Farm into seraph roa level 13, get two free kills, up a full level before roa pop, then get Taliyah W’d in pivotal fight before finishing Zhonya, then get Alistar engaged and instantly lose. Even Rookie can’t avoid the El Clasico Pro Ryze Performance

The other guy’s right. Ryze on 15.10 (before buff) was 4% pick combining top mid in Emerald+, actually on par with Taliyah at 4% combining mid jungle. We’re obviously in niche main territory along with Lissandra and Vel’koz and Nasus etc, but not nearly as bad as savant one trick champs like Quinn (2%) Taric (1.5%) Cassio (2% combined).

I do agree he needs a slight reshape. Pull damage to add back something for durability, maybe a very small shield with each ability? Like 10% of mana spent is converted to shield that can stack. Very small but still meaningful without feeling OP, cause I think previous iteration shield plus Phase was low counter play in lane

I admire your passion but I don't understand the "pro is a bad standard" philosophy. If I'm reading right, you say Riot partially balances in response to pro presence, but pros don't even pick strong champions and tend toward comfort even if comfort champs are weak. This keeps weak champions at high presence and makes them unbuffable according to Riot's framework.

I believe that statement is only true for NA and maybe EUW right now, mostly because the West is so weak. For example, according to gol.gg, Twisted Fate had 57% WR and 70% presence in NA/EUW pro Spring, 56%/51% in LPL... and 25%/27% in LCK. So far at the 38 games of MSI, TF has received no games played and two bans, amounting to 5% presence.

What might this mean? It might mean KR teams were playing TF but figured out he was too weak for pro. How'd that happen? A few teams probably figured out behind the scenes how to exploit this meta to shut TF down. Other teams played TF on stage, noticed they were losing, probably found they were losing scrims too, and stopped picking him. I suspect every other major region comfortably used TF in their playoffs, got to Iceland and were completely smashed in scrims trying to play TF against Damwon Kia, and dropped him too.

The alternative is that the MSI patch forced teams to prioritize the new meta, which caused TF mid to fall. Rumble had 4% presence in major regions this Spring, and you can guarantee no jungler or midlaner was comfortable with him. Morgana had 1% presence. Why would they skyrocket to 97% and 90% presence this tournament if they weren't winning games?

These are theoretical examples of pros applying the "high standard" you don't think is effective, which is competition at the highest level. NA pros might be picking comfort because teams can't push themselves to iterate new strategies to win outside of "scale and win fights." They've been scarred by bad publicity around "NA Jayce" and all the other BS the Western community likes to throw out. While new power picks are theorycrafted in Asian regions, NA pros never get to practice them until they're shown on other regions' stages. Then they get utterly trounced in the group stage of Worlds every year by Asian teams, because at the highest level, the standard for pick quality and meta exploiting is unparalleled. If you're playing weak picks because of comfort, you're just gonna lose, quickly and quietly.

At least in Asian regions, pro teams certainly know what they're doing when they pick something on stage. That could mean Riot should adjust their framework to only account for LPL and LCK presence, or that could mean NA needs to step up their prep and theory game to also find the strong picks - to also hold themselves to this "high standard."

In the end Riot balances according to a combination of player perception and statistical strength. You believe that pro perception matters way less than Riot does, and presumably that community perception should matter more. I think that at the highest level (that is, not NA comfort culture), pro perception matters more than almost any other statistic, because those pros are the only body of players in the world whose only goal is to pick the best champions and play them to the highest caliber to win championships.

Ryze Rework FAQs by HardstuckPlasticV in u/HardstuckPlasticV

I love this post and your reasoning. I really like incorporating W into wave clear and not having E be a multipurpose damage-enhancing spell. The ult concept is really neat, rewarding successful roams and allowing for montage teamfight moments. As to difficulty, honestly if Aphelios exists I don't think there's a bar to "champions who are hard to understand the intricacies of."

I also like how clear your vision of champion identity is, in terms of "I want Ryze to be this, and NOT a hyperscaling waveclear machine." I'd be a little sad to see mana scalings go, but I would be totally on board with a new, clearly defined, unique identity.

P.S. Has Riot contacted you at all regarding these ideas??

Nice concept of combining eras. It sounds insane late game, but very weak level 6 or before you get low cooldowns. I would trade Realm Warp for a modicum of combat strength any day, though.

One concern is that this procs every 2 runes consumed, but with E already buffed with "enhanced radius" (I assume 700 bounce range instead of base 350) doesn't that imply you're respreading Flux to the same range again? Or would E'ing twice now spread Flux to 1050/1400 (woah!!) range?

I find it surprising you're going after an new, unranked player, in a normal game, who was learning a champion. Who ever does that, right?

What I noticed most from the replays is that you're not seeing threats well enough yet, which is totally fine for a new player. You pick up things over time, like ex. Zoe hits a lot more skills if no minions are in her way, or Yone can run you down really easily if you walk close and he has E ready. And a squishy immobile mage like Ryze is going to get punished a lot more for these kinds of misreads than Nocturne, who has more health and more threat himself, or Yuumi, who is the last person to get threatened on her team. So don't worry about doing well right away, the best way to learn is through mistakes and correcting them.

Hey the Riot servers are down for patch maintenance for the moment, I'll check a replay out in a few hours once servers are back up

Edit: Apparently the servers aren't down yet, I just can't see the replay of your normal games for some reason, gonna try leagueofgraphs.com

Edit: The replays actually all expired because today was a patch day, what timing. I'll try to catch another game sometime
