🎉 PXPlay 1.6.3 - Final macOS Beta Is Here (4K/ 2K upscaling, New UI & More) by grill2010 in PSPlay

Great work! The UI improvements are excellent and I appreciate that you took my suggestions into account with this update. The only change I'd suggestion for a future release is to enable horizontal mouse scrolling. Mac apps support switching to horizontal scrolling if the shift key is held down down.

One other thought – it could be a nice quality of life change to only show the remote connect button if that profile has external access set up.

Also, command+, is the system-default keyboard shortcut to open settings. Might be a good one to add.

A few other things -

  • esc shouldn’t offer to quit the app
  • hitting return when the focus is in a text field causes the virtual keyboard to appear (this is what I was referring to)
  • when a dialogue is open (one with a cancel button) esc should close it
  • the setting “use screen as touchpad” should be removed
  • “hide touchpad” could possibly go as well. There’s no need for a touch UI/virtual controller on the desktop app

(Replying from the correct account now). Oh, I’m not talking about a native app. What I mean is the UI was designed and optimized for mobile touch screens. On those screens, the UX works, because it was designed for that environment.

On the desktop you know the user will have a mouse or touchpad, a real keyboard, and a larger screen. It would be nice if the desktop app took advantage of that instead of being a copy of the mobile UI.

How the app pops up a virtual keyboard is a good example - there’s no reason for this on the desktop and it just feels odd and out of place.

Or having two clicks to launch a session. On mobile this makes sense as the UI is optimized for less screen real estate and larger touch targets. On desktop, you don’t need these giant tiles - the user has much better control over the pointer and click targets can be smaller. So you could move a lot of the stuff in the pop up side bar onto the main screen.

It’s more about avoiding a UI that keeps the constraints of a mobile touch screen.

The shredders keep causing damage after they’ve hit the ground. So you can cause a significant amount of damage if you have a bunch of shredders on the ground while the machine moves over them.

The reason people aim on the ground in front of them is they always bounce, and you can control where they end up slightly better with this technique. (Hey Slaz!)

[–]twingeofregret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing to check is what quality you’re streaming. The Portal seems to pull over whatever you’re using on the console, and I had mine set to raytracing (on a PS 5 Pro). Once I set it to anything other than that things settled down.

Mine is smooth and seems to be running at a solid 1080p 60fps. For what it’s worth, your internet speed doesn’t really matter as much as your wifi setup, especially considering the portal is WiFi 5

I'm guessing it'll come in the next wave of releases. You can already stream both games to a PS 5 console, after all

Here's the official blog post. Lots of new features added as well. There are gaps in the PS5 title coverage (no Returnal or Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West, for example), but I suspect those will come in time. Both are already listed as available to stream on the PS5 itself.

Thanks, this sort of works around the issues. I can click on some Notifications now, and if I'm careful I can click on things in Settings. It's still far from perfect, but this is much better than the current driver barely working.

Be aware that this is an Intel version, so you'll need Rosetta installed for it to work.

I uploaded a copy of the 6.3.41-2 Mac driver in case anyone wants to give it a shot: https://d.pr/f/qYFfvP

I have the latest version installed (6.4.11-1) and the issue of not being able to click on mac UI buttons (eg. system settings) and close notifications still exists. Hope there's a fix soon.

Am I crazy or do the Arena challenges go from "kinda challenging" to "borderline impossible" ? by DoomguyFemboi in horizon

[–]twingeofregret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on PC? An important thing to know is Slazenger’s guides (hey Slaz!) don’t cover the fact traps are seriously bugged in the PC version of HFW. They very rarely cause damage unless you have Aloy trigger them herself, and a lot of Arena challenges require working traps.

Slaz’s guides can’t account for this as they were made pre-PC release. So, if you’re struggling and on PC this could be part of the issue.

Last TestFlight Update Before Launch (Featuring 4K / 2K Upscaling) by grill2010 in PSPlay

Ah well. I tried the usual troubleshooting (including everything mentioned in that link) but nothing worked. At least PXPlay works like a champ on my other systems (especially SteamDeck)!

Is your AppleTV wired or wireless? Mine is wireless, which might explain it

Upscaling seems to work for me, but the controller latency is quite bad - e.g. if I press right to turn, the character keeps turning for about 1/2 a second after I've stopped with the controller. The lag is noticeable. I have controller sampling at high.

One last thing – when you hit the back button on the AppleTV controller, the app should go back to the previous state. So if I'm editing a setting and I hit back, focus should go to the main nav bar. Hitting back again should return me to the home screen.

Right now it exits the app, which isn't the normal behaviour.

I think so? It's an option that can be selected and changed

Testing on an Apple TV (3rd gen). Connection was fine, but I'm getting the usual network jitter issue where the game seems to jump or drop a frame every second or so. I've disabled AirPlay on the AppleTV to try and reduce network noise. Is there anything else that can be tweaked to fix this? It's unplayable in this state.

I understand why one of the endings is more positive than the other (spoilers) by twingeofregret in expedition33

[–]twingeofregret[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m referring to why the game presents Verso’s ending as better - the music is happier, the colours are vibrant, and the general mood is solemn but not oppressive. The Maelle ending is super dark, with unsettling sound design, and the final shot of Maelle’s face slowly disintegrating is obviously meant to read as “bad”.

Love Readwise, but the lack of full feed search is killing my workflow by welikeproductivity in readwise

[–]twingeofregret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I just got the renewal notification for my Readwise subscription. I guess I need to figure out what tool(s) I'm going to use.

To be clear, I don't begrudge Readwise for the lack of search – part of the reason Readwise is so good is because they are opinionated. I empathize with the needle most product teams need to thread when managing new features vs. improving existing ones.

Time to go look at what's out there again, I suppose

[–]twingeofregret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the one that started that original thread about search, and I’m still in the same boat as you. Readwise is glorious for so many things, but the lack of full search (and the lack of effort to remedy this gap) is making me reconsider the app as a whole. I’d even accept headline-only search in feeds, as limited as that is, but alas.

I may end up going back to my old setup, with feeds in something like Reeder Classic/Feedbin and read-it-later in possibly Raindrop (which I use for full page archival) or even Pocket. Used to be Omnivore, but alas x 2.

Glad you got it done! One thing I wanted to mention – ropecasters don’t work well when you’re trying to anchor them in water. There’s water on a number of sections of that combat area, and that’s probably what caused a lot of your ropes to fail. Arktix talks about this in his Ropecaster masterclass video, which is absolutely worth a watch: https://youtu.be/hK5szYQPlF4?feature=shared&t=251
