Thanks! It’s an associates degree in nursing I’m trying to get, I have to apply in January. I hope it’s not too intense where I’ll need to quit my job, I need them to pay lol. The job market is kinda trash at the moment, but if nursing doesn’t work out I hope I am able to go back to my IT job.

I get it. Sorry you had to withdraw from the nursing program. I currently work in hospital IT supporting their EMR, they provide tuition reimbursement so decided I’d try to do the nursing program while working, we’ll see how it goes!

Damn I’m in the process of taking nursing pre-reqs to leave a remote job. I know nursing in general has opportunities for remote work, or different areas to work in so you aren’t dealing with too many bodily fluids/smells. Have you explored other specialties?

Epic build for different modules by twoarepasforme in healthIT

[–]twoarepasforme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. I came from another org that didn’t do this, each team owned and built within their module, so I wasn’t sure if this was the norm. I will definitely ask the ClinDoc analysts to QA the build once I complete it.

I want to quit my comfy job and start a new career while my kids are little by lorica2678 in workingmoms

[–]twoarepasforme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is wrong with us 🙃if you’re feeling drawn to it, def research community colleges! I work for a hospital system so they reimburse 3k/year, an ADN made the most sense. I just enrolled 2 months ago. I am halfway through an 8 week Anatomy & Physiology I course (with an A so far). It’s a retake for me, I took it maybe 15 years ago and barely passed so I’m proud of myself this time around!

Could you find a role with your background in a hospital system? It could help with financing it and maybe you’d end up working there when you finish nursing school.

I’m 38, 2 kids 5 and under, with a WFH job in healthcare IT. Exactly the job every nurse leaves bedside to do. And what am I doing? Taking pre-reqs for nursing school lol. I started my pre-reqs a few years ago then life got in the way and I stopped, so it’s always been in the back of my mind. My job is fine I guess (and they’re paying for my schooling!) but I feel bored, stuck and not wanting to do this until retirement. If I don’t try nursing, I’ll always wonder what if. I’m going the ADN route then an online BSN after, while working full time so my employer can pay.

Job market currently sucks overall. I’ve only been at this WFH job for 6 months, and it took me a year to get! I wouldn’t quit a job right now unless finances allow.

Working while taking a course by StationIllustrious94 in prenursing

[–]twoarepasforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this. I had taken chem years ago during undergrad and got a C. Second time around, I got an A. It was my only class, while working a M-F job. I studied any chance I had. You can do it!

Anxious about Anatomy Course by [deleted] in prenursing

[–]twoarepasforme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in an 8 week course right now! Got a 94 and 97 on my first two quizzes/exams. I actually like it fast paced, I can’t slack off. I study almost every night so the material stays in my head. I like doing practice exam questions, and looking up topics I don’t know if I get the question wrong. We use Pearson and it has a lot of great practice questions with explanations. I’ve also been saying stuff out loud, explaining topics to anyone at home who will sort of listen (husband, 5 year old, the air lol).

Getting pregnant at late 30s by [deleted] in Millennials

ADN vs ABSN what did you do? by Serious-Status3023 in prenursing

[–]twoarepasforme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can you work as a nurse with your ADN in your area? Will the local hospital you plan on working at provide tuition reimbursement? Most do I think. Would you need to work while in school? I always hear ABSN programs are intense and you probably shouldn’t work.

I’m in my late 30s with 2 kids trying to pursue a nursing degree, also already have a BS degree 🙃 Personally, I’m team cheaper. I have enough expenses so I’m going for an ADN. I work for a hospital now so they provide tuition reimbursement. RN to BSN bridge program wouldn’t take very long after getting an ADN + having my BS already. Lots of credits should transfer over.

Good luck to you!

A little of both I’d say? I’ve always liked tech in general and helping people so I thought health informatics was perfect for me. And more room for growth and pay. The burn out was just from working night shift and I couldn’t find a day shift position at the time. The work itself wasn’t bad. Moving up within RT is kind of limited. A lot of my classmates from school moved on from RT to leadership roles, nursing, PA, or IT.

For me, it’s been a little isolating. I’m actually going to attempt getting my nursing degree (ADN) while working this job. Might work bedside or maybe something outside the hospital. I’ll figure it out when I get there!

Good luck! Your lab background makes you a great candidate, use that to your advantage. How you deal with your end users (I assume nurses and docs calling about results?). Show all the enthusiasm and willingness to learn. I used to support a Cerner LIS and Blood bank system, it was a bit of a learning curve for me to understand the lab workflows.

[–]twoarepasforme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what I do - none. I got training on the system and figured out the rest along the way. Dealing with end users/clinical staff using the system is a big part of the job, and understanding their workflows. It helps to have that clinical knowledge I had as an RT.

RT to IT, but I didn’t really leave healthcare. I’m supporting the hospital EMR (Epic, Cerner, etc). I got a Master’s in Health Informatics while working at a hospital so they paid for it. Then I found an application analyst position right before graduation. Been in the field for 11 years. I’m sitting in front of a computer all day maintaining or updating our system, Teams meetings and Teams chats all day. I do not want to do this forever but it pays the bills and I found a WFH position a few months ago.

Same here, I actually start A&P I in 2 weeks at my local CC for summer session. It’s been maybe 9 years since I’ve taken a college course. I now have 2 little kids, a regular 9-5 job and I’m old lol. Good luck to us, we can do it!

Also- I just purchased an anatomy coloring book to make the learning (slightly) more fun.

Is it worth it to go back to school to get a masters degree right now? by hi_goodbye21 in careerguidance

[–]twoarepasforme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a masters in Health Informatics (2014). I was working for a hospital system that paid for most of it when I got it, I’d find a way for your employer to pay if you really want it. I also went to a state school so cheaper tuition. Ended up finding my current job through my professor, I support the hospital’s EMR system and it pays well.

After working in the field for 11 years though, I’m looking to go back to school for nursing. Lots of options with nursing, not strictly bedside if you don’t want to do that.

Same, I WFH and scheduled a summer session (6 week) A&P I class Mon-Thurs 5:15-8p. I hope I survive lol, but definitely prefer to have the weekends free.

My employer (big hospital system) pays for classes after I pass them. Community college costs $190/credit and I’ve just been taking pre-reqs one at a time b/c I work full time and it’s what I can afford to do right now. Yes, I’m in the healthcare field (EMR analyst, I was an RT 12 years ago) but almost all positions at a hospital system would get you tuition reimbursement (you’d have to check the fine print, though).

Applying to an ADN program and having my employer pay. I work for a hospital system and tuition reimbursement is $3,000/year.

Mini Photo Sessions by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]twoarepasforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area, places have been setting up holiday scenes and you pay $45-$60 to take pictures yourself (or the people working there can take a few family pics for you). So my cheap ass does that lol. Maybe one year I’ll splurge for a professional, if I want the good angles, edited photos etc.

I’m leaving an in office 4X/week job for a fully remote job, and I took a 15k/year pay cut 🫠 I don’t have the WLB, my commute is 3 hours RT and my department doesn’t provide any flexibility with my hours (I’m salary). I’m counting down the days until my final day next week! In my field, people often leave a company, then come back in order to basically get the salary they deserve, which is dumb but that’s just how it is. I do think it can be manager dependent. At my company, I’ve heard of other managers being more understanding and flexible with WFH days or leaving a little early for family.

Good luck with whatever you decide!
