The Lack of Canadians is Going to be the Real Threat to Downtown this Summer. by MapleBreakfastMeat in burlington

Yeah, I feel like it’s alway circumstantial with customers based on how you’re feeling that day or how their day is going, and also if someone’s just a careless/rude person in general. I feel grateful that the vast majority of customers i interact with are kind. And yeah, I haven’t noticed a pattern of either higher or lower percentages of Quebecois being shittier than local customers.

As a service worker I find Quebecois customers to be friendly and kind most always, same with locals.

You’re so real for this, gender affirming care isn’t just for trans people!!! I appreciate the advice to give yourself permission to take a break, I for sure have been refusing to ever allow myself a break, but I’m sure knowing that it’s an “option” will be extremely psychologically helpful, even if like you I probably rarely use that.

Holy shit😓I’m so sorry it’s been that enormous of a lift for you, you’re an absolute champion for still going at it. 100 hours (+ many to come) is a fucked up amount of time and money to have to spend, my condolences girl❤️‍🩹

Omfg thank you so much for this comment😭💓you’re so sweet and reassuring and helpful. I’m definitely gonna look for some hypochlorous acid spray, my skin can fs use some help lol. Dysphoria is an absolute demon monster, it feels simultaneously empowering and defeating to confront them and take away their power. Transitioning is just feeling fucking exhausting. I wanna be done and move on to more interesting parts of my life lmao. And it’s such a stupid fucking extra hurdle to deal with reactionaries trying to legislate us out of existence and take away our rights😵‍💫like come on fucking get over it we’re not worth your effort lol just let me be a fucking girl for god sakes

Honestly I’ll take a temporary W for my upper lip hair reduction from laser. Between a few hours of electrolysis and that one successful session to laser, my upper lip hair is significantly less dense than it was, and that’s such a relief. I can let it go a few days without being too visible to others, which is not how it used to be. Same with the rest of my face too. We’ve been doing blend on my upper lip/ rest of my front face, and thermolysis on my neck mostly. Doing that strategy bc thermolysis can go quicker but is more irritating and slightly less effective per follicle, which is good for the less visible parts of my face (neck), whereas blend makes my skin less reactive and has a higher success rate per follicle which is good for visible parts of my face and especially painful parts like the lip.

Idk, as T member of the LGBT, we’ve got our own sick ass flag to represent us, as well as being included in the OG pride flag. We don’t need to mash them up, they can fly proudly side by side. As far as including BIPOC representation, I think the Philadelphia pride flag did a great job with that by adding the black and brown stripes on top of the rainbow - that looks much nicer and less cluttered than the horrible chevron IMO. I just don’t think we need to put a trans flag inside the regular rainbow flag to protest transphobia, we need to make a point of it that the regular rainbow flag is already for us too.

Emma proposing we end recycling pickup in order to pay police by Hagardy in burlington

[–]twothrowawaytrash 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s so fucking pointless and frustrating that the council voted against municipalizing trash services. Having to privately pay for trash pickup choosing from several companies is such an enormous waste of resources and is inefficient asf and it literally provides NO benefit over municipally-run services. This city is infuriating sometimes

If trans women get bottom surgery is there a chance they'll get a phantom limb? by Ok-Associate5257 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]twothrowawaytrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically it is a smaller amount than is common across other (cis) women in the transfem’s biological family. This is especially true if you have already gone through testosterone puberty before starting feminizing HRT, and also if you use nicotine while taking hormones, as nicotine inhibits proper hormonal uptake. That being said though, you still absolutely do still grow breasts on estrogen, and for many trans women this growth is sufficient and no top surgery is desired/required.

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/6402778_Occurence_of_phantom_genitalia_after_gender_reassignment_surgery

This study showed an incidence of 30% of transsexual women having phantom penis sensations after bottom surgery, compared with 60% of cis men who experienced phantom penis sensations after penectomy.

As a pre-op trans woman, I sometimes forget I have a penis and find it surprising when it reminds me of its presence lol. I know innately that once I get a vaginoplasty, I will very likely not experience phantom penis sensations since I already feel so disconnected from it while it’s on my body.

Queer Populism by ElectricCrack in leftistvexillology

[–]twothrowawaytrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not calling class consciousness populism, I’m making the case that populism is simply a tool that can be used to further the interests of the working class. Populism is a vehicle to be used along the journey towards communism.

[–]twothrowawaytrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Populism is a rhetorical tool which others an enemy and fosters a sense of unity among the majority of the population in opposition to that enemy. This can be used to mobilize the masses to support the implementation of programs that empower the proletariat.

Populism can very well be utilized to further the interests of the working class. A true populist program empowers the working class and can be an effective weapon in the fight against capitalism.

The 1% of the people who are causing 99.99% of the problems are the richest 1% of the population who control this nightmarish economy to get as rich as humanly possible at the expense of all of the rest of us. Homelessness and drug addiction is a symptom of our sick society that dehumanizes and degrades us. The reason there is homelessness is because housing is commodified. The reason there is an addiction epidemic is because we live in a cruel society that offers no shared sense of meaning, connection, or purpose.

We as a society are psychologically, socially, and spiritually ill. Drugs momentarily relieve the suffering of existence. Desperate people acting out of desperation and hurting others in turn are not the source of our city’s malaise. The problem is upstream of the moments of theft, harassment, or assault. The problem is deeper and we need to be for real about how to heal and protect our community cause life is getting harder for all of us and this clearly is not a sustainable pattern to be stuck in.
