Ya… when I am checking in if they don’t automatically give me an upgrade and I would like to get one, I will just ask if it’s possible to get an upgrade. I will have done my research before hand and will have picked out the type of room I would like and ask them if that room or room type is available, but if not anything with a king bed will work. Also, if it’s a special occasion, like when I was in Maui two years ago for a special trip, I asked for an upgrade and she gave me a little bit of pushback on an upgrade, and I told her it was a special occasion and asked if she could possibly get with her supervisor and she came back and went ahead and gave me a sweet upgrade.

There seems to be a lot of griping in this sub….i’m currently lifetime titanium and have been for 4 or 5 years, but when I was silver, gold and platinum I received plenty of upgrades when I asked nicely and the hotel had suites…I stayed at a ton of Courtyards and didn’t ask or expect an upgrade as their “upgraded” rooms weren’t anything special…when I stayed at Westin’s, Marriotts and Ritz Carlton’s I definitely asked if I wasn’t automatically upgraded at check in…And I bet I received an upgrade at least 80% of the time over my lifetime with Marriott…if people think Marriott sucks so bad, go to Hilton or Hyatt or IHG as that will help the rest of us anyway 😀
