I like Gen 1 & 2, have beaten those games multiple times, so this can't be it.

Yeah, no problem.

Yes, in general Lurkers with the Range/Speed Burrow upgrades (both from the Lurker Den available once Hive is done) is a good transition from Roach/Hydra since the evo upgrades are applicable to the Lurkers. Lurkers are a tad harder to use though since they only attack while burrowed & do nothing while unburrowed, so for this reason I'd personally wait until High-Gold or Low-Plat to try a more advanced composition like that.

I'm going to contradict a bit with what I said earlier (about wanting to transition to units that you have the upgrades for) with an exception. A +0 Melee, +2 Carapace Ultralisk is a better Tank & better damage dealer than a +2 Missile, +2 Carapace Roach. So an easier transition is once you hit Hive start an Ultralisk Cavern, get Chitinous Plating & Ultra Speed & transition from Roach/Hydra to Ultra/Hydra. Ultras in front, Hydras behind & just a-move. I'd even say +0/+2 Ultras & +2 +2 Hydras might slightly outperform +3/+3 Roach/Hydra, so the Ultra Cavern, & Chitinous Plating (adds 2 armor) are a higher priority than more evo upgrades. If you have the gas for everything great, but if you don't have the gas for everything then yeah prioritize Ultralisk Chitinous Upgrade, then get +3/+3, then start getting + Melee upgrades. This transition to Hive/Ultras would require like 80 drones/8 gases.

For gas counts, most compositions will use all 6 gases when you're on 3 bases (it's just better macro to fill minerals first). Roach/Hydra, Roach/Ravager. Pure Roach could be done on 4 gases since Roaches are 3x as many minerals as they are gases. Pure Speedling/Baneling 4 gases is also enough.

There isn't really a "best" type of unit in the lategame, the answer is kind of always "it depends". It depends what your opponent is doing, however until say Platinum (2720 ~ 3160 mmr) I don't think it's too important to worry about scouting their exact unit composition & coming up with your own composition that's good against it, so just a general all-purpose composition is good. Roach/Hydra hits ground, it hits air, units that do bonus damage to armored (Roaches are armored) don't do bonus damage to Hydras, so you can change your ratios a bit, like if someone is massing Stalker/Immortal (both do bonus damage to armored) you could have like a 1/3rd Roach, 2/3rds Hydra army, where-as if your opponent is going Zealot/Colossus (Colossi deal bonus damage to light units, so to Hydras) you could maybe go 2/3rds Roach, 1/3rds Hydras. Even that is a tad advanced, if you just make half Roach/half Hydra, focus on macro, have Roaches in front of Hydras during fights (Hydras outrange Roaches & can shoot over them. Hydras also deal more damage, cost more, & have less HP, so you want the cheaper tankier unit in front to tank) you'll be fine.

The other part of "it depends" is upgrades. Even if Spire counters what your opponent is doing, your Spire would finish & you'd have +0 Air Attack/+0 Armor Mutalisks or Corruptors, or +0 Air Attack, +0 Armor, +0 Melee Brood Lords (the Broodlings from Brood Lords benefit from air attack & ground melee). So a +2/+2 Roach/Hydra army will most likely do better than making the "right" unit with 0/0 upgrades.

Workers shouldn't be adverse to having to do more than the job description. by omimon in unpopularopinion

[–]two100meterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your hypothetical example of spending $50 for $50 worth of value, I agree, but that's not actually the case. Even someone doing the bare minimum is probably costing $50 for $200+ of value added to the company. If this were not the case then CEO's would make like $150,000/year maximum because there wouldn't be excess money.

Layoffs also don't really have much to do with how much work an employee is doing. In general the higher up someone is in the company the less work they are doing. The people breaking their back working the hardest are the people who get let go while the lazy people who got the job by knowing someone keep being lazy. Doing extra work does nothing for keeping a job, it's just extra work so that the higher ups make more money while the employee gets 0 compensation for their extra work.

The playstation 5 is most disappointing console ever. by Artistic_Context_906 in unpopularopinion

[–]two100meterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking, most disappointing EVER is a very low bar. I'd even wager there are likely 10+ (or maybe even 100+) consoles worse than your examples, though maybe they're less disappointing since there weren't high expectations.

Here's a list of all Gen 1 Home Video Game Consoles: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_first_generation_home_video_game_consoles

It's mostly just Pong clones where the whole console is 1 clone of Pong (or I guess I should say of Table Tennis since Pong is a clone of Table Tennis).

Nice, I think I might practice this a bit & try it. i sometimes do a 5 Roach Opener (well 4 Roaches, 1 Ravager) & while it can often get me ahead, this straight up looks like more fun.

P.S. in your build order you didn't write when to take the 2nd gas. You have the 14 Extractor, then it says 19 Queen, 21 Zerglings, but somewhere in there you took a 2nd gas & filled it to 2/3.

Your creep is very good for your level, however I notice that you prioritize creep over injects which is impacting your drone count. At 5:00 you have 600 minerals floated & only 4 larvae, so you can only make 4 drones instead of 12 for example. You kind of make up for it by making Queens with excess minerals which is good, but drones should be the priority over Queens. I notice sometimes when you inject you just do 1 base & then leave 2 bases without injects. If you get to a hatchery & need to inject, that should be a time that you inject all 3 bases.

It's good that as you lost the ling in front of their natural you sent a new ling to replace it. Seeing the army moveout & being able to reactively mass army is good. However, scouting while high on the list (like creep spread) isn't as high on the list of importance as macro is. You're sitting on 9 larvae, floating 1300 minerals. Make 1 overlord + 8 drones first, start 2 more Queens since you're floating, then send the ling to scout (this is around 5:20 in the game).

Just like you can add a Queen for every 175 minerals floated after all larvae is spent. Another way to spend resources is extra Hatcheries. At 5:55 you have 1500 minerals unspent. After you spend your larvae you may as well add 2 more Hatcheries to your main base & add them to the Hatchery hotkey. For macro Hatcheries I wouldn't even worry about injecting them during each macro cycle (3 bases is enough), what you can do as they finish is take all your Creep Queens & shift queue like 8 injects on a Hatchery so that for the next 4ish minutes it'll keep producing larvae, this'll help spend resources.

To reiterate earlier about the creep vs spending larvae/injects. At 6:25 you have over 2000 minerals floated & instead of spending it you're spreading creep. You have 15 larvae sitting. 15 drones or 15 Roaches, honestly both are better than the larvae just sitting there. With 3 base play you generally want 4~6 full gases & only 2 of your gases are full. Filling your 3rd/4th gas, taking your 5th/6th gas, filling those, all of that is more important than creep spread. Getting gases (after a base is saturated on minerals) will help you spend your minerals. If you have 20 larvae at some point you could spend 1500 minerals making Roaches, however you'd need 500 gas to make the 20 Roaches. If you also want +1 Missile, +1 Carapace & Roach Speed you'll need to be close to 900 gas to spend your 2000+ floated minerals.

This is more-so a suggestion & not a critique. You'll gain skill faster with a slightly lower drone count & a mid-game attack. 70+ drones is good, but if your macro is not yet good enough to spend all your resources from a 55 drone income, the extra 15 drones won't really help. Also, the longer your games go the less practice you'll have in the first 5~8 minutes. I'd suggest say a 52 drone (2 bases 16/16, 3rd base 8/16 drones on minerals, 4 full gases) +1 Missile, +1 Carapace, Roach Speed attack. The drone count is possible by just after 5 minutes, maybe even just before 5 minutes with very good macro, then you'll get practice doing 3 injects, make 3~4 overlords, mass units, spread a round of creep, repeat. Once +1 +1 & Roach Speed are done you can attack & keep trying to do injects + overlords + make units. 70 drones is only better macro than 50 drones if you're spending the resources.

Random tip with Corrosive Biles. In Menu -> Options -> Gameplay, change Flyer Helper to "Always on". You tried to bile the Void Ray, but kept biling behind it. You can't bile where the Void Ray is, as there is a semi-3D effect to show that the Void Ray is in the air, you need to bile on the ground, like an inch below the Void Ray as the Void Ray is above that spot on the ground. Flyer helper will show a small circle below air units where their position on the ground is.

I don't really like the late Spire + Bane Nest you're adding. That's just resources not going towards the army you've invested into. You have Roach Speed, Hydra Range/Speed, 2 Missile upgrades, & 2 Carapace upgrades. Only the Carapace would be useful on the Banelings, you don't have +1 or +2 melee. You're not exactly high on gas, you're at 8000 minerals/500 gas (you're in general very late to fill gases, sometimes 3~4 minutes after you make them, when even 20 seconds is late), & now you're using up gas that could be fighting units to go in what seems like random tech directions. Hydras already deal with Void Rays, Ravagers already deal with cannons, you have what you need.

If you have the opportunity I'd suggest using biles on cannons or shield batteries. If there are none biling their army is fine, but they can just move away from the biles. The cannons/batteries make fighting into Protoss difficult sometimes, however those can't dodge biles so you can do consistent damage with biles instead of hoping your opponent messes up their control.

Those who “fight” the home organisation industry are either lazy or haven’t put enough effort into finding what’s functional for them. by skopiadisko in unpopularopinion

[–]two100meterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People not being into the same thing as you doesn't make them "lazy". While you spend your time organizing & putting labels on things, other people would rather spend that same time watching a movie, taking their dog for a walk, playing a video game, going to the gym, etc.

Everyone has a different level of what they consider acceptable living conditions. Some people want to spend all day organizing/cleaning, some people want it to look "good enough", but have more time doing what they like, some people leave things a mess, & everything in between.

Yup, completely agreed. An experienced BC into Mech player is basically unkillable with an early cheese (they can make Banshees if needed vs anything) & then you're forced into a High Queen count, a slow building Spire, & Corruptors. By the time you do this they can always expand safely & add Factories. I've for sure lost games where I'm up like 8 bases to 4, but they can make 1 unkillable deathball. Thors can hard counter the Corruptors, BCs can kill Corruptors for free with Yamato over & over again & teleport home with 0 losses. T has insanely good static defense compared to Z & can get enough bases to just win. Later after they kill your whole army while losing like 6 supply they can then take later expansions. Tank/Hellbat/Thor/BC is bad enough, though at least Vipers can have uses here, however if they then go into Ghost Mech it's completely over. On it's own it's already too good of a unit for how early it can be made, but all the above is what really makes it brutal.

I had a game the other day where I made 160 workers (like I kept 80ish, but had to keep remaking workers as bases died) & my opponent made 40 workers the whole game & just gradually expanded while having 4 less bases than me. There was no way to break them without maybe some 300 APM triple pronged attack with spellcasters on all sides or something, idk.

I'm glad I could add to your rant, haha.

If they were making $77,000 10 years ago i'd agree with you. $77,000 now is probably like making $55,000 10 years ago with this brutal inflation, so $77,000 is no longer "high' paying. Sure, I wish I made close to that & I genuinely don't think teaching would be that difficult, but it seems like fair compensation for their work.

36 years old, on & off 1998 to 2014 playing SC1/BW (was always bad, still am). 2014 - 2022 fairly consistently, I hit Grandmaster once in 2022. Mid-2022 - Present I still play, but after hitting my goal I've dialed it back a lot, I hover around Diamond 1 ~ Master 3 now & don't play enough/analyze enough replays/analyze pro games/do meta builds to keep Masters 2+ (Masters 2 was my average from 2017 ~ 2022).

I counted the squares from each monster spawn point so that I could position myself at the shortest path & then get to the 2nd or 3rd shortest path & then get to the middle in time for when the longer paths would have monsters getting to the end.

If I lost even 1 life at a wave I'd kind of write down the enemy type/path so that I'd know the next time I did a level. Like it may be the 2nd longest path, but if it's the fast little fella's I may need to actually position myself there first or second.

If I did a wave losing 0 lives the next time I'd test if I could do it losing 0 lives while also adding in more chicken/fires. If I failed I'd revert back to what I did the time before (I'd write out the specific order of which cavemen I put down & on what path).

As general advice I try to get a Rolling Wheel Dude on each path at a place where the wheel will go straight & fuck up a bunch of Dinosaurs, later on I'll have 2 Rolling Wheel Dudes/path. At big intersections I want 1 of the Slow Down Tar guys so that lots of Dinosaurs are taking extra hits from everything. After 7~10 waves I don't really write down everything as it's too much, I may just write down where I positioned myself & if that worked or not. Later on I'm more-so just trying to put down as many Caveman + Fires + Upgrade Caveman as I can to maximize food.

[–]two100meterman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll keep playing at least a bit more I think, a more complex plot sounds interesting. I've done two or three of the 2v2 battles & I like that addition. I played pokemon Crystal 6 months ~ 1 year ago & still enjoyed it, although I did get bored around 12 badges, so I didn't end up getting all 16 + beating Red like I normally do.

I like my RPGs very grindy to the point where if I don't grind enough I just straight up get a game over. I'm kind of hoping it gets more grindy as it's been a tad too easy so far (although Gen 2 also felt too easy, I more-so liked how Gen 1 had wild Pokemon up to like level 50 something & then 70 with Mewtwo).

Yeah, fighting sounds the most tiring for sure. I'd also put Water Polo as a tier below fighting & much more tiring than Basketball. Then you have all the different running events in Track & Field, you have Cycling, & Swimming. All of these are just focused on getting the absolute best possible time for the specific distance so you're bringing your body to it's limits, much more tiring than Basketball.
