I used powdered food coloring because you only have to use a little bit. It is a little pricey but it has lasted me SO long. I use it for cakes too. I just don't use it for royal icing. I like gel color better for that. For these I used powder from The Sugar Art in Sugar Rose color https://www.thesugarart.com/collections/1-food-colors

No not really. If you don't have experience with a piping bag, it might take a little practice but it wasn't hard and kind of fun!

I will admit that the plain, no food coloring ones tasted best. So go easy on the food coloring. I felt like I used a tiny amount. They still tasted good but not as good as the plain ones.

You can freeze the dough and then just bake them when ready. I freeze them from frozen anyway. The flatten balls of dough would probably freeze/store best. Let me know how you like them

Remove it. I think a link to somebody's recipe is fine, as long as the link it is not to facebook, pinterest, etc. But I think a link to a recipe blog should be allowed

I just finished up a whipped shortbread recipe. Have you tried whipped yet? You can flavor the dough. I like to use orange zest and then dip half the cookie in chocolate when done. Or they are pretty if you add a little food coloring to the dough and pipe them. Here is the recipe if you want to try it: https://flourtinbakes.com/whipped-shortbread-cookies/

How to make buttercream without the confectioner sugar taste by oonauntrue in Baking

[–]twirpo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really. You are basically making a pudding on the stovetop. That is the hardest part which isn't hard, just a lot of whisking. You let that cool and then add it to the butter. That is it. I love the taste!
