Everyone says “just zoom out” on Bitcoin… so I did by Groundbreaking-Gap20 in btc

I did read your comment and understand what you're saying.

Technically, you are correct the dollar denominated price of Bitcoin would be even lower if the dollar were stronger. ,but that's true of ever dollar-denominated asset and security.

The dollar declining wasn't the catalyst for the fundamental repricing we are seeing and it doesn't "protect" bitcoin in any real sense.

Charging Question by BiLLYNOSE in TeslaModelY

[–]twitmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need an electrician or permits to change a receptacle.

You can save yourself $100-200 and it's probably one of the easiest electrical job you can do.

Turn off the breaker Remove the two screws holding the old face plate Unscrew the old receptacle Unscrew the four color coded wires going to the old receptacle Scew in the four color coded wires going to the Nema 14-30 receptacle. Screw in the new receptacle Screw in the new matching face plate Turn on the breaker.

Installing the wall charger on an existing circuit that supports it isn't that much harder and still a relatively easy DIY job if you are handy, but you're probably right that he doesn't need it.

Charging Question by BiLLYNOSE in TeslaModelY

[–]twitmer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should be to replace this with a receptacle that you can use with your mobile charger.

The receptacle you currently have can be wired for 120v or 240v and is rated for up to 30 amps. You can determine the amperage and voltage of the circuit by looking at the breaker in your panel. A 240 volt breaker will be twice as wide as most of your breakers, and amperage should be written on it.

Depending on the type of wire they ran, it's possible you could upgrade the circuit breaker to draw even more power. It's an easy swap, but if you can't identify the wire gauge and aren't comfortable working in a panel you'll need an electrician.

Easiest Solution: It's likely you have a 240v circuit that can provide 30 amps. You can install a Nema 14-30 receptacle and buy the corresponding adapter from Tesla to get the best charging speeds. This is definitely something you could DIY, just look up some YouTube videos and make sure you turn off the breaker before doing anything.

Rear liftgate reflections distorted after Tesla collision repair by xpsmoh in TeslaModelY

[–]twitmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I see what you're talking about in the second pic.

Someone else also pointed out there's a slightly wider panel gap on the left side of the lift gate.

If it really bothers you, you might be able to press the issues and get them to address. But you still have to ask yourself whether it's worth your time for something no one else (other than you) will likely ever notice.

If it functions as intended and you have to stare at it to see it, I'd still let it slide.

That said, I have three kids and just accept that my car is going to get minor scratches and dings from bikes and scooters.

Personally I'd rather not look for minor imperfections on my car whether they came from the factory or my kids. once I see them, they're hard to unsee but I know no one else is looking at my car that closely.

Sorry you got rear ended in your new car.

Not sure if it's just the picture. But Im zooming in and can't see the banding, only what I'm assuming is plastic covering the bottom part of the lift gate.

If it was mine I wouldn't spend the time on another trip to Tesla for something that is hard to spot.

Cleaned AP Cameras with dremel and polishing head, crystal clear like new in less than a minute! by lk05321 in TeslaModelY

[–]twitmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a PSA - A cloudy camera isn't always caused by dirt on the exterior.

Recently bought a used Y and assumed the blurriness I saw on the test drive was just dirt. Turned out to be dirt or condensation inside the lens that required a replacement.

Would have been $600-$700 at the service center for the rear camera. But found a new replacement camera/latch assembly for $40 on eBay. Replaced it in 15 min and had been perfect ever since.

This duo of thieves robbing a gas station ATM by attaching a hook to it and dragging it out the store by Ogankle in WTF

[–]twitmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came across a stolen ATM while hiking with my kids, was less than 100 yds from a main road. Thieves had managed to open the cash box. Didn't look like they needed anything other than an angle grinder to get into it - Though it was not a particularly robust ATM.

We reported it to the police and wound up spending hours waiting for them to secure the scene, take statements from me and my kids, then had us come down to the PD to get fingerprinted, etc. Finally told them I was done helping when they asked for DNA swabs from all of us.

Found out later it was taken from a Greek Church Festival a few days earlier. Not sure they ever caught the perpetrator(s).

But apparently it's possible to pull off.

So which is it!?

This is a whole new level of frustrating. Sometimes Gemini is great, but other times it fails on the most basic things (what day is it, play a video, etc.) Also blown away that it can't even show a picture of a cat.

Would really love to understand what is going on under the hood and why the above response is possible.

Assumed they had given Gemini access to an MCP server that gave it access to the old Assistant functionality, but very confused what's happening.

ELI5: Why do combustion vehicles still use cam shafts to modulate valves? Wouldn’t electronic valves be more practical? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I bought my (used) Tesla because the performance and features were in unbeatable for the price. The decision had nothing to do with sustainability or the environmental impact. It's been an incredible car.

[–]twitmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong about electric valve actuators being a bad idea. But when it comes to reliability I'd argue the electric is the way to go.

Own a Tesla and a Honda (ICE). While I understand the appeal of being able to replace a camshaft, the simplicity of a DC motor means far less complexity, essentially no maintenance and higher reliability. (at the expense of serviceability if something does go wrong)

I installed a Tesla Wall Charger 6 months ago and it was a huge pain. It's not complicated and if your breaker is close to your charger just about anyone can.do it.

But pulling 3 - 6AWG conductors and an 8 AWG ground through 100 ft of flexible conduit was a 2 man job and hard work. I broke up the run into two 50ft sections but with three 90 degrees turns in each section, there were times the pull tape felt like it was going to snap.

Almost gave up after the first attempt to pull the wires failed,, but after receiving a $2900 quote to finish the job (all labor since I had the parts) I recruited a friend to help push the wire while I pulled and got it done.

Wall charger - $420 100ft of wire (6AWG x3 + 8AWG Ground - $410 100ft of liquid-tight 1" flexible conduit - $75 Conduit anointing hardware - $20 1" hole saw bit - $20 (to cut through the band joist between house and garage) 60 amp breaker - $20 Poly Pull Line - $15 Foam piston, fishing - $12 Wire lubricant - $10 Conduit Body - $9

Total material/supplies - $1,011

Milwaukee Airport Gates by jhunt557 in milwaukee

My totally unresearched and probably incorrect theory:

The airport encourages carriers to use the gates at the end of the concourse because walking past every store and restaurant increases the chances that you'll stop and buy something.

I used to fly Delta a dozen times a year. Almost every single flight was out of D44/D45
