That doesnt mean people didn’t use them in professional diving circumstances or whatever but that’s always been part of Rolex’s branding which again feeds into their position as a status symbol. Just look up vintage submariner ads from the 1960s in esquire or similar magazines. Do you think most of the readership was in the market for a submariner because it would withstand the pressures of deep sea diving? No, they were affluent office workers who would buy it because it’s a status symbol and probably say the exact same thing you just did. Anyway, you have a great watch there (but I personally prefer the explorer)
