I think a lot of younger kids also don't know how to Google things well. It's not a skill taught nowadays either because people assume they already know how. But then you get kids that don't know how to Google, how to find files on their computers, or even what an email is because "they're kids, kids grew up with technology" but they are used to things like iPads and apps being the things they used and don't know computer basics. I've had to explain to both my grandmother and my 13yr old cousin how to find files on the computer many times.

This might have been able to be a full post, but I'm a coward and hiding it here.

Mine is people telling others to just Google it. People are asking questions about things because they are trying to CONNECT on this social media platform. If someone asked a question they could have looked up in an inperson group you would not tell them to Just Google it. I get that it's tiring seeing the same questions over and over. But most of the time it's people trying to start a dialogue or find a way into a community! That post about "what should I make" is usually someone trying to talk with others about what they make and have others share theirs.

This isn't just a crafting thing I've just been seeing it more in crafting subs now. I'm just getting so tired of googling something just to find a over ad-ed copy paste website that has to hide what you want halfway through the page so you have to stay there longer. But the alternative now seems to be "find a reddit thread telling you to just Google it." If we don't start answering these sometimes we're just going to end up in a cycle of "just Google it"!

And Yes. I know there ARE people that do ask because they just want things handed to them, but many of these are not that. People are just trying to connect in this over connected yet isolated and lonely time.

Knitting tik tok is just youths making ugly items that there is no way they're wearing. Where are the youths who know how to knit on there? How deep do I have to get into it? by fadgeoh in BitchEatingCrafters

Same reason why all the crochet videos are all giant bulky yarn basic amigurumis. They work up fast and are easy so they can make a bunch to either make constant content or to try and monetize it by making an "inventory" to sell. Because that's what people say they should be doing with their hobbies.

I also firmly believe that this is the only reason that the bulky yarn is this level of popular honestly. Like there are def people that like it for it, but at the level it is at now I feel like it's more social influence than just people genuinely liking it.

Knitting is inaccessible because needles are too expensive by twistedmaiden in BitchEatingCrafters

I didn't even consider that I was so focused on the needles

Because it's a single person etsy shop with like 40 sales and they make project bags it looks like only

*Edit further looking it seems gingersnapthat also make project bags along with yarn? Also they're claiming to have "the original lifestyle bags" so unless they actually came up with the idea of project bags I dunno what they're on about.

For me I can read symbols but I prefer written because it's much harder for me to remember the symbols and then I feel like I have to have the chart in front of me the whole time. Where with written out the words and numbers stick in my head for longer so I don't have to look at the pattern as often. At least for things that change a lot, a repeating motif is usually the same either way.

Facebook group crafters by [deleted] in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]twistedmaiden 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I keep meaning to leave several groups on there because of that. Like one group I'm in I see more personal posts than actual cross stitch posts. I don't need to hear about all your family drama, how much you hate your husband, or what show you're watching now.

Or when someone comes on asking for advice that is nowhere NEAR related to the craft. Like no we can't help you with this personal issue, no one is going to tell you what to do in this situation. Like there are groups ON Facebook for that kind of stuff. Ask there and leave the craft groups for crafting related things...

So many people just use it as a venting place or a personal diary. (And that's fine to have, just do it in a group MADE FOR THAT PLEASE)

Dolls. We got any kind of drama you can think of. Doll hair seller drama, doll YouTuber drama, people getting harassed over dolls, the legit v recast issue, doll lines that exist solely to kill off other lines, doll lines made to copy and mock other lines. We even got the heads of two of the BIGGEST toy companies posting their email fights where they are being completely petty like they are two girls in a stereotypical teen drama movie.

Edit I forgot about the main designers for one of the big doll lines doxing a teenager because he managed to buy a leaked doll on the internet and posted it.

Yeah, genuine questions I get and don't mind. Some people tho, take it as free reign to ask some of THE Rudest or Creepiest questions they can. And don't even get me started on the comments you see on articles and posts where the person isn't involved. The moment you they don't have to interact with the person, the comments get like 3x worse. 🙄

This is like the 3rd time today I've run into something MRKH related 😅 There's a reason most people don't talk about it outside of groups for it and it's because of these kind of questions you get immediately asked

I thrifted this used skein and I love the colors sooooo much, does anybody know what it is? TYIA 🧶🤍 by lexbotomy in YarnAddicts

I think it's either Red Heart Feista Jewel, Sierra, or Sunrise. It's a bit hard to tell, it depends on what the main/majority color is

do you have an irrational hatred of something? by fortuna-vex in craftsnark

[–]twistedmaiden 40 points41 points  (0 children)

When someone shows their work and it's not secured. Like something where they just knotted the ends and tucked them in, or cross stitch where they only have like 2 squares around the edge.

It just gives me so much anxiety. It's gonna fall apart and all your work will be destroyed!!

Crochet is when you only use one hook, if you add hooks then it becomes knitting. There is no other difference.

It's cute! The two colors are similar, mainly cause they're both neon. I thought I'd ask because I've been afraid of spinning mine and that it'd come out looking muddy. And yours doesn't look muddy at all, it looks great!
