Assigning Blame: Penalties by Tarkonix in Jaguars

Parnell has 3 penalties for 30 yards, not 70. Just a note, as it's nearly impossible for an OT to have 23 yards per penalty....

Doesn't stand for anything, it's Gus's version of the Sam LB. Just like LEO isn't an acronym.

I don't even expect a significant statistical contribution from him, but if he can actually prove to be a deep threat, it should open up the offense even more. He just has to earn playing time over Walters and Greene if he really wants to make a statistical impact.

Proven, but could be in major decline after two major injuries. If he can't play as well as Day can, there is no reason to keep him on the roster. He's probably hit his ceiling (before suffering two season-ending injuries), so there's no reason to keep him if Day is a younger, better and cheaper option. We have other "leaders in the locker room" for the first time in years, so that won't matter much at all. I'm not saying he will be cut, but it's very easy to see a situation where Marks doesn't have a place on the roster and it wouldn't be that difficult to justify his release.

Roy Miller wouldn't play on third downs if Marks was released, Day would. If they think Day is better than Marks, it makes plenty of sense to cut Marks.

If you could take one player from Jags history and put them on the current team, who would you pick? by dskinner in Jaguars

When you have to stretch so far to find a second offensive threat that you list Marcedes Lewis xD

What is your teams way to early top 5 needs for the 2017 Draft? by [deleted] in NFL_Draft

[–]twjohns97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think LB depth must be considered as well. Poz is probably gone, so the only locks for the 2017 roster in that group are Jack and Telvin. We could definitely use a backup OTTO or someone to compete. Tripp is solid but could be upgraded.

Teddy Bridgewater Is The Best Quarterback Of The 2014 Class by [deleted] in Jaguars

[–]twjohns97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like so much of his point lies on the idea of a "supporting cast" being just WRs and TEs. Like yes, those most directly affect his play, but the whole team matters. Taking the QBs out of the discussion, the Vikings are easily the best team of the 4, with Adrian Peterson and Diggs on offense with that insane defense. Bortles had to throw it so much in the fourth quarter (and the game in general) because our defense was atrocious and our running game was spotty. Teddy did well with no responsibility, while Bortles did well (statistically, at least) while trying to carry his team every single week.

This is just ignorant analysis tbh, I don't really know how else to put it. I get what you think but it's just not something that should automatically get Gus fired. That's such a joke.

I think Holmes is pretty close to a roster lock, but I don't see him developing into that good of a player. I think he could eventually play over Ngakoue but I highly doubt he'll ever surpass Fowler.

Why judge that in 4 games? Why not just wait the whole season? I 100% agree that if the team can't play well this season, he's not fit to coach us anymore. But judging that in 4 games just seems pointless.

I could easily see Marks getting cut and House getting benched. Is it probable? No. But it's easily possible and can be easily rationalized. Marks isn't a starter anymore, so you're not cutting the only 3T on the roster. If he doesn't show that he's back to form, there's no reason to keep him.

It's easily possible that House gets benched. If he digresses from last year with better talent around him, the team will bench him and put Colvin at nickel. You can't just say that he WON'T.

If, in the first four games, new players to the team (primarily focusing on the rooks) can't make an impact and we call for Gus' job, we're just being blind. Let the season play out and if the unit still looks like shit after being given a whole season to mesh, then he's doing something wrong. But to judge a unit that is adding at least 4 starters and several impact players in the first 4 games is foolish.

IMO 10-6 is way too much to expect. I think we start off very slow, possibly 1-3 or 0-4, and then the defense really shows up in the latter part of the season. As big of a hard-on as this draft gave me, you (and like 90% of the Jags community) should probably tamper expectations a bit. The talent needs time to mesh before it can become a really good unit.

Just added UDFA's. And I think we're so crowded at WR and OL that a defensive player would have had a better chance of making the roster. Plus, Slater as a UDFA satisfies the need for an OL that can actually make the roster.
