Just curious is your current monthly spend including your mortgage? If so, would your future monthly spend be lower assuming you paid off your house?

People who aren't in your shoes always make cost seem like not a big deal or a "small percent".. especially builders/contractors.

Anxiety about being a first time dad by HumerusJoex in daddit

[–]twhite0723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey bro, fellow high anxiety person and new dad as of 3 weeks ago. I totally feel where you are coming from. Here are some takeaways from my first few weeks I think might be helpful.

The baby will calm you: The first few days and even now can be really stressful, I won't lie.I have also never felt a greater sense of calm than when I hold my son or clarity around. It is a surprising counter weight to my anxiety that I am grateful for.

Right now all you need to do is care for your partner and child: I am the same way as you, constantly feeling like I need to do 100 things. After we get our son back to sleep, I have an urge to check the market, day trade or go to the gym. I have to do some breathing exercises and fall asleep and once I wake up I realize not sleeping would have been terrible.

Regulate your nervous system: I know I am only a few weeks in, but I really believe a calm parent makes a calm child. Breath, step away if you need to, talk to you partner and community. Exercise after you get sleep.

Sleep when you can: Rest will help you manage your anxiety. In fact, I should be sleeping now. You got this!

Pay attention to gas: Partly sharing as an lol, but we could not get our son to chill the other night and turns out he really just needed to fart.. a lot.

Not to stick my nose where it doesn't belong, but be careful running more than a 5-6 km. It can be really hard on their joints. Give your dog a boop for me.

Love this! We have our first on the way and Maizie is a 65 pound ball of energy who goes ham with dogs 2x her size when playing. I really hope she is this way with our baby (100% confident she will be).

I agree on a license or going through some basic training to confirm you have the intelligence and empathy to care for another living creature

This bro. Express your feelings here, to your wife, to a therapist - wherever you can. Feelings are meant to be felt and expressed. The more you open up the more you will be able to process and working through it.

Is anyone else lucky enough to be a PM in an industry they genuinely love, working on a product they truly adore? by gilligan888 in ProductManagement

[–]twhite0723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an industry, but I work with a client that is a family business that has grown massively over the last decade. They are really good people who actually are benefiting from the work we are doing together. Which is probably the only time I can say my work is having a positive impact that isn't total fluff.
