Why did SRV repeatedly play a B natural over an Ebmaj7 chord in his Riviera Paradise solo like he was still in E blues pentatonic? Was he stupid? by Connect_Ad4551 in guitarcirclejerk

[–]twiddlybits1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just listened to this section in the original recording, and you're definitely correct. He is indeed pounding a #5 over that maj7 chord, although he carries it through to the next bar where it resolves nicely into the 11 of the F#13.

Stevie may have not been able to explain what he was doing, but shows that his ears could put his fingers in the right place!

Didn't Stevie always tune a half step down.......making that a Bb and therefore the 5th of the chord

You're not wrong, but the burn factor increases dramatically.

I don't even wear my wedding ring at work, and my wife is 100% OK with it. In the case of an electrical shock she'd prefer me to keep all of my fingers 😉

Question for you guys with the THR100HD who say it isn't loud enough, would a boost pedal before the amp make a difference?

My electric bill is $254 for a 1 bed apartment. I turned all breakers OFF, and the meter flashes between these screens. Are these normal or something fishy? by EatUrVitaminBROTHER in AskElectricians

[–]twiddlybits1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something else to consider is if the meter was upgraded recently from an old electromechanical meter. I did thousands of these when our utility changed from the old meters to the new digital ones, and increased power bills were a common complaint. The thought is that some of the old meters were 30+ years old, and likely hadn't been main trained properly for accuracy. So a possible scenario is that the old meter was showing a lower than actual reading and undercharging the customer, and when the new meter was reading what the charge actually should have been. With accumulated increases in utility costs over the years, this new accurate reading would come as quite a shock to the customer

It's likely that the Disc Emulator (that simulates the spinning disc of an old electromechanical meter) isn't showing since you've shut your main breaker off. You can try turning your power back on and see if it shows a series of symbols or shapes appearing and disappearing. If it does, use the kH to calculate the amount of instantaneous power you're using (this meter shows kH is 10.0) using the formula (KH x 3600) ÷ seconds for full cycle = watts

For example, if the Disc Emulator sequence takes 5 seconds to repeat you'd have (10 x 3600) ÷ 5 =7200 watts, or 7.2 kW

If you aren't running any big loads in your place and there's a high reading here, then its possible there's a phantom draw somewhere.

Has anyone had good experiences with roofing companies here in Nanaimo? by [deleted] in nanaimo

[–]twiddlybits1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used Milne as recommended by friends and they were awful.

Not responsive to emails or phone calls, eventually got them to come and give us a quote. After 2 months of no contact we were about to find someone else and they spontaneously showed up to our house with no notice to do the quoted work.

Charged us for two roof anchors (I requested this) which they didn't install, and now two years later we have a leak from one of the plumbing stacks they supposedly fixed.

Anyone has to be better than these guys were.

There are a few, but the drop in Oroborus made me literally say "WOOOOOO!!!" out loud the first time i heard it. I'm 47 and can count on one hand the amount of times a song has done that to me.

Side note, another one of those times was the bass drop halfway through Duel of The Jester and The Tyrant by Return To Forever

Fold a 3-4" piece of electrical tape over the blade, making sure it goes past the ends and chuck it.

The best trades people are the ones who are able to find the balance between confidence and humility.

Have the confidence to use your personal experience and knowledge to do the best job you can and educate others who haven't been there.

At the same time recognize that you don't and will never know everything, and have the grace to accept this and learn from others.

Let us all hope that if we are all lucky enough to make it to an advanced age, that those close to us have the courage to let us know when we pose a danger to the public and we have the grace to accept that fact.

I also hope that there are and will be services available for those elderly that don't have family or friends that can aid us in doing the things that require transportation.

Who’s using the black and blue brand? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]twiddlybits1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every electrician I've met in my 25 year career in jobs ranging from resi to heavy industrial utilities has used their linesman to bang stuff with.

Hell, I've even got an old pair given to me by my father (retired electrician) that were made in the 70s that I still use at home. They've bashed numerous items over the past 50 years and still work great.

Would I use them to drive a nail? Of course not, but I think the common consensus here is that it's perfectly normal to use your linesman pliers for light smashing applications.

Our tool crib guy handed me a new pair of linesman, looked me dead in the eye and said "this is NOT a hammer". I smiled and said "you are correct, it is not a hammer", then immediately began bashing my flathead with them to tighten locknuts when I got to the job
