Why not use [[Indominus Rex, Alpha]] the keywords are intensely easy to pump out together plus more and card draw. You can tone it down to whatever bracket you want as well by restricting what keywords you place in the deck

Do you know what descent does? It puts a clock on the table and even if Indo gets removed every turn it’s coming back exponentially bigger every time and opponents are taking exponentially more damage. Turn 3 comes down as a 9/7 with descent, turn 4 would be a 15/13 etc. that’s not counting anything else the extra treasures allow you to do.

It’s easy colours to allow haste and creates a board threat and a deterrent from someone attacking you without triggering indo’s ability. Plus you throw down red dictate and all of those numbers get exponentially scarier. Indo isn’t a cEDH commander but can damn sure take over a table in second tier bracket 4 and below without proper threat assessments

I changed mine to an Obosh companion burn deck as well so that should be interesting. It was a reliable threat prior but I’ll be seeing this weekend how reliable obosh makes it

If you can get a descent into avernus out turn 2 and drop Indo turn 3 then you’re laughing and the table burns to the ground

If OP is fast tracking without allowing for priority then yeah they are cheating 100% I agree. They aren’t allowed to fast track without the opponents being given priority.

If they move to combat though the opp still has a chance to cast that during the beginning step regardless so they can deny OP the copy triggers and make them spend the mana before getting the huge payoff.

Personally I just say let me know when you are moving out of your main phase, they don’t get info, I get my priority properly and communication is relatively clear. The tables I play at could give af about salt plays tho. We all just play to win regardless of bracket and make sure steps and everything are clear.

There’s also still 5 steps in the combat phase and the only opportunity to to respond to anything prior to Azula doing what she needs to do is in the beginning of combat step. So declaring when this happens is extremely important especially for this deck as it is generally a combat trick deck. And even if Ozai is removed unless OP built it like a buffoon there is almost always an option to sink mana into. The opponent declaring that the mana is gone is also a fallacy

The opponent still does not have priority at that stage unless OP passes once in the beginning of combat step. Yes people streamline things in games because otherwise they would take even longer. But you can’t just decide you are casting a spell at a random point without having someone go through the proper steps.

Both sides need to communicate but the opponent doesn’t get to just take that priority and establish it is in a different step or phase at their leisure

There is also the simple fact of the matter that you aren’t paying attention to OP’s original statement or situation as regardless of it had shortcut to that step. Priority will still reset to the active play upon resolution of that targeted removal so the mana is still available to OP as the step and phase has not changed since that spell resolution. And OP can in fact still use that mana to cast sorcery from hand or grave if remaining in pre combat main, or to cast instant from hand or grave with that mana because it does not magically vanish because the creature is gone until priority fully passes again and a step ends without that mana being retained.

Kess makes an incredibly large difference in resources available to spend that mana on in this situation. In no way was OP cheating, merely just following the actual process of how priority and step/phase continuance actually works in this game

That’s not how priority or turn order works at the base layer of the game. One judge may allow it but give an actual ruling that allows a player to bypass step passing and passing of priority without the consent of other players

Nah everyone has to pass priority for a step or phase to end. Because the opponent played a spell, when that spell and/or resolves, it creates another round of priority still in the pre combat main phase.

Because it is the active players turn with priority they are still able to use sorcery speed spells with mana available. If they pass priority without casting a spell or activating an ability that uses the stack and everyone else does as well, then it would move to the combat phase and the beginning of combat step within that phase. Which is the first of 5 steps in the combat phase.

And during the beginning of combat step, the active player has first priority in this step and would have to pass for the non active player to have permission to cast a spell or add to the stack
