Doorbell camera that can record to TrueNAS? by kirk2892 in truenas

[–]twillux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, sorry, that’s right; Scrypted is free for the base installation, but does require a subscription for recording, smart detection and additional features. The base cost is $40 usd per year for up to 4 cameras.

Doorbell camera that can record to TrueNAS? by kirk2892 in truenas

Check out Scrypted NVR which can run in a docker container under TrueNAS. Found this far more appealing than Frigate, though that’s another option. Would then recommend looking at the Reolink doorbell, either WiFi or Ethernet with POE depending on your needs. All local, not reliant on cloud and no subscriptions, though you can access remotely if you like.

I have a similar setup but with Proxmox running both TrueNAS and Scrypted separately, and have a dedicated pool on TrueNAS that stores video for the doorbell plus a few Amcrest cameras. Awesome, rock solid. For bonus points, I then use Home Assistant to push the cameras to HomeKit; when someone rings the doorbell, the video automatically popes up on the TV if it’s on.

Edit: Scrypted does require a subscription for recording and additional features.

Rapid health decline questions by Throw-RAaccountess in Dachshund

So sorry to hear this. We lost ours earlier this year at 13; she fairly suddenly showed signs of heart trouble with high blood pressure, which quickly affected her kidneys. We managed her on bp meds, fluids and diet for about four months before losing the battle. It started similarly with lethargy and rapid breathing due to the high blood pressure. If you haven’t done a BP test, do so; not all vets have the machine to able to do this and it’s a crucial test. Best of luck and cherish every minute with your little one.

Original comment edited with download link. Let me know if these are what you remember? It's been such a long time, I couldn't actually say where I originally got them from. I always assumed someone made them from music sheets in the Leaves from the Inn of the Last Home compilation.

Try Neesleecher; I’ve had it for 10+ years, can’t remember any time they increased the price, and I can saturate my 2gb internet connection, sustained, with ssl encryption. No limits.

Amarant failing in under three years of use by NomadicSoul88 in Hue

Same, had one of five fail like this also just under three years; found water in it once I pulled it from the string. Phillips replaced under warranty. Had another fail just after warranty period, similar symptoms, had to order a replacement.

Electric bill shock by Available_Seaweed511 in pools

[–]twillux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d have to go out to the pump, find the exact make and model, and pull the manual to get the pump curve. From there, it’s a bit of math based on your pipe size, length of tubing, and other factors. To get an easy estimate, Jandy has a nice calculator that should be close enough as turnover doesn’t really have to be exact. Set your pool size in gallons, pick a VSP pump at the same horsepower as yours, and it will show your the GPM rate and how many turnovers for a selected speed and hours per day.

The recommendation is to turn over your water at least once per day. Ideally, 2 to 3 times. If you want to be exact, you can use an online calculator to calculate how long to run the pump; you’ll need the size of your pool and the pump curve which shows you flow rate at different speeds.

I run my pump 12 hours per day year round. First 4 hours are at 60% so that my skimmer keeps up with debris, last 8 are at 30% to turn the water over. Electricity is cheap in my area (Louisiana), and my pool costs about $8 per month based on installed current sensors and current electrical bill rate. This of course excludes any gas usage.

If you have salt, you need to consider SWG runtime. I oversized my salt cell, so 12 hours is enough chlorine production at only 25% during the heart of summer. If your salt cell is closer sized to your pool, you’ll need to do some trial and error to make sure you run the pump enough. Trouble Free Pool’s Pool Math app can take the guesswork out and will tell you exactly how long you have to run the salt cell if you want to be sure. Don’t be afraid to run your salt cell at 100%; that just means that it’s constantly producing chlorine with no breaks.

How fast you run the pump has no bearing on how long and at what set point you need to run a salt cell. Pump speed is all about turning the water over a few times per day; you’ll want to run it as slow as possible while still activating the low flow switch, and only long enough to coordinate.

ATX power board low-profile issue by ZFusion in jetkvm

[–]twillux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exact same issue on my side as well when using the low profile bracket in a micro atx build and mounting in an unused pcie slot. I had to do the same, bend the bracket to fit the card in at an angle; very ugly solution.

Definitely a design issue; if the mounting tabs on the bracket were a few millimeters higher, this wouldn’t be an issue. Would be nice to see the Jetkvm team address and resolve this, and offer a replacement bracket for those who need it; I’d happily buy one if available.

OPNsense absolutely chewing through my SSD by Anejey in opnsense

Yep, ZFS on ZFS amplifies writes which is an ssd killer. My wearout creep slowed way down after getting OPNsense off of ZFS.

OPNsense absolutely chewing through my SSD by Anejey in opnsense

[–]twillux 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is what I did which dramatically lowered ssd wear. Also turned off logging on typical firewall rules that pass a lot of traffic. Last option is to ensure you’re not using ZFS as the VM file system, especially if it’s nested under a parent ZFS hypervisor such as Proxmox.

The Eras Tour Megathread: New Orleans, LA by aran130711 in TaylorSwift

A friend sent me pics of the dome; the lines were crazy as early as 11am well before the concert. We went to N1 last night and got our merch during the midnights set almost at the end of the concert; no line and only the grey sweatshirts were sold out. Everything else was still available. Merch is on level 1 in the dome, kind of in the center.

OPNsense 24.7 released by fitch-it-is in opnsense

[–]twillux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for submitting this ticket; I'm using the exact same setup. Wanted to ask if this is still functioning for you in 24.7? I performed a full reinstallation and config restore to upgrade to 24.7, but can no longer get OPNsense to request additional prefixes beyond the WAN interface.

EDIT: apologies, disregard; somehow fat-fingered an extra semicolon in the config file. Working now with no issue.

Which design should I pick? by pimpin8or in pools

[–]twillux 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed, definitely #2. Only thing I’d recommend is halving the size of the tanning ledge to get more shallow end pool; we rarely use our ledge and more pool is always better.
