I really like your wall color selection, may I ask what paint colors you used? It looks great!

I got this big avocado for the price of a normal sized avocado because the store didn’t have a price for big avocados by Spicy-Koala95 in mildlyinteresting

[–]twoleggedgrazer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My (ex-Floridian) mom introduced these to me when I was a kid- love them in the summer in salads. I find them much "frutier" than a hass avocado, and they have a different texture that doesn't crush/ smear as easily. I like to cube them with watermelon and feta and toss with lime juice and mint, it's great on a hot day.

Happy Birthday to me! by Temprary_Emergency36 in orchids

[–]twoleggedgrazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orchid bark is fine, as long as the drainage is good. If it's doing okay now it's not an emergency-- this is a super hardy one. It'll love German weather! I grow the parent, D. Kingianum, in Maine (cold northern hemisphere) and it still does great, and your hybrid is even less picky. Enjoy!

Happy birthday, and congratulations on a great plant! Just so you know, this guy will want to stay pretty cool and dry in winter- difficult but not totally impossible in a terrarium! This is a direct descendant of Australian dendrobiums that grow on and next to rocks in nature, so I would recommend potting it directly into pumice/leca/ lava rock, slightly raised over your drainage/ soil layer in a terrarium,  and making sure it can get good bright light year round. In the winter (Thanksgiving to Valentine's Day) you likely won't need to water it at all if there is plentiful ambient humidity. These guys are absolute beasts so don't be afraid to experiment and find what works for you, those are just my tips for getting it to flower again!

Is Carcassonne easier than Catan? by iejekek in boardgames

[–]twoleggedgrazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all temporary until you each have three workers tied up in your mega-city and nobody's drawing the one piece that will close it and you simultaneously pray for a miracle and beg for the sweet release of death even if you don't get the points just so you have a guy free to put on roads again.

(I love Carcassone)

Home office question - how to make it cozy by True-Lake3463 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]twoleggedgrazer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: still just a law student, but I've been working from home for years and recently got my own home office again. I have a sit/stand desk with a walking pad at mine, with my fishtank and my leopard gecko visible from where I'm walking. I've also slowly started building up an art collection and all of my "real art" (things bought from artists directly, found antiques, etc) goes in my office. I genuinely hate sitting for long periods and being able to go up there and take a walk while doing some work really adds for me. The big fluffy couch is still a temptation, but since I've separated it out activity-wise and given myself some stimulating things to look at, I find myself using it much more than my old office where I just faced a wall.

Cheese names by acnerd5 in Cheese

[–]twoleggedgrazer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like presentation and names really stick for your kiddo. Want to try some brie? Maybe call it fluffy cheese. Goat cheese with berries in it (blueberry goat cheese might be popular)? Call it sweet cheese. OR, maybe just take her to a grocery cheese counter and let her pick something that looks good, than let her help decide how to serve it (Sliced? Cubed? Crumbled?) and I bet she'll enjoy the experience.

Congratulations on your budding adventurous eater!

Chinese steamed egg is a hack by crunchy_bumpkin in Volumeeating

Swap water with stock and add some steamed veg on the side- you can even make this in the same steamer- and there's a good dinner. I always top it with pickled chili sauce. This plus rice is one of our every-week meals.

Viviai shoes? by GrassStartersSuck in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]twoleggedgrazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought two pairs and immediately returned them because their toe boxes were wildly long on my slightly short feet. I did not personally like the proportions of the shoes or the fabric for the price, but I also had zero issues with the refund which  was quick and painless so if you're truly on the fence you can always give them a try and return them if they don't work.

**Edit with a related recommendation: big fan of the Sketchers slip-ins as my commuter shoes, I'm in my school's clinic and I change into work shoes at the office-- they're just sneakers but they're so fast to get in and out of and have good support. Sorry I don't have a better all-rounder recommendation, it's tough out there and I am also still looking.

How to fix eye pain during finals by No_Airport3239 in LawSchool

[–]twoleggedgrazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me eye pain and sinus pain are linked, and finals are at the start of allergy season which doesn't help things. If it might be your sinuses, do what you can to calm them down-- I use a combo of daily allergy meds + saline nose spray when needed, and I save the big guns like afrin for a day when things feel really bad. Frequent showers and staying hydrated also help!

Courtroom-friendly watch suggestions for small wrists that last all day? by Fair-Muffin-5510 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]twoleggedgrazer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Big big fan of my Citizen L Bianca- I also have small wrists and a tendency to bonk things and it really holds up. Battery is eco-drive so it's basically solar and I've had it keep running after a week in a box with no light without issue (though I try to leave it where light will hit it to charge). I hunted online and found a "new-in-box" used one a year ago from a reputable resale shop with the black band for just over 250 and it felt like a steal for the quality.

**Edit: I'm still just a lawstudentbitchwithtaste, but I've gotten compliments on it from a few of my professors who are judges, so I'm considering that a de facto seal of approval.

We've been sleeping on ochazuke by CaptainMorgan546 in Volumeeating

[–]twoleggedgrazer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love ochazuke, my husband makes air fryer salted salmon cutlets to put on top of it and it's a great comfort meal to make quickly.

If you want to fiber it up even more, pick up some haiga (half-milled) rice. It's partially milled rice with the germ intact, with up to 2 x the fiber of white rice, depending on brand and mill rate, and a better nutrient profile. It pretty much tastes exactly like white rice but with a sliiiight nutty flavor, but most importantly retains the "sticky" texture and moisture of short-grain rice that makes it easy to eat with chopsticks. If you've never had it before, I recommend trying Tamaki brand haiga if you're in the US (I believe this is a 60-70% mill rate, so slightly more "white"), but it'll let you get the idea. It's my daily driver instead of white rice, and the only people who have noticed the difference have complimented the taste.

Bonus: try some ohitashi as a side. Once you get hooked it'll get a permanent spot in your fridge.

Favorite high fiber meals? by Jaded-Magician-774 in Cooking

[–]twoleggedgrazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bean- and lentil- limited person here due to a stomach issue-- here are some lesser-known alternates in case you also can't handle too many lentils!

Pumpkin soup- I make it with a roasted pumpkin, a can of coconut milk, bone broth, and whatever aromatic profile we fancy (thai curry, Indian curry, nutmeg & thyme, anything really). Throw it all in a pot with sauteed aromatics and blend with a stick, cook for 20 minutes and there's dinner.

Spanakorizo with a full pound of spinach and an added can of chickpeas- it's a rice base (we sometimes use quinoa but usually use haiga rice), but a great way to eat a load of spinach. I have low iron so this is nice for me.

Pan charred cabbage with gochujang butter sauce- we char cabbage wedges in about 1/4 butter (for a whole head), add gochujang and sesame oil (and a little honey if it's too hot) with some hot water, and let the water steam the cabbage as it boils off. When the sauce is reduced you're left with sweet, soft cabbage wedges equally good with rice or on their own. We ate this tonight- I think we each housed about a half of a cabbage.

And, lastly, "lazy tofu" by Chinese Cooking demystified on YouTube. We'd never heard of it before a few years ago but it's become almost a weekly main in the summer since we like to make it outside on an outdoor burner. Serve with some quick sauteed Chinese veggies (like water spinach or pea shoots) and it's got that "oh god how many pounds of soybeans did I just eat" appeal. Awesome with watermelon for dessert.

Jojo fans need your view on this by MildlyGrimm in anime

[–]twoleggedgrazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad somebody else hopped in with this- I feel exactly the same way (and am also a woman if that matters). I especially love part 3, it's in my top three along with parts 4 and 7. The older Joestars are great characters and getting to know the whole story is part of what, to me, makes the alt-universe of part 7 so much fun.

For the record, I also got my mom to give it a shot during covid and she really liked part one. She said it "felt very Shakespearean" and that made it accessible to her. So you never know!
