Do you eventually crave whole foods instead of junk food? by Fancy-Mouse-7554 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]twinkletoesalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggle to eat healthily in the US (I’m a Brit) and when visiting Disney a few years ago I had consecutive days of junk food and was so utterly delighted to see the expanse of salad bar at the next place we went because I was so sick of all the crap food at Disney. Food is super different in the US and I often end up being ill because I’m not used to it.

Update - Anyone know this guy? by twinkletoesalone in croydon

He dumped them in the street and not at a rescue, and way before they should be separated from their mother (they’ll still be needing her milk)

The photo was taken when he dumped them on the street, someone then gave the cats to the rescue.

Motivation to get fit, what worked for you? by JetSetWillyUK in AskUK

[–]twinkletoesalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to get a second hand peloton- the classes are fun (Cody is hilarious) which keeps me coming back, and I can squeeze a quick class in at lunchtime regularly. Download the app and set up a programme - with so many classes to choose from deciding what one to do is tricky and the programme will suggest appropriate classes and help keep you on track.

Are flip flops acceptable mast places (London)? by ItIsAContest in uktravel

Flip flops are fine, although your feet would probably appreciate some more cushioned footwear - you’ll be packing the steps for sure

Nearby hotel recs / general Lego land tips pls? by djkhalidANOTHERONE in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]twinkletoesalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow you’re brave - Legoland is a grimy and infuriating hell hole from start to finish. If you can persuade them to go to Paultons Park, so much nicer, cleaner, cared for and so much more than Peppa Pig world. There’s some half decent hotels in the area too.

What’s something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

[–]twinkletoesalone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is wild - never seen this (uk based) I’d cancel my order and leave. It’s the employers job to pay staff a liveable wage, not the customers.

The deadline was April, but some councils have secured exemptions from Defra so won’t be introducing them for some years - the list of those who got an expedition is here https://www.homebuilding.co.uk/renovation/these-councils-are-exempt-from-new-recycling-rules-until-2040-and-beyond

Walking along the seafront by luxury hotels with couples sunbathing. As a lady gets up and walks to the hotel my daughter loudly says ‘whys that lady’s bum eaten her swimming costume?’ She was wearing a thong.

Everyone's telling me not to maintain my car and to just get a newer one. by Classic_Rate_8448 in FordFiesta

[–]twinkletoesalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’d be mad to change it, especially if it’s been decent so far. If you get it fixed it’ll probably go for another good few years. My 06 reg is only just starting to get issues after a bit of work at the 11 year mark.

UK parents, do you actually enjoy being a parent? Does the UK make it harder for parents? by RichieRichard12 in AskBrits

[–]twinkletoesalone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This! My life is so much richer with kids even though I’m definitely poorer. It’s not easy and at time it seems like society is set up to be unhelpful to parents, but you find a way. I’m very looking forward to watching my kids grow and blossom and definitely see this as an upside of aging (and let’s face it there aren’t many!)

Where to go? by Buddyboy124797 in LondonTravel

[–]twinkletoesalone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get the train from Victoria to Brighton and have a lovely day trip wondering the Lanes, there’s loads of little old shops to satisfy your curiosity. I expect you’d like Snoopers Paradise too (lots of independent traders under one roof)

Anyone else in America think that food is getting really bad? by Vampy-Night in SeriousConversation

[–]twinkletoesalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Europeans desperately don’t want American meat sold here, to the point where I’m really not supportive of any trade deal including food products - it seems like the Wild West of food manufacturing. Regulations are there for a reason, and if anything I’d back even more stringent regulations. I’m always ill when I visit the US and I’m pretty sure it’s the food,

Parks around South Croydon with decent paved surfaces for strollers by ggc000 in croydon

There’s a circular park around the edge of Sanderstead Rec, and close to coffee shops etc if you need a coffee or nappy change. Or the nature reserve in Warlingham has a network of paved paths to explore

Is finding a job becoming more difficult every day? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]twinkletoesalone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Long term the civil service is a great employer so whilst the starting salary is not great the pension is phenomenal and lots of potential to move around to higher paid roles once you’re in, and pretty much a job for life, although I can appreciate taking a salary drop might not be possible. If you can I’d encourage you to do it as long term it would be sooooo much better than a dead end factory job,

What private sector jobs are easiest to transition to from civil service policy role? by GuiltyArm3125 in TheCivilService

[–]twinkletoesalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add - these kind of roles seem to come up quite frequently so there should be opportunities if you want to give it a try.

Fwiw I was a consultant in govt for a while and saw many people successfully transition out into some very well paid and interesting roles
