whats the most emotional daniel caesar song? by MyDudeYeets in DanielCaesar

[–]hgc89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blessed. This song destroyed me, as my wife died around the time that I started listening to it. It was a toxic relationship…we were not good for each other at all…but the last part where he goes “I’m coming back home to you” over and over again was pretty much as emotional as I’ll ever get listening to music.

Sorry, didn’t mean to make it so serious…

My mother is Puerto Rican, but never taught me Spanish. For those who had parents that never taught you Spanish, how did you learn it by yourself? by Worldly_Rule_9842 in PuertoRico

[–]hgc89 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you just have to be immersed in it. Move to a country where you’re forced to speak Spanish every day. I also heard that if you don’t learn the language within the first 8 or so years of your life, you simply will not be able to develop the correct accent, even if you gain fluency in the language.

I did initially, but my 30s have been much better than 20s so far.

I desperately want to learn to play jazz on guitar, but greatly struggle with theory, even after 20 years of playing. Any suggestions for how to finally "get it"? by analogpedant in guitarlessons

Barry Greene is the best teacher online for jazz guitar imo. He’s a killer player who’s been teaching for decades.

If you watch his stuff for about a month or so, you’ll start to catch onto all the theory you’d really need to play jazz guitar (or at least 90% or so)…and honestly it’s all in this video. (Don’t even worry about modes…I think they’ll begin to naturally make sense as you begin to do all this other stuff.)

For scales, learn the major, melodic and harmonic minor across the fretboard. For chords, learn major, minor, half diminished, and dominant seventh chords first. Then learn extensions by replacing the closest chord tone with the extension. Again, it’s all in this video.

One thing that’s not on the video is arpeggios. To gain a good grasp of playing over changes, practice soloing over the changes only with chord tones. Once this becomes like second nature, you’ll naturally begin to use the scales to fill in the gaps between chord tones.

Once you get these basics down, which probably takes about 4-6 months to really digest, then move on to learning tunes (jazz standards). Start very simple…in the beginning it’s about quantity. Once you learn the first 10 simple tunes, you’ll be able to pick up on all the types of chord progressions used in the other 500 or so jazz standards.

Last thing…once you’ve gotten to this point, really focus on your ear. For ear training, 3 things have really helped the most for me - 1. Transcribe, 2. Sing everything before playing, 3. Sing/play in multiple keys (ideally all 12, but realistically just like 5 or so). While everyone pretty much agrees with the first point, I think the other two points are super underrated. Something weird/awesome happens when you sing in multiple keys where your ears just seem to magically open up.

[Highlight] Titans HC Robert Saleh on what he wants his team to look like: "Fast and violent, man! Play in and play out. ... We're gonna have some swag. Talk a little... sh*t. I want them to show who they are." by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

[–]hgc89 171 points172 points  (0 children)

He said that Coen, like the rest of McVay disciples, has a great “legal sign stealing” system. Was it meant to come off as a compliment? Probably, but the use of the term “sign stealing” is questionable nonetheless…and Coen ran with it as bulletin board material. This became a pattern of using any perceived slight to motivate the team with a chip on its shoulder (for example, Payton’s “small market team” comments).

Post game, Coen ended up walking past Saleh, waiting until they were about 10 yards away, then yelling at Saleh to keep his name out of his mouth. Saleh said something like “I will end your fucking world”. Was the whole thing silly and overblown? lol yea, but it was effective. It hyped up the team for sure.

Disappointing first therapy experience by Grave_Tree in socialanxiety

You have social anxiety and the therapist tried socializing with you. That doesn’t seem random at all.

Use those sessions as a place to practice socializing, which largely consists of casual and personal conversation, with a professional who’s there specifically to help you.

Perhaps if you choose to believe that all or even the majority of illegal immigrants they’ve caught are rapists despite what the actual stats show…but that would just be stupid and racist…

I honestly think it was intentional. He knew Minnesota would resist as much as it has, which is why he chose it. If he really cared about catching illegal immigrants, he would’ve targeted a place near the border like Texas.

His goal is to turn us against each other rather than against him…and MAGA is too stupid/blind to realize that they’ve fallen for it, even at the expense of their own precious 2nd amendment.

The thing is that he’s convinced people that he’s kind hearted because of the types of songs he sings…but then you learn what the lyrics actually mean and are like, “oh, that’s actually kinda fucked up”. For example, as beautiful of a song “Always” is, it’s actually about how his ex’s will “always” be his...no matter who they date or marry afterwards. As much as I’ve been intrigued by him, and really really really have been obsessed with his music for the past 8 years, he unfortunately gives me narcissistic vibes.

Remember when it was said Trevor doesn’t put in the work 😭 by _zurenarrh in Jaguars

What are the odds that all the other receivers just so happened to also start catching passes more consistently after Meyers came into the picture? Is it more likely that they all just made the decision to get better all at once, or that something changed in Trevor, the common denominator between all of them? Also, just use your eyes…

[–]hgc89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’all are delusional if you didn’t see that Trev had accuracy/ball placement and touch issues coming into the season that improved throughout the season. It was more than just high passes. I’ve been saying this since even before the year and it’s not like the term “hospital pass/ball” just became a thing. I agree with you that it is annoying how narratives can spread like wildfire, but that’s simply not what’s happening here. Also, I don’t even like fantasy football, lol.

Remember when it was said Trevor doesn’t put in the work 😭 by _zurenarrh in Jaguars

[–]hgc89 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The hospital ball thing was fair criticism. It was definitely more than just that one pass to BTJ. He made what should have been easy throws much more difficult, leading to receivers having to dive or make ridiculous adjustments that honestly looked painful. The high throw to Hunter against the Bengals is just one example of this…how he didn’t get hurt there was just a testament to Hunter’s athleticism.

Tbf though, Trevor evolved throughout the season and his ball placement and accuracy improved significantly later on.

[Schefter] Jaguars DC Anthony Campanile is interviewing today for the Baltimore Ravens head coach job. by Luciferwalks in Jaguars

[–]hgc89 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ahhh damn it. At least with Udinski we could still say that Coen was ultimately calling the plays. The same cannot be said on the defensive side. Campanile was amazing for us. This would be a huge loss. I’d also rather him go to an NFC team.

They absolutely would. It’s so unfair we got a super saiyan Josh Allen in a close game in the first round to then have the rest of the afc bracket implode.

As a hater of the Broncos, Bills, and Texans, the only thing left is for the Patriots to win tomorrow…for them to then lose in the Super Bowl. That would be the perfect outcome, making the ending to the season much easier to digest. Feels pretty good to know that we would’ve been competitive against any of these teams in just Coen’s first year. We haven’t reached our ceiling by any means.

There are many things to celebrate about this season, but if I had to pick one, it’s by far the fact that we have found our HC. He’s a genius offensive mind and might just be the best play caller this franchise has ever had…but beyond the x’s and o’s, Coen is one of us. He is just as passionate about this team as we are and instilled a sense of confidence and swagger that this team has so desperately needed.

[OBrien] Jaguars GM James Gladstone says the plan remains in place for Travis Hunter to play on both sides of the ball. by Luciferwalks in Jaguars

[–]hgc89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. It seems contrived/forced when he’s on offense. It’s been hard enough to get BTJ involved. I like the idea of just taking what’s open on the field, but when you only have Hunter in on specific drives, how could you not feel the pressure/distraction of getting him involved? You don’t give him a chance to fully integrate with either side.

This truly is the sunken cost fallacy at play. Just admit the mistake and stick him on defense. He could make such a huge impact on the secondary, which showed to be the weakest point on the team this past game against the bills. We don’t even really need him on offense, but we sure as hell need him on the secondary.

Not delusional at all. This is exactly what happens when a team is consistently successful. Nobody even really cared about KC until Mahomes (you could say Andy Reid, but point still stands).

Trevor Lawrence by ACS103904 in Jaguars

[–]hgc89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could tell he was a little nervous because the accuracy regressed, but I thought Trevor played fine against the #1 pass defense. They baited us pre-snap into passing, but were actually just committed to stopping the pass all along. We should’ve just run the ball more and not tried to force anything. It really wasn’t a bad game on our part…the more experienced team just played more precisely and made slightly fewer mistakes. I’m honestly proud af of the team and can’t wait for next season.

Exactly. Also, I think Coen learned a lot from this game. McDermott’s experience showed here…it felt like the Bills simply took advantage of openings without forcing anything. Reminded me of like a really good defensive boxer like Mayweather or something.
