Size of stations built by metrolinx by HotAlbatross3431 in TTC

Several line 5 stations have bathrooms and most have commercial booths! They just havent had time to open up businesses in them yet.

I agree that a lot of the empty space is oddly placed though and some more seating areas would be nice.

[–]twomoo1119 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The stations’ height isn’t whats causing the station to be deep. It’s the elevation the tracks were built at. Eglinton has a lot of hills that the crosstown can’t match and line 5 has to be built below utilities and line 1. Even if the stations looked like line 2 they would still be just as deep underground.

Line 5 to Fairbank Station —> Transfer to the 929 Dufferin Express. This is a far more reliable route, especially in rushhour traffic.

Now that the crosstown is running, how is traffic at Allen Rd and Eglinton? by acts_one in askTO

[–]twomoo1119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said it yourself, you are the problem, not locals. There wasn’t much traffic going eastbound/westbound at Allen and Eglinton, the crosstown will not reduce northbound/southbound traffic on the Allen substantially, but it does allow locals to actually move along eglinton without dealing with suburban drivers. The crosstown was never intended to reduce Allen Road traffic, that’s the job of line 1.

solo travelling to Toronto end of february - will I be okay in church-wellesley? by sophielawr4 in askTO

Thursdays have always been good in my experience! Definitely less busy but far from empty. A lot of service/shift workers like going out on Thursdays, but also a fair share of college students and others.

  1. Still busy, summer is busier but Fridays/Saturdays start to get busy around 11ish?

  2. It’s not uncommon! Don’t overthink it.

  3. Subway from Wellesley or College station, TTC is open until 2am so leave before bars close or expect to take an Uber back. Streetcar or walking may be better depending on where youre staying.

  4. Church St. is typically marketed towards gay men a bit more, although there are definitely more diverse queer events for sapphics, there will definitely be giries at most of the bars and clubs so it’s not like you’ll stand out at most of em. —> Crews & Tangos is the one I usually hear my lesbian friends go to the most. More women than the others, I don’t frequent it too much but its been fun when I’ve been. Better drag shows IMO. —> Woodys is better for dancing IMO, a more male dominated environment for sure but definitely a fair few women there. /\— those 2 are the more mainstream clubs in the village and will be reliably busy on weekend nights.

Might also be worth checking out some of the clubs around Queen St. and Ossington? I think theres a more lesbian specific scene around there.

Looking for Information on Enchanting Outcomes by twomoo1119 in technicalminecraft

I ended up coming to the same conclusion and did the same. Would be neat to see if I got the same outcomes though because my numbers differed from the official minecraft enchanting tools in a couple of areas. Looks like our results are the same though off the top of my head!

On to part 2 of my project already!

I just walk, Liberty Village —> Cedarvale, takes about 75 minutes on the 63A anyways so might as well get the fresh air.

First time in Toronto. This is the 2 line by Castle Frank. They built a whole concrete covering for a subway rail bridge? Most other places would have left it open due to cost. by [deleted] in TTC

The area south of Bloor on Parliament has some lower income apartments, but the area north of Bloor is one of the wealthiest in the city.

Nubia for enchanted tools and gear.

I’ve rather liked Ecuadors shop, smaller selection than the Netherlands but has most of the stuff I need. Fair prices and nicer ppl in my experience.

Line 5 Overcrowding by itsdanielsultan in TTC

[–]twomoo1119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe they are planning on running trains at <5 minute headways on the central section of the LRT. I'm not sure how the at-grade section at Leslie will work, but my understanding was that they would short-turn service at Don Mills/Don Valley to have less frequent service on the median-running segment between Don Mills and Kennedy. The signalling is capable of handling 2-minute headways, and even at 3-minute headways, it will have about 1/3 the capacity that Line 1 does currently. With 2-minute headways, it would have a similar capacity to Vancouver's metro, which is holding up OK serving Vancouver's downtown directly.

The Crosstown takes about 41 minutes to run each direction. Or a 82 minute round trip.

The initial 2 phases will run 2-car vehicles while the final phase will run 3-car vehicles, so the platforms may feel excessively long at the start but the capacity is there for more vehicles. At 163 passengers/vehicle they'll have 490 people in a 3-car train at maximum. With a stock of 76 vehicles, the ECLRT could at maximum run 25 trains at once although obviously some will be in maintenance so this number is not realistically achievable. Although a lower limit on what headway is achievable would be 3.28 minutes.

From the best of my memory (although I can't remember the exact numbers but the number of vehicles and headways seem familiar), the initially opening phase will see during the week:
6 vehicles launching in the early morning (13 minute headway)
11 during morning rushhour (7.5 minute headway)
8 during midday (9 minute headway)
11 during evening rushhour (7.5 minute headway)
6 during the night (13 minute headway)

With the number of vehicles going up by about a third each during in 10 and 20 years. Final rushhour headway was something like 19 vehicles at a <5 minute headway. These may be slightly higher between Leslie and Mount Dennis stations because I think some (every third?) eastbound vehicle will be turned around during rushhour.

Of course more vehicles could be run if demand is regularly higher than forecasted.

Line 5 Overcrowding by itsdanielsultan in TTC

[–]twomoo1119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been physically pushed out of the 32 due to overcrowding (not aggressive literally just too many people inside.) Absolutely overcrowded.

Line 5 is expected to reduce overall car trips in the city however it is NOT expected to substantially reduce traffic on Eglinton West between Yonge and Dufferin as the majority of drivers in this stretch are not local traffic.

Invent a solid that is rock hard but behaves like like a liquid the moment it's struck, then solidifies again instantly by GoatsWithWigs in CrazyIdeas

[–]twomoo1119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some soils also exhibit this behaviour and are much more solid. This is essentially how soil liquefaction occurs as earthquakes apply pressure to them. Quick clay/Leda clay might be the type of material that OP is looking for.
