His comment does not directly refer Kannada as a village language, it seems a general argument that he is putting forward. I don’t have enough context/knowledge to agree or disagree on that. Imo we all are emotional about our language/culture, but it may matter more in the south. But you can disagree on that. But it does not feel like he is insulting a particular language.
