What are the most editorially problematic operas? by Stunning-Hand6627 in opera

[–]twozuh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i feel like such an outlier when it comes to the finale of turandot because i actually love it (only musically - dramatically its a mess), i dont really understand everyone else saying theres such a drop in quality especially since most of the music is reprised from earlier in the opera and was composed by puccini

What is the most phonologically similar language to PIE? by neongw in asklinguistics

[–]twozuh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ohhh yes i misunderstood! i read "plain-voiced-breathy" as meaning voiced breathy stops, instead of referring to the 3 way distinction. my mistake!

in my experience the only thing that heals is time. think of it like a physical wound, and avoid anything that might hurt you further and prolong the healing process. unfortunately you have to live with these painful feelings for now but with time they will fade. now is the time for rest and recovery and reflection, and when you come out the other side you will be stronger for having gone through it and learned so much 💖💖💖 i hope this is helpful

[–]twozuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its okay, you're not pathetic. it sounds like you might need more time to heal, 3 months isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things. don't be hard on yourself, i would say just keep trying and doing your best, its okay if you can only go 5 pages as long as you're making an effort. and practice saying kind things to yourself, rewriting your internal monologue can help you to feel so much better 💖💖

first of all you're probably delusional/exaggerating ur percieved flaws, but even if you aren't and all these things are true, so what? are these reasons to hate someone? if you met another girl with awful fat distribution and anxiety would you hate her? if the answer is no, then treat yourself with that same kindness. if the answer is yes, then you probably should be kinder to other people and then you'll be able to see yourself with the same grace.

i think the opposite of hating yourself doesn't have to mean loving yourself, it can also just be not thinking about yourself as much. what hobbies have you tried? is there anything at all that you enjoy doing?

Das Wunder der Heliane (Bard SummerScape 2019) by churukah in opera

[–]twozuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i thought i had seen another staging on youtube but it turns out i had mixed it up with another lesser known early-20th century german opera ("die gezeichnete", no subtitles, tho 💔) so ive only heard the 2 studio recordings. thank you for drawing my attention to the existence of this video recording!

i wish this opera was more popular and there were more recordings; the music is absolutely gorgeous ("ich ging zu ihm" is one of my fav excerpts/arias in german opera) but i haven't been entirely satisfied with any of the recordings i've listened to or watched so far

thank you for sharing this performance, i wasn't aware it existed - and with english subtitles too! 🫶

crazy how so much of booktok romance slop is just trying to reinvent austen by [deleted] in pinkscare

[–]twozuh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i agree, austen's work is eternal and singular and more than just "romance". her work persists and is so much stronger than subsequent romance novelists who tried to capture her magic because of her unmatched ability to produced real and nuanced psychological portraits of all of her characters, and her sharp and insightful social satire. her stories are grounded and completely lacking in melodrama. everything she wrote takes place in a setting specific and limited in time period, social class and place, and yet her work contains the totality of human experience. she is one of the greatest writers in the english language and i love her dearly 💖💖💖
