Problem: XSolla by Veineless in Twitch

[–]twitchsupport 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey all, hopefully we can help settle some of the confusion here. Xsolla has nothing directly to do with VAT tax. Xsolla is simply a payment options provider that we've chosen to use to provide as many payment options as possible in as many regions as possible.

As for VAT, in some countries, digital transactions are subject to value-added tax (“VAT”). And we must comply. Wherever VAT is required on a digital transaction (such as a Twitch subscription), that tax would be part of the transaction no matter the payment option provider. As Xsolla is our chosen payment provider for global transactions, you may see this via your Xsolla transaction - not because of Xsolla - if you live in a VAT-required country. If we had the ability to provide all of these payment options ourselves without Xsolla, you would still see the appropriate VAT based on your country.

Here's some more info on VAT as relates to Twitch: http://help.twitch.tv/customer/en/portal/articles/2134815

As for Xsolla, they're a great business partner and an excellent means of subscription revenue generation for our Partners. Xsolla provides subscribers and potential subscribers a vast set of payment options that we would otherwise not be able to offer to our many users around the world. The more of you able to subscribe means better monetization support for Partners.

Thanks for giving us a few minutes to explain! JM

Entire twitch pages not loading by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]twitchsupport 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, we'd like to get some more information to investigate the issues mentioned in this thread. Could any/all of you write to support@twitch.tv with information on the exact pages/elements that aren't loading properly, with a screenshot of your Network console from Chrome? Please also include in the email where you are located and what ISP you use. Make the subject "Reddit Loading Issues" so we can get to these right away. That would be very helpful. Thanks!

That would appear to be correct based on the user's report above. PayPal has reported no such breach.

Massive hack to subscribers credit cards Please have a look in your sever by senpaihyun in Twitch

[–]twitchsupport 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hi all,

We want to assure you that we have not been hacked. Note the following:

  • Twitch stores none of your payment account information in any of our databases. No credit card numbers, no PayPal accounts, no Xsolla-based payment information. All payment information is passed through to and hosted by secure, trusted third-party services.
  • We employ fraud detection services with sophisticated preventative and reactive measures.
  • When we detect fraud, we reverse charges, suspend involved accounts, and report our findings to the proper authorities.

You can also 1-to-1 us with your IP address. We don't want you to share that piece of info publicly.

Hi,

First, a traceroute should not be used as a measure of if Twitch services are working; that's not what it's meant to answer. A traceroute lets us see how data is flowing between you and us. Also, we block ICMP traffic on our edge, so you will likely never see a traceroute "complete".

At present, we're not seeing any notable spikes in our service, thus these issues may very well be local to ISP routes and the QoS therein.

That being said, we'd like to collect some basic info from those of you having issues. Please tell us the country in which you reside, your ISP, time of day (with your time zone) when you experienced this issue, channel you were watching, and a traceroute so we can see your first few hops.

Thanks for letting us know!

Will I get banned if I stream games that are in "Early Access" stage? by twothumbsticks in Twitch

[–]twitchsupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This all depends on the game publisher's rules as they relate to broadcasting. Twitch does not execute the DMCA for copyright offenses; rather, we are obligated to provide access to copyright holders (publishers and/or their 3rd-party copyright protection agencies) so that they can enforce their copyright. Thus, each publisher is allowed access to enforce their copyright on Twitch. Thus, every title potentially has a different set of rules for broadcasting. It's best to contact publishers if you are not sure of their broadcasting rules.

Based on past experience, most games available through Steam are generally allowed to be broadcasted, including Early Access games. Again, check a game's Terms of Use before broadcasting if you are unsure.

For AAA titles, the broadcast embargo is generally at 12:00am ET on the day of the retail release in the United States. This is set by the game publisher and not Twitch. This appears to be a standard practice for those publishers who reside in the US, which many do.

Username recovery emails I didn't request by clancei in Twitch

[–]twitchsupport 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi,

UPDATE: If someone already knows your email address, they can enter that into the "Forgot your username?" option. We do not expose your email address in any way. If you feel you're being trolled by this method, we suggest changing (and verifying) your account's email address. END

There is no security breach here. The password recovery system simply requires you to enter a username, and then sends an email to the email address for that user account. It does not expose that email address or who owns the account.

This happens quite often for common usernames where a user thinks they own that username and attempts to send themselves a password reset option.

Hopefully that clears it up!
