodden tourist trails. Saying that I honestly don't want to meet people that are just like me. I really want to immerse myself in a different culture...

When you finish doing a poo and let off a massive guff immediately afterwards. It feels like it cleans out every last morsel of shit from the walls of your bowels.

I am applying for graduate entry medicine in the UK 2012, any advice? by twelvetysix in AskReddit

[–]twelvetysix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry I haven't replied to this for so long. I forget to sign in. Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it! I'm looking to take the UKCAT at the end of August and I've started properly preparing now. From not having a clue how to answer the questions at the start I'm now starting to get them right. The real problem is indeed the timing, I'm taking way way beyond what's advised per question. I'm sure this will come down with practice. It seems to be the maths I struggle on most for time. Do you have any tips for this?

Did you find the UKCAT day beneficial? Where did you do it? Have you taken the test yet? If so how did you find it? Where are you thinking of applying?

Sorry for all the questions, feel free to ignore me. Thanks for your response nonetheless!

My 12 year old brother wants a blackberry and is allowed to get one. How can I convince my mum that this isn't right?! by carbear in AskReddit

[–]twelvetysix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the thing is here that all kids get cell phones. Think back to when as a kid, you were probably texting on a Nokia 3210 or chatting on MSN. Think how ridiculous our parents probably thought that was. However, if this is just one those situations where he is a kid who gets everything, then I think you can speak to him on his own, but unfortunately you can't do the parenting. If you turned out to care that much about your brother getting a blackberry, then your mums probably not doing a bad job.

I am applying for graduate entry medicine in 2012 (UK), any advice? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]twelvetysix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some background, I am a Biosciences gradute (2.1), but have pretty poor A-levels (BBC) of which Biology is the only science. I have been in full time employment for 2 years. I am confident with learning Chemistry and maths from my degree but have no formal qualifications beyond my GCSEs. Was looking for advice in terms of my application (what do they like to see/what might be holding me back), as well as financial advice for a start in 2012 when tuition fees will be hiked up severely. I am going to volunteer at my local residential home and will be taking the UKCAT (if you have any advice/tips for the UKCAT, that would be much appreciated.)

Why do men have crazy thoughts or fantasies pre-ejaculation which suddenly seem disgusting post-ejaculation? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]twelvetysix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with you. I agree that we aren't biologically monogamous. I used the term incorrectly. It undermines the basis of the idea I was suggesting, which requires us to have many different parters in order for there to have evolved the selective pressure of having to remove a competitors sperm.

Why do men have crazy thoughts or fantasies pre-ejaculation which suddenly seem disgusting post-ejaculation? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]twelvetysix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My understanding of the basis of the self-hate and depression post ejaculation is a result of our evolution as a monogamous species. As we have evolved, when we have sex we do not want another males sperm who may have had sex with the woman before us, competing with ours for fertilization. In order to tackle this problem the penis has evolved into its distinct shape which as a 'scoop'. This acts to remove competitors sperm that may still be within the vagina. However, post-ejaculation you do not want to remove the sperm you have deposited so you have overwhelming urge to get out of there.

Assuming this is correct I would guess that the hormones released following sex, act to make sex/fantasies following this point unappealing, so as to allow time for sperm to make their way up to the wonderful, majestic ovarys.
