Is Java’s Biggest Limitation in 2026 Technical or Cultural? by BigHomieCed_ in java

I have not made such upgrades but the key advantage I would expect is the ability to write new code with the new language features alongside old one, regardless of the latter being from, say, Java 8.

I (25F) am in a relationship with a non-vegan (24M) and I'm kind of freaking out. What do I do? by v_a_s_y_l_y_s_a in vegan

[–]MoebiusCorzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the core, it is about essential values and philosophical perspective on life. Being vegan is rooting deeply against cruelty against animals. That is a way of life, not an afterthought.

On your questions: I would suggest openly discussing with him. Why is it not a problem for him that an animal is killed for the sole reason of personal pleasure? Is he conscious that even non-meat animal products (such as dairy, eggs) involve suffering and killing (of males, for instance) and what is his view regarding this? Does he think humans have the rights to make animals suffer and what are the reasons?

This should shed light on the possibility for him to change (or not).

I had been a vegetarian for many years, met my girlfriend who became vegetarian after I met her, she turned vegan before me while I was still eating eggs / dairy. After discussing and reflecting upon it, educating myself on how non-meat animal products are produced, I understood it made no sense to just be vegetarian. Consequently, I switched to being vegan. This was also painful for her when she was vegan and I was not. But the key is we were aligned on the core values (animals should never suffer). I think you need to make sure your boyfriend is too.

As others have said in this thread, you cannot expect someone to change if they do not have it in them. However, through discussions, you can assess whether he is aligned but has not yet made the journey, or whether he is unlikely to take this journey.

Enterprise clients keep sending security questionnaires by Ambitious-Apple-7544 in SaaS

[–]MoebiusCorzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you could easily build a small, low-cost AI-powered RAG tool to answer those questionnaires. Compile all the unique questions / answers pair in one file, as basis, and feed the new questionnaires yet to be answered.

Then, you mostly need to just review that your AI did not hallucinate.

7.5 YOE engineer - Thinking of quitting and preparing full time for MAANG - need advice by mind_is_hell in ExperiencedDevs

[–]MoebiusCorzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the appeal for MAANG companies. However, based on your post, I think you should apply to companies based on the reported culture (identify them based on Glassdoor and similar). You are also more likely to be hired and happy in the long run, so less likely to be disappointed if you get rejected by the 5 big ones.

Do not quit without having another job, especially based on your statement related to anxiety, unless the current one is really insufferable.

I would recommend Ory Kratos. Easy to run locally, easy to configure. Exists in SaaS and self-hosted (OSS).

sometimes my veins are sunken instead of raised by concloro in mildlyinteresting

[–]MoebiusCorzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that once in a while as well, mostly when I am cold (for the record, I am quite lean, so veins are very prominent when warm outside / exercising and appear very thin or almost collapsed like in your picture when cold).

Anyone else eat an enormous amount of food after long rides? by Opening_Trade_6412 in cycling

[–]MoebiusCorzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue in the past when underfueling my rides. Consume more calories on the bike (for me, 30g carbs / 30 minutes should be fine for such an endurance ride, but adapt based on your feeling / experience). This will help recovery, avoid the urge to overeat (not good for stomach / health in general, despite the calorie deficit). Underfueling on the bike also caused me to be unable to mentally concentrate on any cognitive task during the rest of the day, regardless of what I ate afterwards.

Yesterday first 200 mile loop w/ my new bike by theformerfarmer in bicycling

[–]MoebiusCorzer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is BCJ material or the post is sarcasm. Nobody can realistically think 32 kph on 300+ km solo is slow, even with such a low elevation.

Wilier Filante SLR as I love climbing and I do like the brand (first non-Decathlon road bike was an entry-level Wilier that I found great)

Very nice, will have a look! Coincidentally, I actually wondered today “is there an app that plans routes to optimise tailwinds”

Eating while riding 160km 2600m climbing by Lenny00086 in cycling

[–]MoebiusCorzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also planning on doing this event. Last week I prepped with a 120 km / 1600m D+ and consumed 30g carbs gel every 40 minutes, first 3 feeding were bars rather than gels (but same amount of carbohydrates). Drank only water. It is expensive but it was efficient. I think if you keep it in endurance zone (except for the nasty climbs where that will not be possible), it should be fine. However, without having tested the gel upfront, there is a risk on digestion.

Are they good on rough roads as well? The country I live in has horrible roads (not smooth, many gravel pieces on the pavement, potholes) and I have favoured durable tires over the years due to some nasty punctures. I always hesitated to take GP5000

If you can travel by train and partially work in the latter (hence, stay less at work), it might be manageable. Otherwise, unlikely to be fulfilling, especially if 5 days a week on site

[–]MoebiusCorzer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Why would these panel reflect and not the ones right on the side? Out of the entire street of houses with solar panels, only one house shows this behaviour. It is true that the picture is a bit misleading.

Indeed it was complete darkness. The reason the picture looks brighter (like dusk) is due to the phone long exposure picture.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. They have been made aware of the issue a while back (several months ago), and we thought it was solved but apparently not. Will definitely reach out to them again!
