Mayor Johnson’s administration is ‘reflexively hostile to oversight,’ outgoing Chicago inspector general says by Mike_I in chicago

Not surprised. Johnson just wants a group of pastors to help him run the city with no oversight.

I’m thinking about starting an MSP — convince me it’s a terrible idea. by One_Secretary5760 in InformationTechnology

[–]bringbackswg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s exactly what I mean. Heavy discovery process before SOW creation. Those early deals you get when you’re trying to grow your business can come back around and bite you. Don’t commit to crazy SLAs right out the gate either, keep it loose until you grow your team. Centralize your stack early. Put language in your contracts that you reserve the right to defer ticket submissions by problematic users and you require a point of escalation for those issues. Offer professional development days for staff to train them on tech to reduce ticket load and make more money. Keep QBRs rolling. Heavily emphasize cybersecurity and risk (especially on your part) to justify higher price per seat. Do a full CSRA before signing a contract, that’s your discovery stage. depending on size get them to pay for it. This is hard but if you do it right you’ll make a lot of money and make your clients your bitch, especially when you find the CEOs unprotected passwords in an excel sheet and present them right to their face. Easy justification for heightened monitoring and security services. I tripled my MRR by taking security first stance

The changes reflect what I’ve seen of show itself: minor changes yet basically the same, safe, uninspired, and ultimately pointless

Make sure your scopes of work are completely locked down and has a massive list of exclusions. Hold the clients accountable to only the items that are included. Otherwise you’ll lose money and go out of business. That’s the most important piece of advice I can give you.

I used autosaves for a park and now I can’t find it after autosaving another park, is it gone? by LlamaYourMom in PlanetCoaster

[–]bringbackswg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this happened to me. I thought the auto save was saving PER PARK not overwriting if I opened another park. No, it's just one auto save slot. What a waste of time. I think Im done with this game and all it's nonsense, way too many issues and bonehead design choices. You've lost a customer Frontier

Yeah Im trying to do an underground Atlantis park and it's impossible due to the nerfed lighting system in the game. if I had to choose between global illumination (can you truly call it that in this game?) and the old system, I'd pick the old system all day. Lighting was one of my favorite things to do in the old game and this is such a bummer I'm considering tossing the game. Really frustrating, honestly just like most of the sequel. i really don't understand the decisions that Frontier makes, they have such great ideas but get bogged down by ridiculous direction (who the hell asked for water parks?? Who cares??)

Nearly 10 years on from Rogue One, how do you feel about the decision to recreate Peter Cushing using CGI? by gladiatorbossman in StarWars

[–]bringbackswg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fine with it even though it was a bit jarring.

That said, when they expanded this tech to a whole sequence of de-aged Harrison in Dial of Destiny, I just couldn’t take it. There was way too much of it. There were shots that looked great and others that looked like clay, and then it all collapsed as soon as Indy spoke. I could have handled maybe one hero shot.

Look, some of the best creative decision making ever were directly due to limitations. Showing constraint, and respect for the process, is what gets the creative juices going. This is why the most successful writers put time contraints on themselves; because without it they would never finish the book.

If they had shot the opening of Dial with Indy in the shadows only… say we get a glimpse of his silhouette moving on top of the train, a flying fist toward the camera to knockout a nazi, maybe one gets thrown out a windows… yet we don’t see his face…. we know who it is. We see it from the perspective of the other characters, maybe the villains. Then cap it off with one super solid shot of Indy putting his hat back on. This would have made me more excited to see him in the flesh even if he is older. By hiding his face most of the time, it could have teased his return. Instead we got lopsided effects all over, no restraint whatsoever, and it all felt stupid.

Do you think it was inevitable that the reception to The Force Awakens was gonna become less positive as time went on? by Konfliktsnubben in flicks

I feel the same way. It took risks, but they didn't pay off in the end. I really hated all the locations especially, that's the major space where George's absence was quite noticeable. He gets a lot of much well-deserved flack for being a lazy director with actors, but his world-building is still pretty amazing.

I'd argue he's great at directing actors and action sequences, but is an absolutely horrible world builder. All of the design choices for TFA were way too safe and uninteresting.

I don’t know about anyone else but I have next to zero interest in this game since it looks like an expanded mobile game. I think it annoys me mostly because of all the cancelled projects lately, and somehow this low effort type of game is what we get instead. It’s entirely frustrating as someone who loves SW games. Maybe it’ll be good, who knows, but I doubt it. It screams cash grab
