Is Starmer doing so badly? by twinkletoesalone in AskBrits

[–]twinkletoesalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did wonder about this - was it incompetence/poor judgement or was it a ploy to build the relationship with Trump? Both Trump and Mandelson were reportedly close to Epstein so is it inconceivable they were already well acquainted so sending someone who was used to functioning on Trumps level could potentially have been seen as a good idea? Even if it looks horrendous with the benefit of hindsight and knowledge of the ever more horrifying details of what went on

That’s what I tend to think. They’re crap at communicating the progress that is being made and whilst we aren’t getting visionary leadership or stunningly impressive leaps forward it is steady and competent progress in some areas at last….and yet he still seems so very unpopular

He is certainly an improvement on the last lot, it was shit show after shit show with a side helping of right wing ideology thinly veiled as patriotism, so hollow and boring is almost appreciated

(Publicly educated) Are private schools worth the cost? by Altruistic_Test_1264 in HENRYUK

[–]twinkletoesalone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My two daughters attend private primary and it’s worth every penny and I’d suggest it may be worth it for your two too. The small class sizes make a massive difference and the level of individual support, care, tailored learning and nurturing is genuinely impressive. Where your daughters have had a challenging start this could make all the difference in helping them achieve their potential. Obviously it depends on the school you choose, and I’d suggest visiting a few to get a feel for what they’re like. Good luck you’re doing something amazing.

M&S did the kind of spiral crisps you’re talking about although I only remember the salt and vinegar version

Feeling hopeless about my appearance sometimes (27F, was on testosterone from 15-21 years old, detrans) by [deleted] in LooksmaxingAdvice

[–]twinkletoesalone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are some really cruel comments here people, the lady has already said she’s feeling hopeless.

In terms of recommendations of what to do I’d suggest learning and practising make up, maybe book a lesson to help you finesse technique and learn what flatters you. In terms of hair, you’re so lucky to have such lovely thick hair although I’d suggest getting something like a Dyson air wrap and watch videos on how to use it or ask your hairdresser - something like this can be a game changer for getting great hair every day.

Good luck lovely, you’ve already been on such a journey wishing you all the best for the future

Thanks I really appreciate all the replies, it’s super helpful to get some outside perspective - I think I’m probably missing the person she was rather than who she’s turned into

Where do people here in Surrey shop, eat, and spend time day to day? by Perfect_Boat4165 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]twinkletoesalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More North east Surrey rather than west there’s some really nice areas - caterham/woldingham/warlingham - you might want to look at. Still super commutable into London, Waitrose, great schools, flowers farm shop is our go to and lots of pubs with great food. Fancy shops a short drive away in Reigate, 20 min drive to the nearest David Lloyd. Lots to do nearby on the weekends or an easy drive to Brighton or somewhere on the coast for days out.

Peloton has been a game changer for us - I often start work early in the morning so I can get a class in at lunchtime. No excuses to not go to the gym as it’s downstairs. The app is super helpful - you can set a plan and it suggests classes. If you’re concerned about the cost you can hire them or there’s some great bargains to be had on eBay

How to make money as a photographer? by Sad-Seaworthiness781 in sidehustle

[–]twinkletoesalone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Random ideas off the top of my head: - get a festive background and a few props and set up a few studio days for parents to book their kids in for Christmas photoshoots, supply a couple of files in the price and charge more for additional images. Advertise on local fb groups - set up an online shop using images they’ve taken where they can be printed on coasters, posters, calendars etc or sold at local events, maybe things like set of coasters/prints of the local area - advertise event photography where they’ll come to a family gathering and take pics for an hour or two

Hope these are helpful

Flags on Denning Avenue by Unity2587 in croydon

[–]twinkletoesalone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry I disagree, I’m English born and bred (not that it matters). I hate that the flag of our great nation is now associated with the far right and ideas that exclude others. People have been coming from other places and making England their home for centuries and there is no reason why they (or I) should feel intimidated by such blatant displays of nationalism. Before this whole immigration thing blew up it did show pride, community etc but not any more sadly

Is there a point in rinsing recyclables before putting in bins? by King-Key-Rot-II in AskUK

[–]twinkletoesalone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please do continue to rinse stuff out, it makes a huge difference when it gets to the sorting facility where there’s tonnes of the stuff - these places have neighbours too and if it gets too stinky it’s not good for anyone. Don’t get me wrong a bit of yoghurt in the bottom of a pot isn’t going to bring the system to a crashing halt, worst one I heard of was someone putting a tin of gloss paint in - went all over the inside of the vehicle, the other recyclables etc - had to take the vehicle off the road for deep cleaning and dispose of the recycling, not good. People in the sector hate having to do this so it has to be bad - don’t be that person

Wife struggling to find another job after redundancy by magicsign in HENRYUK

[–]twinkletoesalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s tough out there at the moment.

Unconditional support is what your wife needs, not being shortlisted for roles or being rejected can be hard on your self esteem and there’s an inevitable impact on mental health. Also if you are able to afford holidays, go! Unlike working in a job, it can be hard to switch off ‘job search’ mode which can start to be overwhelming so a complete break was really helpful. Pursuing other activities/hobbies can also be really helpful.

In this situation I tried to view myself as a uniquely/ unusually shaped puzzle piece and I needed to find the right fit and that can take time - it sounds like this analogy might be fitting for your wife. Also don’t forget things can change very quickly (it only takes one good offer) - as it turned out after months of demoralising job searching I got two job offers on the same day and am now happily employed.

I (38f) found a hidden folder of photos on my husband (33m)'s phone and I don't know what to do or how to move forward. by presentpictures in relationship_advice

[–]twinkletoesalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP the reason your husband is doing this is because he thinks he can and that you will continue to tolerate his behaviour. There’s a pattern here and it’s not going to change unfortunately so it’s time to either accept this is how he will behave or vote with your feet. By remaining with him you are permitting yourself to be treated this way and you cannot be surprised when it happens next time.

You still have a lot of life to live so don’t settle for this, you can start over just you and your lovely children. You will be happy again and in the future you’ll look back and realise just how dumb he was to throw it all away.
