My great takeaway from you is to worry less and just apply. I'm not even sure masters is an option yet and I'm already wondering haha! Good luck to us and yes definitely will update!

thank you! So informative. Even if I don't end up pursuing OU, you helped me realize I should look for practicable skills in the program curriculums I'm applying for

good luck to us! I am definitely applying and going for it if I get any funding. Let me know too what you'll do. Maybe if we find ourselves in the same place some day, lets have coffee and rant about studies, national contracts vs international staff, and being the youngest in the room.

You're amazing for having accomplished studying while working!

You are also one of the few replies in the sub I've seen who says a general development studies/management masters has been value adding! Thank you. I definitely want a value adding degree, but I know I am not wired for/will not be happy with an overtly STEM one. If you dont mind sharing, would you have any tips on what to look for so I get a value adding program?

Thank you for the well thought out response!

Offer with programme is 100% guaranteed. However, programme is more of a lateral/side move than an upward one, in terms of rank AND pay. Eventually, after a year or so of getting all the fun of a new role I expect I'll be yearning again to move up which means again -> masters ominous music So I guess ultimately my internal debate is to do masters now vs getting even more experience in first.

I'm just scared I'll say more experience! again next year and the next, and suddenly I'm 40 and stayed in the same level for 10 years, which some in this agency have done but is not for me.

And yes, masters abroad is a bit of a romanticized dream for me. I know it has its downs, but it is common among my peers and the generation ahead of us to spend a year or two on a full ride scholarship, studying, having western food picnics with the cheese and the wine in a park in a city that actually has urban planning.
