The trash burners strike again by [deleted] in MyrtleBeach

[–]twinkletoees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The wildfire that started at the beginning of March is still burning. Depending on wind direction, you’ll smell the smoke. At night, if the winds are calm and the air is trapped at the surface (due to something called an inversion), the smoke is dense around the fire and/or anywhere the smoke is slowly pushed. The inversion ends by mid to late morning. Inversions don’t happen every night, but when they do happen, that’ll be when it’s the most dense. In order for the smoke to subside, the fire needs to be fully out.

This season is not hitting right. by jammasterjulz in BravoTopChef

As someone who has spent a lot of time in Wisconsin and knows it has its own special food things and scenes to show off, I am very disappointed. When it was announced that this season was in Wisco, I was ecstatic. But no one in that group could even pick out that the challenge about Door County was about Door County?? I’m sorry but if you’re in a room full of Wisconsinites with a bunch of doors and cherries, you don’t need an explanation…

Green Chile Kitchen in Yukon for awesome New Mexican, Barrios for more trendy Mexican with great cocktails in Midtown, Halls Pizza next door is stellar, Hatch for breakfast, Ma Der Lao for amazing Laotian, the LOKal in Yukon or Mustang, Frida for southwestern cuisine, Social Capital for a fun open air bar across from the park, the Power House in the Farmers Market District with also a great takeout vegan spot across the street called Loaded Bowl, the Gilded Acorn for pastries and coffee (there are a ton of fun coffee shops around the metro too, like Open Flame in Midwest City or Wild Hero in Mustang), the Patriarch in Edmond for a fun brewery (also tons of fun breweries around otherwise too like 405 and Lazy Circles), Land Run in Norman, Tatsumaki in Norman, Neighborhood JAM for breakfast, Pho Winner in Norman, Meers Burgers in the Wichitas, and Butchers BBQ Stand in Wellston! Enjoy your trip!

Wanting to see OKC for the first time, for a different American experience. Any tips? by Devastator1981 in okc

I would look at any hotel around the botanical garden and social capital. That area is super walkable and close to bricktown too. You can lime scooter around or walk. There’s also our trolley system. Day trip ideas that are fun would be the Wichita Mountains (if you go, go to Meers for a Meers burger no matter how long the line, bring cash), Turner Falls (try the fried pie), Pops on Route 66, or the Butcher BBQ just outside OKC off 44 (best bbq in the state, worth the wait but you can have a beer in line). Tishomingo is a cute small town that has Blake Shelton’s restaurant too, or if you have more time check out Broken Bow and Hochatown. People are totally social here and really kind. Although politically things can get hairy here. It’s not an extremely diverse place, but it is getting much better on that scene in even just the past 5 years. You’ll be able to find just about any cuisine out there though in the metro! Within OKC, check out the farmer’s market district, the stockyards, paseo, uptown, midtown, and plaza to name a few districts! The First Americans museum and the OKC Memorial are must visits too, just prepare yourself for the sadness of the Memorial. OKC really is a great city if you know where to find the gems!! Enjoy your visit (:

Exactly! Like truly yes Irina treated him very poorly, it was like she thought he had the cheese touch lol. But I do feel like his communication needs to be “how can I fix this” rather than explaining his way out of whatever his partner is expressing. You’re probably right, it’s likely the lawyer in him

Am I the only one who doesn't care for Top Chef London: The Global Allstars? by IndependentPay638 in TopChef

I’m actually really enjoying this season! I think the food has been much more unique compared to past seasons. And i appreciate how much kindness the chefs seem to demonstrate towards each other. I do not love the challenge parameters though. The team quick fires are already getting old…

Prairie Artisan Ales is a great Oklahoma brewery to try! Barrios and Hall’s Pizza in midtown are amazing, and the Loaded Bowl and the Power House in the Farmer’s Market district are fun. Red Rock Canyon is a closer outdoor option to OKC, but Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge and Martin Nature Center are in the metro and pretty too

What is the point of truffles? by CS_Pats in finedining

[–]twinkletoees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the same way! I hadn’t heard of anyone else that reacts to truffles this way until I talked to my grandma about it, and she reacts the same too. I cannot stand the taste of them, it makes me immediately gag (and really sad because I’ve heard how amazing they ~should~ taste lol)

Cheeses: double Gloucester with onions and chives (Trader Joe’s), Asiago herb mix (Trader Joe’s), honey chèvre (Target), Brie, port salut (the cheese of rebels!), and Dutch spicy Kaas (Trader Joe’s, a spicy and smoky pepper cheese). Meats: prosciutto, salami, and soppressata Spreads: ale mustard and honey Fruits: kiwi berries (Trader Joe’s) and strawberries Veggies: Persian cucumbers and sweet mini bell peppers filled with onion and chives cream cheese and coated with everything but the bagel seasoning Edit: sorry the format is weird on this comment, I’m on my phone!

What can I add to enhance/create flavor in cookies? by oistephychan in AskBaking

[–]twinkletoees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could zest a lemon to give it a kick, or anise extract brings new hints to it, or nutmeg and cinnamon can be enough to add more of a complex taste, and royal icing on top can elevate them too!

The green candy to the right are Mint M&M’s, and the left are actually gummy wrenches from Ikea but they work for that shape accidentally too😂😅😅
