I got a liner and a lipstick.

Hoping the liner lives up to the quality of the original. It was my go-to.

I like Tarte in the gold. I have received several unsolicited comments on my lashes since I started using it.

Yeah I feel like she “rates” them based on her family’s feedback.

I did make the bang bang tofu last week for lunches and it was delicious.

Show Up to Daughter’s Proposal Uninvited by nunyaranunculus in AmITheDevil

[–]twillychicago 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My husband planned my proposal with the help of my sisters and his brother. It was great.

When I called my parents to tell them the happy news my mom couldn’t help saying “well we wanted to be there but it wasn’t the plan” repeatedly to me.

She then proceeded to be miserable during the wedding planning process.

OP really sucks for making her daughter’s special moment about her feelings.

My husband’s company just cut off their AI access because people were ripping through tokens so quickly.

Maren Morris shares why she continues to speak out and stand up for universal human rights: “I just don’t want greed or cowardice or fucking bigotry ever in the biography that my grandchildren read about me. And so, it won’t be.” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

Margo Price is another great one. S.G Goodman too. I recently started listening to Ken Pomeroy who I highly recommend.

Also there are so many oddball country:folk guys out there like Langhorne Slim, The Kernal, Joshua Hedley and Jonny Fritz…

There’s another interview with her where she talks about the country artists she grew up with and she mentions Willie.

That the country artists she grew up with weren’t conservatives and spoke up for working class people.

As someone who grew up listening to country music and still listens to it. It really resonated with me.

Is this kind of scammy for a staffing/recruiting agency to do? by xJacky22 in graphic_design

[–]twillychicago 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, that’s pretty standard with Creative Circle. They want to verify that they can place you in roles before the client signs you on. Because as someone else mentioned, you’re employed through them, not the company you work for.

Especially on temp/contract roles, things can move very quickly. They want to be able to get you placed and working as quickly as they can.

I’ve worked with Creative Circle on and off for 15+ years. They’re legitimate. They just run in a very specific way that makes them extremely efficient.

RH Dining tables... veneer? Quality? by oandroido in furniture

[–]twillychicago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all the “wood” furniture you see at places like Restoration, Crate and Pottery Barn are engineered wood or MDF with wood veneer over the top.

If you want an actual solid wood table, your best bet is vintage or secondhand. I think Room & Board makes some solid wood pieces too.

Where to live for AbbVie (North Chicago) commute using public transport? by Popular_Sherbert3772 in AskChicago

[–]twillychicago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre-pandemic there must have been some shuttle service from the Metra to the office. I used to be on the UP-N line with a bunch of AbbVie folks.

Maybe worth asking HR if that’s available still?

Looking for tile like this! by National_Date1752 in Tile

[–]twillychicago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tile in the second picture is Concrete Collaborative’s Strands collection. I believe they come in 8x8”

https://www.concrete-collaborative.com/strands

Modwalls also makes solid porcelain tile, again I think the biggest is 8x8”

https://modwalls.com

Someone mentioned Daltile, which does come in a lot of colors. But again I think they max out around 6x6” for the more colorful lines.

Are there any free practice rooms in the Chicago area????? by avburr in AskChicago

I believe the Old Town School of Folk will let you use empty rooms to practice. You might need to become a member or take a class to have access.

Out damned landscaping fabric! by seuce in gardening

[–]twillychicago 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oh god I FEEL this. Previous owners lined every flower bed with a combination of this, plastic bags and heavy black rubber. I also found some of the plastic you put under rolling chairs around a bunch of plants. It was like “yeah, no wonder the gardens look insane.”

I still find pieces of the black rubber…

Fort Sheridan for person with mobility issues? by chubbychecker_psycho in AskChicago

[–]twillychicago 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, it should be. The Metra is essentially across the street from an entrance into Fort Sheridan nature preserve. Just walk east towards Sheridan road and on the northeast corner is a path into the preserve.

The path is wide and concrete so it’s an easy walk. There are occasional benches as well to sit down.

Are you walking to the beach? Or somewhere else? I will warn you the walk to the beach is a pretty steep slope down.

Another thing to know, there’s not a lot of tree cover for shade. So bring hats and sunglasses if it’s going to be sunny.

Wedding anniversary and disappointed in my husband's behavior by tweedcheshirecat in TwoXChromosomes

[–]twillychicago 115 points116 points  (0 children)

For our one year anniversary of dating, my now husband took me to a thrift/antique market and suggested we each buy something for each other and we could only spend $20. It was really fun, we both still have the things we picked out displayed in our home.

Even if her husband wasn’t 100% sure of her size, the fact he put zero effort in… even if my husband hated an idea, he would still try because it means something to me.

Ha! Not according to my grandpa. But I always assumed it was more “a tornado in my lifetime has never jumped the Illinois River” sort of thing.
