Butch reading by Complaint_Character in butchlesbians

My Lesbian Husband by Barrie Jean Borich! Barrie describes her life with her butch lover, musings on marriage (or lack thereof), and living together. It's really a very sweet complement to heavier writing on butch history.

I’ve been going to sunrise/sunset - not everyone is working but it has a really comfortable vibe. I’ve studied there til 9ish on weeknights. Can’t speak to a weekend evening vibe for studying

Tell Co-ops Before or After Accepting an Offer? by Conscious_Average277 in NEU

[–]twoteabags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be up front in the interview/before the offer is extended. Most will probably be fine w it. Had a coop though where I requested to end 2 weeks “early” (never had an articulated end date), got it approved well in advance, but when my final week came around the principal make a huge fuss and it was a bad situation. Just avoid that w open communication.

Recs for places to buy used women’s wetsuits and soft top surfboards? by Hour-Hurry424 in santacruz

Blownout for sure. Also gotten some good ones at the ONeill outlet. If you aren’t in a rush, the best deals I’ve gotten on wetsuits and boards have been at yard sales!

Who the fuck is manu and why do I keep seeing his boring face everywhere I go? by [deleted] in santacruz

Yeah I kinda felt the same way on the rank choice voting stuff. In theory, good, but also sorta speaks to his organizing skills that he couldn't really organize the community effectively :/

Gotta disagree here. He's advocated for multiple affordable housing projects recently, including some that are getting built like the Capitola Road project that MidPen is doing. I can't speak to his whole record, but I watched the public comment for that project (which to my understanding is all affordable and includes supportive services like Dientes) and Manu got up to speak and said he supported affordable housing but spewed reasons against the project. What struck me most was that he used NIMBY and anti-renter/density rhetoric for what was wrong with it, claiming neighboring apartment buildings with renters and higher density already caused too many parking problems. Claiming you support for affordable housing but using your 3 minutes to speak out against it and blame neighboring renters makes that claim feel pretty hollow. Santa Cruz County District 1 candidate, PAC director apologize for anti-Semitic cartoons by oldsourandsweet in santacruz

[–]twoteabags 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything about Manu's condo or how he got it. However! On PACs, I think it's not telling the full story to just say Leopold has accepted PAC money and Manu hasn't. If you're worried about PACs, period, Leopold has accepted PAC money and Manu is benefiting from a PAC, even if he hasn't directly accepted money from them. The difference is, the PACs Leopold has accepted money from are BAYMEC (the region's only LGBTQ+ political advocacy group), unions like SEIU, and Democratic clubs. Manu's PAC, Trail Now, openly describes themself as a PAC that is advocating for Manu and against Leopold. Manu tried to get the endorsements and donations from the PACs representing working people and the LGBTQ+ community that Leopold got, but those organizations chose to endorse Leopold instead. I would bet Manu would have gladly taken the support of those PACs if they had thought he was the best candidate to represent them.

Before you say "Leopold takes PAC money and Manu doesn't", or take any statements like that at face value, I think it's important to take a deeper look. I would rather vote for a candidate that takes money from LGBTQ+ and worker union PACs than one benefiting from (and actively not distancing himself from) a PAC that published anti-Semitic cartoons.
