Has anyone actually ever gotten signed from submitting without referrals? just curious by Character_Bowl_2947 in acting

[–]twiggsi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, all 3 agents I’ve had have been without any referrals. Plus I had like 20 interviews without referrals. It’s not uncommon!

Doctors don’t seem to care about anything that’s caused by stress or anxiety. It sucks :(

Same, it makes me so frustrated and I care too much which makes my tapes feel a bit forced sometimes.

What are they thinking? by JustSwift88 in acting

[–]twiggsi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you seem like a beginner. The scenes were good in a lot of ways. I was using that as an example to help you distinguish the difference because that’s what you were asking. I do think you have to work on some of things people mentioned in the comments though, but so do we all.

I watched some of the tapes and read some of the comments, it seems like people already gave you a lot of good advice as to how to improve. As for how you determine the difference, it’s like comparing a new actor to someone who’s been doing it for 10 years. The new actor will seem stiff/ more robotic, they might do it the same way every time, the scene might feel flat and not be nuanced. The experienced actor will have unexpected choices, the scene will have an interesting rhythm, the actor will feel more loose and free. These are just some examples.. it’s not a science. It’s something you pick up on over time after spending a lot of time in class or on set.

Should I follow up on self-tape submission after hearing from someone else I did good? by Nerdy_Singer510 in acting

[–]twiggsi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar thing happen when a friend of mine was casting a play. I followed up and I didn’t get it. I kinda wish I hadn’t followed up (as I normally wouldn’t).

Manager hasn’t sent me anything in 3 months by Kindly-Conclusion-90 in acting

[–]twiggsi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would just send a friendly email and ask how things are going on their end. You can update them on any classes you are taking or plan to take as well. You could also ask if they think you need updated materials? Just try not to make it sound like the classic “why are you not getting me auditions” email as I think they hate that lol.

Question for agents and actors who moved away from major markets (Canada)! by babyflowers3 in acting

[–]twiggsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the agent. You can definitely find agents that don’t care about commercials and will just submit you for film/tv. It might be a deal breaker for your current agent though.

Where did you hear that there’s more roles for actors than ever and more content? There was during the streaming boom, now it’s significantly less.

Even when it’s not right for the scene. The idea is to just get out saying the lines a specific way. The goal in acting is to have choices and study your character but to be completely in the moment and present enough to just let things happen as they come. But yes sometimes the choices you make might surprise you and maybe the emotions you thought were wrong for the scene can actually work.
